Boogie Woogie / Blues is the backbone of virtually all American music. I was about six years old when I stumbled across a lone musician playing some really deep down Boogie Woogie, all alone in a room at the YMCA where I went for my Sat. swimming lessons. It was the first live music I had ever heard and I was transfixed and riveted to the floor for what seemed to be an eternity. That experience has stayed with me all my life. I became a drummer and eventually played with many of my idols, and I still attribute it all to that Boogie Woogie piano player, whose name I'll never know!

Boogie woogie has been a part of my life ever since I purchased my first album of Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson’s “8 to the Bar” Eight sides of heavenly piano artistry. Therapists should play boogie for their patients who come to them with depression.
@cactusjackNV Жыл бұрын
@@anibalcesarnishizk2205 Boogie Woogie was one of the many influences that went into Rock and Roll. Also important to point out that Boogie Woogie was only one part of the Blues genre. It's important to keep that in mind because the Blues as a whole in general, was a much greater influence in Rock and Jazz. In my research I've noticed people tend to exaggerate a wee bit much when it comes to Boogie Woogie. Don't get me wrong, I like some just as much as the next guy.

Wow, simply incredible! Jools Holland simply rocks. He was always my favourite part of The Tube on Channel 4 as it was a live music show and sometimes the prearranged bands would fail to show up - and Jools would sit in and just play at the piano. So many times I would just watch hoping that a band had stood the station up and I’d get to see Jools’ brilliance on display. I just adore the guy. And I can’t say that about many artists! And this clip with Dr John makes it a classic!

Not only is your suggestion that Dr John's partner in this duet is/was Prof. Longhair wrong, but this music - boogie woogie is believed & is accepted by music academics, to have originated in East Texas in the late 1800's, NOT New Orleans, Louisiana. Hell, what do I know, I'm only a Brit! Maybe do your research before 'enlightening' more of your students.
@HoustonGuitar2 ай бұрын
@@kevinrandell I didn't say his partner was Prof Longhair, I said, "Know the name." Regardless of its 19th century origins, Dr J and Prof L spent a lot more time in NO than East Texas. I first saw Jools on the Tube with Paula Yates all those years ago and didn't even know who he was. It was only when Nigel Planer came on with Young ones crew when they were doing that Spinal Tap type skit and said to Jools you were in that band that played that song and hummed some Squeeze tune, it was funny but Jools shrugged it off as though Nigels character was being childish,(as he was). I immediately gained respect for him for the musician he obviously was, though I can't remember him ever playing on the Tube,I loved Squeeze. Despite his sardonic style, and occasional on air expletive the BBC gave him more opportunities, I'm glad, as he was/is a motorcycle nut. I remember when he rode round the Mississippi Delta area on an old Brit bike, which I will forever remember when he uttered the Immortal line Harley Davidson eh,nice bike................ if your a girl! He visited Fats Domino and played a duet, you could tell as they played Fats had no idea of his talent either, he reeled back and said, MAN..... YOUR GOOOOOOD. Nice to see him displaying his talents on the other side of the pond.

He has 2 solo piano albums, Dr John plays Mac Rebennack vol 1 and 2 that are exquisite, they are on here and Spotify. Thank me later...

If you could be arrested for being "too good" on the piano, both these guys would be in jail. Good God amighty now. These guys can play. Marc.

His belt is like 3 inches off center, and he is going with the casual shoe laces instead of a tie. Well call me impressed! 🤩

dangerous? lol....well jamming with the wrong cat can make a mess of things, but Pete Johnson and Albert Ammons had plenty of time together. Yet Jools and Mac do justice to their memory. Enjoy a great duo
