I have seven cats at home, and I can attest that there’s nothing like a cat curling up beside you and purring itself to sleep. But a cheetah doing those things? My goodness. I don’t think I’d be able to make it through the night - I’d die from the euphoria of just being able to pet the cheetah, let alone snuggle with it. Wow. You are very fortunate to have been able to conduct this experiment. Thank you for treating these sweet babies with respect and love. :)
@CheetahWhisperer7 жыл бұрын
I have been foturnate. When I 1st volunteered at Cheetah Experience, I was offered to spend nights with 4 of them. I did not because it was dirty, buggie, and unsanitary. So I opted to stay inside with one of them. It was Gabriel, a 10 mo old cub. He LOVED it, and would lay right on top of me; purring away and grooming me. Next time I volunteer, I had to try outside. I was not disappointed. Both Eden and Faith were snuggle cats and it was so natural to them to spend the night with you. THey expected someone to share a blanket with and march in and lay next to you. The 1st 20 minutes are always groom sessions and love bites, then purring themselves to sleep. It was MAGICAL and have done it ever since when volunteering. I've spent nights with young leopards as well, babysitting for their safety and they are basically the same... but play more with you before curling up next to you for the night.

I think it would do the opposite. They purr very loudly, you feel each purr so well. Their heartbeat as well you would feel so well. Not to mention all the licking, love bites, grooming you would have a very hard time falling asleep. Especially the first few nights you would be on edge a lot. You would be nervous and maybe even a little scared the first nights they are cheetahs after all and that would linger in the back of your mind for quite a long time.

Tom, you must be a canine person. "Packs" are dogs my brotha, "prides" are for cats. Cats are no less loving and social than dogs. They just do it in a different way. If you understand cats, you'll know what I am sayin. Everyone says cats are unpredictable, but I have never been surprised by one. Having had Mountain Lions to house cats, they are all exactly the same. You have to respect them, as you know, even a 3 lb house cat can ruin your day if you don't. I liked at the end of the video, he says he wasn't a cat person before these.... How can you not be a cat person? Cats are the best!
@tomford96959 жыл бұрын
jjsracing1469 You are correct. They are pride not a pack. yes I lived in the mountains of Oregon. I have dealt with mountain lions myself. And some other wildlife. They can ruin your day if you do not respect them and their territory.

These two are one of the nicest cheetahs at this breeding center. Every year now, when I volunteer, staff let me spend my nights with them and some others. For three weeks I spent only 2 nights in my bed in my room they gave me :=) Eden and Faith remember the routine and begin waiting for me in their cheetah box and the blankets :) It is so cute. They love it and so do I. I've learned to fall asleep but only sporadically as they are very alert and awaken at the slightest shift, movement or sound from FAR away and get up, move, and lay in a new position next to you. It is a survival instinct.

"Love and affection goes both ways." SO true. You're able to see it in currently domesticated animals such as dogs and cats. If you treat them harshly, they'll come to see humans as a threat. Whereas if you treat them lovingly, they'll come to see humans as something worth trusting.

What a beautiful series, Dolph. In a way it reminded me of a cat I adopted from the animal shelter. Bub was not a cuddler during the day, but, he would "head butt" on my leg when he knew it was bedtime; even if Ididn't need/want to go to bed at that time. Yeah, I always gave in and went to bed when he wanted. He would crawl up on my chest and begin the same kind of purr the cheetha's did to you AND, then, would proceed to groom my hair, gradually moving to my forehead, then, yup, my nose! Many times he, too drew blood (nose) and licked my forehead and nose raw. But, like you, I permitted it until he was finished. To top it off, that's when we had our nightly conversations: I'd ask how his day was, what he did, etc. He would silently "mouth" the answer after giving the question some thought. It still cracks me up thinking about our time. I lived in an apt at that time, and had him trained on leash so he could go down on the patio; eventually, didn't have to have the leash. He'd go upstairs at wait at the apt door, when he was told it was time to go home; well, MOST of the time. I miss him so much (passed from renal failure) and how attached we were to each other. So, when you were being licked to death, kept awake due to the purring, groomed, it made me think just how closely related your cheeta' are to my house cat, Bub. Thank you for taking us on this journey and educational field trip, Dolph. Y'all Be Safe!

That's what I say! It's called empirical research, where one becomes involved directly with a subject. I always wanted to embed myself inside a wild wolf pack in North America; live among them, sleep, eat, even hunt together to learn more about them. Never got the chance. This was the next best thing. I still may embed myself with tamed but wild released cheetahs one day and record their lives... living among them. Thanks for watching.

Unlike about 95% of the rest of the scientific world... I prefer empirical research when studying and learning about animal behavior because I believe you learn more about an animal when they are relaxed around you and not inhibited by fear, worry, stress, or other factors. True, natural behavior is the wild is different and there needs to be both, but in captivity, there is no better way for me and the rewards are immeasurable for someone who loves animals. I have a Zoology degree and this is how I practice it :) I wanted to be a marine mammal vet. I only get to do this volunteering right now but will one do this full time. I enjoy sharing what I've learned and education while entertaining. Sometimes I just post something cute or funny. Animals are an endless supply of education and entertainment.

