This game changed me as a person. Living in a rustbelt town that's the same as Possum Springs, I understood the setting perfectly and the people that lived there. It's a small dying town and everybody finds ways to escape the boredom when there's nothing to do but play on the train tracks and hang out at circle K. This game captures the feeling you have when the only Italian restaurant in town closes down or you go to the mall that only has 5 stores open. But the characters in Nitw were my age and going out and having adventures in a town the same as my own, while i sat inside. The game showed me that possibility and i think ive been chasing that adventure ever since I played the game. Because by the end, Night in the Woods made me realize how much I'm wasting my 20s. I feel you on on this. This game comforts me a lot, my family is from a dead/dying town in the Midwest and I'm living in a small town right now in a parents house, feeling like I've not done much with life. The characters all make sense, especially Mae with her bluntness. I related to them in a way that is rare for game characters, and the emotions that pervade the game. Nitw helped me get over my resentment and just enjoy the texture, emotion and everyday joys of living somewhere that's decaying.

This is an entire mood. I connected so heavily with NITW because I grew up in such a dead-end town that didn't go anywhere, that you could walk through in about an hour if you had good legs and the time.. It reminds me of better days, youthful times.... Back when my Dad and I would go star-gazing, or my sister and I would go through the abandoned glass factory by the lake park after getting off the train tracks. Good times, but also bad ones.

It's weird, the music in Night in the Woods never really stood out to me as anything that noteworthy while I was playing. But now that I'm listening to it on its own, it's able to bring me back to all the feels of playing the game, without having to touch a controller. I guess that means it's a pretty great soundtrack, or at least that it was well-implemented in the game.

TO: +spook Well, the game Undertale does not suck, it is much like this game, a really good game. BUT, the fandom is horrible, the game's relationship stories got out of hand, and the community went WILD with making horrible art, depending of fetishes, or other messed up shit, like a dude who's like 30 and jack's off to MLP porn. It's a really messed up community, but this game is also really good, the sountrack, etc. basically the whole game in general. Although it can get out of hand at some point. :/ Which in the case if that DOES happen, the devs can't fix that, they have to live with it, and so does the community.

I know this video is old, but. One of my closest internet friends loved NiTW. I first heard about the game from them and it intrigued me. I read about the characters and storyline a bit(never spoiled myself though because i was planning on buying it at some point), i always thought Mae was a lot like them. About a year ago, they logged off for the last time, idk where they went, no way of contacting them. Never got to playing it while they were still around. (Sorry for the bad English) This Game has brought me more than just entertainment. In many points I could find myself in Mae and recognize aspects of my life. In December, after 6 years, I found the courage to drop out of my law studies shortly before the end. It was already clear to me after 2 years that this is not the right thing for me. My parents are Chinese, so maybe that helps to understand why I couldn't drop out for so long. It is somehow a "tradition" that you just go through with things, even if you don't like them. In addition, all subjects that don't have to do with medicine, law or anything to do with business are taboo. The pressure from home and the conflict within myself to study something I couldn't identify with drove me into depression. I wasted years doing nothing. When I was home for Christmas, I finally found the courage to tell my parents that I would not continue studying law. As I feared, the conversation came close to disinheritance, but I am relieved. I have no idea what to do with my life or what I want to do. But for the first time since graduating from high school, I feel free. Somehow I associate this game and soundtrack with my own freedom.

This game perfectly captures the complex and often conflicting emotions that come with moving back to your home town. But more than that i think also works very well as a representation of life in your mid to late 20s. Particularity for those of us who grew up to find life nothing like we imagined it would be. There becomes a great temptation to burrow further and further into nostalgia, remembering a glorious and wonderful past that never really existed. And the more you reach for it the more disappointment and detachment you find because time moves on regardless. It doesn't care about any of our foolish concerns. There was an old coffee shop in my town that was the hang out spot for nerds, the owner would let you take up a booth in the back all day for a cup of coffee. I had so many formative experiences in my youth there, so many interesting conversations. Friendships forged and occasionally lost. When i came back from Uni it had been bulldozed to make way for some new apartments. When i saw that, in that moment i just felt trapped beneath the unstoppable wheels of time. That something so important to me was just gone felt wrong. And it can't ever be revived, even if i met some of my high school friends in a coffee shop in that town today they'd all be talking about their jobs, houses and kids. That moment in time and the people that populated it are gone. And so that place and all the memories attached to it will just fade away. It makes me so sad sometimes to think about all the little things like that i've lost but i also know if you only focus on what you've lost you will go mad. Sorry for the ramble, the game just brings up a lot of emotions. Which is a good thing. It remains one of my favorite games and the soundtrack is a perfect accompaniment for when i'm feeling sad and nostalgic.

