I have been enjoying my Sony A100 quite a lot, and the fact that it uses the same lenses as my Minolta Maxxum bodies is the frosting on the cake!

Ali from One Month Two Cameras and Lucy Lumen convinced me to try out some old CCD digicams. It’s a lotta fun and I made a lotta good pictures. Shooting a Nikon P7100 feels a lot like shooting a classic compact rangefinder. Shooting a Sony DSC-F828 doesn’t have much in common with any film camera… but it’s still fun. I’m not giving up on analog, either… but as my Mom said when I majored in Cultural Anthropology, it’s nice to have something to fall back on. 😂

In Japan digicams are huge and are used as a substitute for film photography.

Hi Dave I enjoyed your video!! I understand your reasonings for still preferring to shoot with film. The biggest reason I recently gave up my film cameras is like you said the rising cost of film and developing it. Unfortunately where I live there is very limited film which actually forces me to purchase on the internet and with shipping costs increases the price. But as more KZbin videos pop up on old digicams all of the great reviews are beginning to raise the prices of those cameras where they're beginning to be overpriced. The best place and price on the older digicam is family members who have them stored in closets/dresser drawers, garage sales, or thrift stores. Keep your videos coming. Best, Duane

Thanks Duane. Cost and access to film can definitely be barriers to shooting film these days. I’ve been enjoying shooting my Nikon Coolpix L22 recently and I’ve got a Kodak digicam I’m looking forward to trying out too.

I've had the following model, the A720IS since it came out. When I need to take a digital photo, it's still my go-to camera even after all these years. I do appreciate that the menus actually make some sense when compared to some more modern cameras, so that's a big plus in my book. But sadly, like most digital cameras, it doesn't make my soul very happy like film does.

I recently picked up another Canon a650 IS 12.1mp digicam with the articulating LCD screen, these things were quite costly and 'premium' back in the day, I paid just £20 for it. Looking on ebay they're going for crazy money! £150 + I've had one before, they're very good and have the larger 1/1.7" ccd sensor. I'm always stunned by the images this can produce. Very similar form factor to yours.

Some of those shots belie the fact that you were using a camera from 2006. I'm thinking it was a pretty decent consumer camera back in its prime. I can't resist cheap old cameras so I've been collecting old digicams for a while now. I do enjoy shooting film, but it is a costly process (especially when you don't develop your own) but as someone who shoots a lot of digital cameras, they aren't a substitute for the effect you get with film. Great images all the same.

Nice shots. I know, you have a lot of Canon gear (as do I), but if you can find a cheap Nikon D70 or D200, you can come a bit closer to the "film experience" with digital in my opinion. What I mostly go for are digicams with RAW capability. That also requires a process before you have the finished photo. It's less messy of course, but can be quite satisfying.

Nice set! Powershots have nice sensors. Their problem is the vague optical viewfinders. When I use them the LCD screen provides better frame accuracy.

@@theoldcameraguy I have the Canon A720 IS 8.0 mp 6x zoom CCD sensor. Since film is so much more costly these days, these smaller cameras are easy to bring along and take some practice shots to find your best compositions before you take your film shots. You got some good night photos out of that camera. I particularly liked the alley shot and the first gas station.

Which prices of Kodak film prices going up! I can see a lot of us shooting digital photography as a means to keeping up with the idea of photographing everyday life. Like you, Dave…this price hack will not discourage me from shooting film but maybe slow me down a bit! Lol!

Every camera will be different. Only the still photos were taken on the Canon camera. I took the video on my iPhone XR. I hold my breath when I take night shots to minimize camera shake.

What are your thoughts on kalimar? i used to see Kalimar at kb toy store in the mall and other places. for the most part are a lot of the cheaper 35mm cameras with electronic flash like kodak star fuji vivitar point and shoot about the same or some much better then others? I didn't know if some companies use some of the same parts back then. I have heard of tvs using parts from other competitors befores like panels etc.
