I notice it because I usually think it's too quiet. (HD600s give pretty neutral sound, but I use them for entertainment and not just reference). I tend to bump it up via equalizer by +1 to +6db, depending on the mix. If you took the bass out of a thrash metal song, for example, it would truly sound horrible. The bass fills up that lower part of the spectrum. It's absolutely necessary.

This song hits like, really close to home for me, I live in a small town like possum springs where you either move away or stay trapped, I got the chance to go to college so assuming I don't break I'll eventually be able to move away. But I always get this feeling that it's the wrong thing to do. All my family lives here, I grew up here, maybe I'm not thinking about what was here before. But I don't want this place to be my life, I don't want to go another 20 years in this same town. I dunno, I guess NITW made me realize a lot of stuff that I'd been happy ignoring or pretending wasn't bothering me. I think that's why I love it so much, it made these things that were hurting me things I could hold onto and identify, instead of being sad and not knowing why I actually understand what's going on with me. I know how you feel. My hometown is a lot like Possum Springs too. Old abandoned shoe factory/farm town whose only special thing now is an annual fair. Most people have never heard of my town, and if they do know it, its only because of the fair. Its bittersweet being away from there now. I miss knowing every street, pretty much every family, where I live now doesn't feel as powerfully familiar and cozy. But its also a dead-end town. There's nothing there for you as an adult. My mom still has my sister in school and she dreams of moving away after she's out. Its just . . a residence town. A few minimum wage jobs, no opportunities. When a new store or restaurant opens up its like a huge event and everyone has to go there and try it out. NitW feels almost like I'm visiting again. Minus all the spooky cult stuff. In my old hometown here's just like, a haunted mansion or two left over from the shoe mill days.

Everytime I listened to this song, I just broke down, crying.
