I've read a theory that Mergo's cry was essentially a massive Beckoning Bell, calling Great Ones from across the realms to Yharnam, so you're pretty spot on to that theory.

Well... considering the previous track's name being an area track (maybe,) this is pretty much the Hunter somehow forcing Oedon into a physical form that can be killed and it being PISSED at the audacity.

I love how this feels like the exact opposite of Moon Presence's theme. Instead of a terrified being fighting for its life against an insatiable hunter, this track gives off the vibe of a furious god showing a hunter its wrath

Incredible Alex! It sounds A LOT like the Moon Precence theme , but mch more subtle and chaotic. It really sounds like the hunter , or our character , is truly deep sleeping , with little to no chance of waking up. Like some nights , where you may know you are drifting to nightmares , but for reasons , your body doesn't respond to waking up to reality. Especially when you are cold or tired. I really smell that the boss is our hunter , having grown up from an infant great one they were. Maybe , it is heavy asleep too, wanting to wake , but cannot . That agony could be drawn also to the music. Maybe the character is truly showing mercy to us , by freeing us from the bloody dream we owned. And that's a relief. Even when what awaits is death itself , when we wake.
