What do you think of Night On The Galactic Railroad? Did you love it or hate it? Why? Which films - anime or otherwise - do you feel are similar to Night On The Galactic Railroad? Thanks for watching!

I love it! The animation is beautiful. The animation reminded me of Wolfwalkers, another beautiful animated movie. It makes me sad that 2D animated movies are becoming rarer and rarer these days. 😞

I really loved it and felt shattered with it. Electronic music such as this is already present in my childhood's mindset, and sadness and loneliness in this story feels very familiar and bittersweet. Curiously, I've never perceived the blooming queer love between both boys, even myself being gay and very romantic 😅. But I did had some Monument-Valley vibes with designs of buildings and some scenarios. As for references to Christianity in the film, I like the statement that it is just one populous destination, but NOT the only one.

Really liked it, it's great art to see all around. In design, animation, sound, and expressing the emotions of the people involved, so good...

I only found out and watched this movie a few days ago. One of the best I've ever seen. I really connected to Giovanni at the first part of the movie, like him, I also was only able to relate to adults when I was a kid. It's such a specific detail that I've never seen in fiction before. Giovanni felt the world in a very similar way that I did.

Based on the great (never-finished) novel of Kenji Miyazawa, who wrote it after the dead of his little sister, this adaptation achieves a sensation similar to walking in the edge of a beautiful, fascinating and strange dream, sad and dark. A story told quietly to let yourself led by its mystery and sensations while thinking about friendship, life and death, eternity, weakness of time, sacrifice, universe and memory...leading everything to one of the most heartbreaking twists ever. Not many times has anime reached such level in the '80s.

I would like to say this is a very well explained video of this movie i was a bit confused but could make sense of the relationship between both of these characters and what the premise or theme this movie was trying to convey but you explained it more thoroughly at first i thought it was definitely queer coded the expression of love and devotion between these characters in the train ride but after you explained it now I understand better that their connection with each other beyond travelling from each dimension universe experience only to end up being apart in the end but knowing that they will forever remember each other for a lifetime is quit moving I definitely think there was a lot more symbolism in this movie it remind me of surrealism in away it was definitely trippy but still enjoyable to watch kinda feels like an abstract movie for kids lol

Excuse me. How come you didn't discuss comparing Giovanni's sacrifice to the events of the Titanic and the Scorpion tale?
@YouHaveBeenWatchingFilms

That's a fair point, I probably should have as they are so thematically important, but I was certainly fixated on Giovanni and Campanella's bond, I'm sorry for overlooking this!

Let's not forget the scene where: Giovanni is looking out from the window then turns back to Campanella, expecting a stare back, only to see him with a new found interest in the human girl, as they keep talking and Campanella does not give him the look back. And the scene drags on a bit, Giovanni getting confused looks, looking like he's deep in thought, even looking back a couple more times, noticing their attention is still not met. I might be adding a bit of bias, but man that scene did drag for quite a while. Just seemed like they wanted to portray some slight jealousy.
