Kingship tradition is different from tribe to tribe. Some are hereditary. Only the son of a late king becomes a king while in some kingdoms only certain families are entitled to nominate people for kingship. The kingmakers then select the suitable among the nominees to become the king.

When analyzing Nigeria tradition try and limit it to a tribe because tribes operate differently. In my tribe the Izons (Ijaws) women inherit land and fathers property but majority of Nigerian tribes don't allow women to inherit property particularly the Igbos, women have no say. I know they will come after me for saying this. The Yoruba and Ijaw tribes are more friendly to women than majority of other Nigerian tribes. The Ijaws also don't placed priority on male child but most other tribes a male child is like a must to inherit property.

He was trying to say ethnic groups. HAUSA, YORUBA, IGBO, Ijaw, Kanuri, Ibibio, Tiv people etc are all major ethnic groups, totalling about 250...while we have many tribes which some of them fall under these ethnic groups. For example the Awori's, Ijebu, Owo, Egba etc are tribes under the Yoruba ethnicity. Nigeria also have about 512 languages and the total population of Nigeria is over 215 million people as at 2024 estimate.

Your guest is not too good with Nigerian history, population and tribes. No tribe is under any. From available research Nigeria has 375 distinct tribes and languages. The Yorubas,Hausas, Igbos are said be having more population that has also contributed to high level of tribalism mostly from this tribes wanting to dominate the others in politics and economy to the detriment of the tribes they call minority. In Nigeria a tribe of 3 or 4 million people is termed as minority is the population of some African or European countries. Are you aware that 70% of the major natural resource of Nigeria, oil and gas is produced by the minority tribes located in South South or the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. This so called big tribes produces less than 30% of Nigerian crude oil but they dominate the sector. My tribe don't practice naming ceremony as a tradition. We don't also refund bride price. That practice of women covering Thier head is never practice in any other part of Nigeria. I am shocked to hear such practice as a Nigerian.

This person you are interviewing dies not know anything. Instead of asking questions from him look for a better talking man this looks more like an literate. What is the population he is talking nonsense. The population of Nigeria is about 209million and about 250 tribes and 3 major. His view is not even representative of Yoruba tradition.
