The artstyle kinda looks like the TV show Archer, so it's not terrible. But, like you said, the original has much better art direction and animation. I can hardly understand the voices in the remake but in the original it's clear ("You caught me off guard!!") It actually looks like they put their best effort into it in 1993, the remake looks like they sorta tried.

They cannot be compared because they're not even remotely the same art styles. The original is drawn in a cool anime style (often with characters that have typical, intimidating anime head to body ratios) while the remake just looks like a funny PC toon looking game, drawn by a total amateur, like those terrible mobile games 😂. I would play the original for the great graphics and gameplay and then that remake just for roaring laughs 🤣.

Ooooof... those bog standard, low budget, soulless visuals. It's not like you can't go from pixel-art to comics style either. Streets Of Rage 4 managed just that. And the animations.... damn. I'm still trying to process how you can fuck this up that hard. Nothing seems to align properly and it looks more rigid and choppy than the original. Worst part has to be the grabs. Like what the hell is even happening? It looks like it's straightup glitched. And then there's the first boss' death animation, which is ten times worse than the original. Unbelievable.