There were many times I heard mentions of Night in the Woods, predominantly from Jacksepticeye. I never watched his videos of the game, but his absolute praise and love for it always stuck with me. I finally decided to pull the trigger on this game the other week to see what all the fuss was about, and boy was I not aware of how this game was going to hit me. My late teens and early 20s was a horrible period in my life. I was aimless, hopeless, and becoming further isolated from those I was friends with as the years went by. I saw a lot of myself in Mae, and I understood so much of how she felt throughout the game. What really stuck with me was her mom reminding Mae that your relationships need to be watered if it has any hope of growing. I'm slowly getting back into a better place in my life attending college again, but that hit me like a truck. I took a lot of people for granted, and when that didn't happen, I was too anxious/depressed to keep watering many of my friendships. And they died. Towards the end of the game as [spoilers] several characters were moving on with their lives and leaving others behind, I was starting to feel emotional being reminded of how I essentially floated through a whole decade of my life. A lot can change in that time. A lot can change in just two weeks, as Mae witnessed. Nothing in life is permanent, and we truly do need to ask ourselves what we will hold onto, and what we must let go of. Don't waste your time on people/things that don't make you happy. But don't become detached from everything in pessimistic-nihilism. You always get a choice in what you do and who you spend time with. And that will 100% shape your future and who you become. Please always remember that you have a choice.

The soundtrack gives me sooooo many feels tbh because i live in an area similar to possum springs. A small dead-end village in the middle of nowhere surrounded by woods. Small local cafes, pizza places, small local shops and a tall church that looks extremely similar to the one in possum springs. Especially because i first saw this game in autumn. I love this game sooo much. A lot of the characters are similar to some people i know too. Theres nothing to do here but its a nice place. ALWAYS roadwork. I just hope one day ill have friends and we'll be able to do stuff together like mae and her friends.

Yeah you're right, but I take issue with the necessary destruction of context that comes with the comparison; The soundtrack for NITW was inspired by certain bands and was meant to evoke a hopeful yet somewhat sad sort of small-town vibe, and it does so brilliantly. It literally feels like you're a college student whose mind turned against her but now you're back home and finding your way back. Undertale on the other hand is an homage to games from the 90s and as such sounds a lot like Castlevania, Earthbound etc. Despite being a tribute and thus being confined to rather narrow types of sounds progressions etc, it manages to make you tear up (ASGORE and Waterfall are my favorites). Like yeah they're both amazing but comparing the two just sucks the soul out of two innocent amazing projects yknow

This game brought me back in touch with my humanity and back to life as you could say, it felt like I was breathing for the first time in ages. Life in the world hasn't been kind to me, and every time I took a blow from life it felt like I started losing what made me *me*. Things got so bad where I was desperate to desensitize myself from feeling anything, I was falling away from everything but then I found this gem. All I needed was someone to relate to, someone who was in deep just like I was, Who was a mess like I was. it really helped me remember that the sun will always rise again, that we are never alone in our struggles and pains. My world lost its color, but walking through possum springs brought it back. Every time I came back I found myself feeling happier with every visit. Would it be alright to say that I shed a tear for myself for the first time in ages? Because that's what happened. in the past I said I wouldn't cry again as a young kid, and since then I never did. Life took so much of a toll on me back then that I convinced myself that my tears were meaningless, worthless and no matter how much I've struggled I wouldn't amount to anything. As time flew by in years, It felt like I was dying inside but then by some kind of chance or miracle I found this place, the characters the whole entire thing was melting away the walls I made and was buried behind. So I will stand up and say it, this brought me back from the brink of despair. It cleared the illusions from my heart and mind, and I am ever so appreciative of that. Because in a way this saved me from never being alive again, so thank you so much from the very bottom of my heart to everyone who came together and brought this masterpiece to life as well as bringing me and many others who've been hurt back from the dark. My best wishes for a happy future to you and everyone, I hope to see more of the greatness that made this possible. I want to see more games like this, because we never see anything like this in the gaming industry. A story/game that heals, who would have thought we needed something like this so badly

I'm not usually one for visual novels, but this game hit harder than a freight train for me. I originally played it back in 2017 and thought it was just a neat game, but I recently played through it again, and it was hauntingly relatable. I don't think there's anything that captures longing for the past, uncertainty about the future, changing relationships, and the utter meaninglessness of our universe like NITW. This soundtrack kept me alive while I worked on my senior thesis. I made a side scrolling pixel art game and it took my soul out of me, working day and night until I was more burned out and exhausted than I’ve ever been before. I had this soundtrack on loop while I sat and drew and animated and programmed and worked through the night, went to bed and then repeated it again the next day for months. Sometimes I have weird feeling. I can't explain it very well. It happens when I recall a game, movie or tv show, and not only the title comes to mind but everything that I liked about it comes to mind. I feel nice for a few seconds, as if I swallowed a cloud of happiness or as if something warm hugged me when I recalled just the name, and I feel like I am in the specific setting and I live in this memory for a moment. You're at real college now, studying real animation. You love your roommates and your new friends, and to be honest you've never been this happy. But things are still hard. But one thing hasn't changed- when I heard the first note of Town Part 1, I immediately got hit with such a strong emotion that I almost broke down crying. This game and it's music inspires me so much. Now I really want to make a game of my own I even took up coding and started planning characters and story lol.