Dolph C. Volker that sounds awesome and I am pretty jealous :D a friend of mine got two old english bulldogs. sometimes i watch them overnight and they are used to sleeping in the bed with their owners. so when i watch them they snuggle up to me. female lies between my legs on the blanket while the male prefers to put his head close to my own head or throat or breast and immediatly goes to sleep. This all happens in seconds after I made myself comfy on the couch. that snoring is .. well you get used to it after some .. well i don´t really get used to it ^^ they are no cheetahs but i love the company of animals. The good part is: they dont groom me to death ^^ they groom and nibble bite me, but it is not painful at all. Well still jealous, I bet that is a unique and calming experience to spend a night with such awesome animals. My St. Bernard spends her time asleep on my lap every night (well, just a third of her) as I watch TV. She sleeps on bed occasionally when it's cold. I give her complete freedom to choose. Thanks for watching!

Dolph C. Volker Yepp, thats pretty nice and I take it as a compliment, when they decide to sleep next(on) me. They are really loved dogs and a bit spoiled and needy but.. well why not ^^ Spending time with cheetahs is definitily on my bucket list as well. this looks really awesome and Im looking foreward for more footage :)

There are ambassador programs at zoos who have cheetahs. Tamed cheetahs are similar to tamed wolves and staff can walk both on leashes for public viewing and even encounters. Look it up in your area. I've walked wolves at a sanctuary before. But if you save some time and money, fly to South Africa, Bloemfontein and visit and.or volunteer for a day or weeks and have an encounter of your life. www.cheetahexperience.com. Surprisingly, they are short of help and volunteers this past 6 months. I'll return sometime this summer.

Super glad you enjoyed the video. I was JUST as surprised by a cheetahs temperament, affection, and wanting to snuggle so much. I was blown away. My 1st time volunteering at Cheetah Experience, I would not spend nights outside (it was offered by staff) because I didn't know they would be like this (there were 3 of them back then) and I didn't want to lay in dirt, mites, ticks, germs, spiders, and mosquitoes. I spent nights with Gabriel the 8 month old cheetah inside the house. The following year I returned and that is when you see me with Eden and Faith. They placed tile down plus floor heaters :) That kept it clean and then these videos. Now I even sleep outside in the dirt with a number of cheetahs when I am there... it's that magical. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZ6TmKp7dpmLnKc No no matter the weather I spend most of my nights outside with the cheetahs instead of my bunk at the volunteer house.

I've had the chance to be in contact with a cheetah, but nothing of this scale, when I was petting her, that purr was both the strongest and softest I had ever heard, it really is amazing how eerily similar they are to a common house cat, but are to be respected nonetheless.

Many cheetahs are very much like house cats but I've seen they are so much more to them. More complex and of course wild too, but so are house cats.

Love, love, love! So sad, that not so many people are so kind to animals...Just dream to live among such people with animals...

I just keep showing how wonderful these wild animals are and people will see. Not many show the direct interaction and personalities of these creatures and I love exposing the false myths. They are loving and emotional just like us but also can segregate and become prejudiced against those they do not know.

A good thing about them liking humans is that you get to gain their trust and that helps with rehabilitation and sanctuary purposes. The bad thing about this is because with too much human interaction, this causes them not to be able to be released back to the wild because the threats of poachers or hunters, among other threats
@CheetahWhisperer3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is why a soft release is performed where they are released into a safe enclosed game range, monitored, substitute food if needed and most become self sufficient. No humans or predators. THEN, if they breed, their cubs can become adults and are wild. The only concern then is predator avoidance. It is not taught to the cubs and not certain if instincts can keep them out of trouble from leopards, lions and hyenas. They may still need to be released in to a wild with no predators.
@solescorpionofficial3 жыл бұрын
@@CheetahWhisperer There are risks to this and this can lead to a few Cubs not being able to survive on their own including those re-released back into the wild. Fortunately some adapt and live the lifes they are supposed to have :)

It was an absolute pleasure spending nights with these two and sharing the encounter with the world. I hope people realize through my videos that ALL animals have unique personalities and if you want to see them... show them love and respect and they will reveal themselves to you.

OMG! I thought I had died and gone to Heaven, when I happened to find your videos. As far back as I can remember, Cheetahs have been my favorite of any animal. I want to tell you: If I had a "jealous bone" in my body, I would be envious. I don't, so I am very, very happy for you. You are special! Yes, you know I joined your channel!
@CheetahWhisperer9 жыл бұрын
+brenda126176 I can see right now that you have GOT TO save time and money and fly to Cheetah Experience or other Big Cat support centers to volunteer there. Many people do and this is how I ended up there. You are lucky in that you have admired Cheetahs your entire life. I only recently discovered how wonderful they are, but are now my favorite cat. I always thought they were aggressive killers like all Big Cats and was blow away by how nice they are and non aggressive, even the wild ones. They are very special. No one would sleep with a lion or leopard they didn't know. These Cheetahs barley knew me, yet snuggled up 1st night I spent with then after only 4 days of knowing them. Just incredible. I cry on the inside now for every Cheetah I learn that has died. They mean that much to me. I hope to have many more enjoyable and educational videos about Cheetahs and Big Cats in the future. I want to dedicate all my resources to supporting them but 1st have to get out of my career job in IT.
