Fantasia was not made specifically for children. It was Disney's grand experiment to showcase animation as an artform by paring it with classical music. Hence animators were given the freedom to create stories with more adult themes and challenge the perception that animation was merely kid stuff. 😊
@snoopy1243 жыл бұрын
S B you also have to remember then in that era, the animated was rarely intended for children’s, we see the Simpsons like the beginning of the adults animation, but on the contrary, the animation was created for adults and Mickey slowly chance that

This is a beautiful piece. The whole segment. It goes more than just in one direction. It's so epic. Perhaps this even surpasses THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE. I imagine this is how Old Scratch conjures up his minions and how they carry out his will. All the Disney villains are following him. It was confusing at first, but now I know why the Nostalgia Critic put him at the top of the Disney Villains List.
@OldTimeyDragon Жыл бұрын
The scariest part to me is when Chernabog throws those demons in the fires. Here they are, dancing the most wild and incessant dance to worship and please their master, he raises them in his hands, seemingly amused by their dance, and yet he still tosses them down like garbage to be disposed of, with burning them alive seemingly giving him more joy than their dance could ever bring. And how do the other demons react? Do they recoil in fear? Do they dance harder to avoid the same fate? Nope, they revel in the display, seemingly just as gleeful as their master was to do it. There's such a lack of morality, and of empathy that it's truly terrifying. And even if it's not most, there certainly are humans who could steep to this level of maliciousness, and that is also terrifying.

I was 8 when this came out in the '70s. I was in the movie theater with my dad and older brother. The whole sequence scared the crap out of me. I tried to hold on as long as I could, but then I finally indicated to my dad that I was outta there. So...he and I walk up the ramp out of that screening room. We go out to the hallway. He tells me to 'stay here.'...and walks back in to sit with my brother. Don't judge. It was the 70s. Children had less supervision back then...and we liked it that way, thank you very much. Me...I'm kinda peeking through the cracks of the door to see when it was 'safe' to go back in. Didn't budge until the "Ava Maria' sequence came on....then I managed to get the doors open, walked back down the aisle, and sat back in my seat....of course now its my favorite....but seriously.. what he does to those fire people is pretty messed up. That was my breaking point.

For a while they were releasing some of their animated classics--Lion King, Beauty and the Beast--in 3D, and they looked quite good. But the later releases didn't do as well as Lion King, and they aborted plans to do more. I'd have LOVED for them to do Fantasia in 3D if only to see Night on Bald Mountain in glorious 3D IMAX! More to the point--there's been talk of doing a live-action feature inspired by this segment. I kind of like the idea. If they set it in the 1800s, focused on the legend of Walpurgis Night and the demon Chernabog, and how the villagers react to it...it could have sort of a Hammer Horror vibe. The only problem is that now we'll never get to hear Sir Christopher Lee voice Chernabog.
