I don't think it's his continent. His continent is Europe. My continent is also nominally Europe, but it's Eastern Europe and it's another Europe altogether. I know very well how often my people also accept stupid Western prejudices as soon as they position themselves above their own people. And I love it when Serbians make fun of the flaws in their own mentality, whether it's bigotry OR superificial trendiness. It's all good as long as it's NOT based in the most of terrible prejudices. Even though I'm a white man, I'm from a "developing" country as well and I actually know how African people feel when they see crap like this. I kinda like some of the stuff Amos does, but this is pure, disgusting self-hatred.

For someone who was born to Nigerian parents, and who I believe should understand and know better, this is disappointing stuff coming from Stephen Kehinde Amos. I grew up watching the NTA Network News in Nigeria and never a time did it come across to me as something that should be made fun of in this manner (well, maybe except for the raised cardboard in the upper corner!). Granted he may not have written the script, I strongly believe he had some say in what went into it; He's a comedian for goodness' sake, and comedy, from my experience, is art imitating life. Virtually nothing about this skit imitated real life, and so find this somewhat distasteful and disrespectful.

Sometimes you happen to see something you don't like and you comment. You know, throw in a word. If you don't like her comment + don't have a specific argument against it, then you're the one who shouldn't read the comment. She has something specific to say about the thing she dislikes and she said it precisely. You're not arguing anything except that she should shut up and your argument is therefore much less constructive and relevant.

I love this guy, but unfortunately when you remove the accent (which is surely only 'amusing' to white middle England and not urbanites) the material is very low grade - Stephen, I beg you - please don't lose your edge and become the new Lenny Henry!!! We need you to unsettle suburbia, not reinforce their lazy sterotypes...
