Battabox presenters Odunayo and Kayode journey to Igbo Ora in Oyo state, where there are unusually large number of twin births in Nigeria, which have earned the town the nickname Twin Capital of the World.
"In every compound in Igbo Ora , you must find two to three sets of twins"
After paying homage to the King of the land and getting his permission to explore Igbo Ora , they set out on the second day of their journey with their tour guide who takes them to some of the households to talk to twin parents and some of the twins themselves, both young and old.
In Igbo-Ora, research has suggested that the multiple births could be related to the eating habits of the women in the region of the country.
"Its the food we eat that makes us have twins," says one mother of twins
But some people disagreed..
"I don't believe it, twins come from God.
Watch out for part 3 of this video where Odunayo would show you what Ilasa soup is made of and how to prepare it.

This video doesn't do the phenomenon enough justice. One of the things of the Yoruba that intrigues me is their huge amount of and Reverence for Twins. I know a lot of Yoruba twins both now and from my childhood. In my secondary school I had a mate who was a twin and had two other sets of twins as siblings. His mother had four sets of twins but of the last set only one survived. His mum is a heroine as far as I am concerned. These things are signs of a people blessed and favored by the most High. We need more awareness on this issue as it sheds light on the super natural natures of the African tribes and nations. Great post Batta Box and kip up the good work.

I'm from Benin Republic and i was born triplet ( 2 girls and 1 boy) but the boy didn't stay alive. Before us, my mother was pregnant of the same set of triplet but she lost them unfortunately. In my country twins are seen as deity and you must respect them if you don't want any problems. It's never good to make a twin angry haha... I hope i'll be having twins in my life !!!

Diane DNaturallady: It has to do with a king of food (vegetable soup) called Ilasa that they eat in fact the record shos that between 60% couples have twins and between 12% have triplets, some of the those interviewed in this video and another video confirmed that they are not originally from that town, even some couple that the doctors have confirmed that they infertile when they moved to that town within three years have their own twins or triplets.kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYCbmGBsmbWIrM0

Thank you Battabox for opening my eyes to this beautiful land of Igbo-Ora, a phenomenal community yet to be explained by the best of scientists. This is more proof to me that us Africans have so much locked away in our history as a people, treasure, which we must aim to seek at all times. Blessings to you all.

I don't understand why people uphold western knowledge so high - entrapped in the colonized mentality to believe everything western or euro-centric is the truth and the best. Yes genes can justify some of the explanations to why the amount of twins in that town is high - but we can't dispute the fact that what you put in your body could also be responsible. I believe this people can be right! i bet if there's a scientific report to prove that eating Ilasa could lead to one having twins, y'all would be believers. Because they are not academias y'all snub and discredit their facts or observations
@MoofyGaming
@MoofyGaming 6 жыл бұрын
What you consider "euro-centric" thinking is just pure logic. You can run a simple test by gathering a group of people from this place who do eat the soup and a group who don't eat the soup and over a large time period with a large enough group you plot every birth number and type on a graph. If the group who do eat the soup have twins at a significantly higher rate you have a case to say that the soup affects the birth rates of twins. Then if that is the case, the next logical step would be to find out what in the soup causes people to have twins. No one in the west would and should deny that the soup could play a part in making twins however it is just common practice to test to see if a claim you make is true or not. That helps you to learn more about the world. Personally I think the west is pretty good at scientific testing also because we openly encourage people to do their own scientific testing (actual scientific testing not just drawing links without evidence) that way there is less implicit bias. Why wouldn't that be better than blind faith and the unwant to find out more.

Melly Akinduro there is possibly some truth. The food could potentially have a high amount of particular micronutrients that play roles in gene expression or the plant used could have a compound that protects against fertility. Its so interesting because I do nutrition research. So Who knows!

I wouldn't have given the secret away. beautiful people, increasing the population with beautifully melanated children. I love it. at least, take the recipe video down, and then charge for it. or, even monopolize and turn it into a product that can only be bought through you guys.

ArghRawrWhoa lol Commercializing our customs, culture & traditions doesn't come to mind naturally for we Africans. It's why foreigners seem to end up being the ones to cash in on our 'ideas'. Although, even when we try to, the funds are not usually there.

Battabox! Battabox!! I mean, Barrabox!! How many times did I call you? LOL, good job! This was an awesome video. In fact, these are the kind of stories your KZbin family have been begging for, thank you. I was so emotional during this video, Nigeria still has a long way to go but it was so moving watching some parts of our culture that isn't mainstream. A lot of the people in the community attributed the high rate of twins to Ilasa soup but I think it has more to the with the Amala. It has been said that "...yams contains phytoestrogen, an estrogen compound that increases a woman’s Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), and may induce a higher rate of ovulation. This chemical component is concentrated in the peelings from yam, and it has been linked to a hyper ovulation-the release of more than one egg, which usually leads to twin pregnancies." Source: www.vanguardngr.com/2013/05/can-eating-yams-really-give-you-twins/

Batta Box please keep up the excellent beautiful documentaries. I shall support soon. Peoples, whether its luck, God, soup or genetics listen to this- Two men were born from different families. One has the natural talent of fighting, agile, strength and abilities so took his talent for granted and practised a lot less but relied on his fathers past fighting reputation, while the other had a lot less ability but practised devoutly and believed highly in himself and learnt from a fighting Master consistently. They had a competition match to fight each other. Who do you think will win? Before you answer, the first man is like luck and God while the second man is like culture, ritual and genetics.
