Jake, ask your dad if he remembers a crabber vessel named “The Fierce Contender “ from the mid eighties (86/87 on) it was a converted mud boat from Morgan City LA. I was involved with the acquisition, refit and transit from MC LA to Astoria Oregon and then on to Dutch.. Them was some serious dysfunctional times 😂 just a note, I was 27 in 86 and came from a farming family and had never been more than a mile off the shore of the pacific.. it took 36 days at sea to make transit from LA. To Astoria and I seriously puked for 36 days😂😭

I really enjoyed this! Hearing about the instrumentation and what their signals mean was pretty cool. It's great to hear you vocalize your idle thoughts when you're on watch in the pilothouse when there's no 'action', feels cozy and relatable since I bet a lot of people have those moments when we just talk out loud like that (This fried rice is so good!). Subscribed! Hope you have fair seas!

So are you in Alaska right now cause if it's night time and it's that bright out you are definitely in the Arctic Circle other things you said it was impossible to sleep when the boat is pitching violently in the seas Couldn't you guys have a couple sea keepers installed it won't do anything for the outer Stern rocking but it will do a lot for the side to side rocking

Oh so you stop the radar to figure out what's beneath you I have a Doppler system on my yacht that I use it for weather of course we do have rods and reels on the yacht but we're not professional fishermen and as far professional fishing boats I'm not too familiar with them it may not be physically possible to put sea keepers on them or have a bridge with a dayhead on it. By the way is your fishing vessel fitted with a Forward infrared looking radar system?

So there is no day head on the bridge. One thing I specified on my build was to have a full head with a walk in shower on the bridge cause the dynamic can turn into a birth with a curtain that pulls around for privacy and there's also a television place to hang clothes so we take on an extra person beyond what our cabins will allow we have a birth for them And I'm one of the few people who had his yacht built so the master state room is at midships at the lowest deck for the least amount of pitching and rolling even though I do have a full set of sea keepers and Finn stabilizers One of the other things I specified that the captain's quarters must have a queen-sized bed must have a large TV and a sitting area beyond just a little patch of carpet and a full head with a bathtub it can be a bath shower combo which it is The VIP state room and the master state room has the Bathtubs in them and there's a tub room in the crew area for when they want it take a bath but they have full on sweets in their quarters with walking shower
