This is a VLOG of living alone in Japan.
When I was a student, I was interviewed on TV in town.
500 yen, 1,000 yen, 2,000 yen...what kind of reward would you like to buy with each amount? I think it was something like that.
I was so indifferent to the idea of a reward that I couldn't come up with a quick answer....
It was like taking a test without studying.
I tried my best to twist the answer but it didn't make it to the broadcast 😂
Sweets to buy on the way home,
Glass bouquet of seasonal flowers,
Uber Eats on the day I decided to do nothing,
Cute cosmetics,
A quick stopover to watch a movie and go home...
Now that I'm a working adult, I can think of any number of things that soothe my soul 🍭
I sometimes remember that question that it is the days of hard work that are the reward.

I'm Nami, an office worker living alone in Tokyo.
The Japanese pronunciation "Nami" has several meanings.
One Nami is a girl's name, and the other Nami means ordinary.
Naminokurashi(Nami's life) is a combination of these two meanings.
Kurashi means daily life.
I don't have any special skills. My life is ordinary days.
I hope you enjoy my ordinary days!

I am half- Japanese and have lived in Japan all my life - but a lot of Japanese people do live in this way. Hard to describe in words, but they (we) are really conscientious and do pay attention to details, considerate of not other people’s feelings and of “things” that we use and surround us. We were taught that way from childhood. In my case more so because my grandfather is a Buddhist priest and grew up in the temple. Sadly, though, many younger generations have lost a lot of this virtue. Nami seems relatively young, so I really do admire this quality in her. It really is VERY Japanese.

I spent six weeks in Tokyo in 2016 and it was the experience of a lifetime. I loved going to the supermarkets to just see all the fascinating products - in particular the big selection of tiny toys to be put into children's lunchboxes. Just the amount of care and love in wanting to surprise your child at lunchtime just amazed me. Space is tight in Japan but things are engineered to be the best possible version of everyday items. The Japanese only eat small quantities of food but it's the most appealingly prepared and most delicious version of any food you can imagine. In short, there's an everyday awareness of enjoying life in a myriad of small ways in Japan including even appreciating "weeds" left to flourish in the park. I love Japan.

Now that summer is coming to an end you may be subconsciously yearning for Spring because of the flower hair ornament you made, as well as the pentamerous dessert dumplings ! I received a packet of matcha powder today and will try sprinkling a bit over vanilla ice cream for a very different flavor combination I don't believe I've had before.
