Thank you for speaking the truth I wish every African people can speak like you with no bias. I am shocked by many Nigerians attacking South African and the Grammy winner Tyla because they won a soccer match again South Africa. My Brother keep on speaking the truth.

Most Nigerians mentality towards music is biased. I'm a Nigerian and i don't only explore Afrobeats but i explore other genres like rnb, ambience, soul, rap, pop, rock, metal, jazz, electro etc. I don't base my music on streams and charts. I base it on rating communities and my own intuition. So when Shakti album won it ahead of Davido and Burna album, instead of castigating Shakti, i went to listen to the album and it's actual good even though I didn't understand the language but the production and jazz was top notch. But how many Nigerians listen to jazz?? They believe it has to be the trending genre.

That is not a recipe for success. Dangote is a businessman . Soccer is not charity. As Nigerians we should be responsible for creating our own league . Where is the Nigerian league that Abiola created ? Probably died with him . We infantilize ourselves when we seek alms to build our nation . All hands must be on deck .

Same thing I said, we are ‘guest’! This is an American award so why are we so thirsty and hungry over a foreign award just because it’s the biggest award. Why can’t we just create our own Africa’s biggest award platform. We even went to the extent of taking Headies over there. Cmon why are we like this? Who did this to us???

Burna boy’s nominated song had no Amapiano on it, neither did Rush by Ayra Star. This was a deliberate act by the Grammys to undermine Nigerian (Afrobeats) music.

What about last year? They used a relatively unknown song called Bayethe by Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode to win against Burnaboy’s Last Last. Then they said it is all about originality or whatever, no it’s what? Grammys has an agenda to rubbish out type of music, they just are trying to discourage our music and artists.

Seun, when a cultural product like music is co-opted by external demographics, it is normal for the original owners to loose their minds. Especially, when that product has a cultural significance and meaning attached to it. For instance, R&B which emerged during the Great Emigration of black people in the US, during the early 20th century, would be commercialized by white proprietors, transiting from being so-called to Rock n roll. Then, magically, Elvis became the King of Rock n Roll. Rap was a platform for non.integrated (or uneducated blacks) to gain visibility. It went from being publicly downgraded to white commercialization, then voila, Eminem became the King of Rap. Reggae was a anti-imperialist genre championed by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and many greats. UB40 enters the stage, and suddenly the political undertone is sanitized. When Adele won her Grammy for Soul Music, many whiteys rejoiced that their own had finally been able to mimic Aretha Franklin & co. When we do it, dem no dey celebrate am like that o. So, the issue is the highhandedness and disrespect that the black creators and community receive from these appropriators. This happens when the creator(s) is(are) not controlling the narrative and the institutions. Even our so -called moguls like Diddy Love, Jayz, Babyface, LA Reid, etc, na boy-boy dem be o. That is why, like you said, black people should learn to create and glamorize their own musical reward system and institutions. And also desist from seeking white validation. As for your Papa, who wan give am award? Dem like truth? You know that the truth is called a lie, vice-versa! But the fact remains that despite being snobbed and denied of public accolades, Fela's compositions and messages remain timeless and relevant, forevermore. You cant say that for the award recipients of his era, do you even remember their names? Abeg, leave matter for Mathias!

You want Nigerian artist to use amapiano that originated from South Africa to win the person from South Africa? Abi you don't know all those songs nominated from Nigeria are all amapiano sound? E be like say make South Africans use Afrobeat sound to contest with our artist and expect to win naija artist. Think!

That's the point. It's their award and they give it to whoever they think deserves it based on their own perception of music. Afrobeats artistes should create their own awards and desist from awaiting validation from those who understand little about their arts.

The real legendary and signature sound water by fela was the part that got to me. What level of mockery was that... you could have used any other song but they had to send us back home to our ancestral root to ask us what we are going to do... o duuun mii oloun. I no say make tola abi na tyla no win buh why mock that particular category knowing fully well that 4 other Nigerians are on that category and an ancestral tune to the other 4 was being played to usher in Tyla... na utter disrespect. And on the whole taking it out on south africans that's us just being reactive... I mean so we'll take things out now or transfer aggression on our fellow blacks because of an award 😂.
