Man such good chillout vibe and fun time you all had together shooting in Shibuya and Shinjuku, really enjoyed the video and pictures you took! Very shortly I will be back in Japan for 5-weeks and do street photography myself, and this video got me inspired. Maybe I will run into you guys when I'm in the area, that would be fun :)

Do you think is there a big difference shooting street photography in Japan as a local and as a foreigner? From what I've seen in many videos about Japan, I feel like japanese people would be less likely to confront a foreigner taking their picture, but they might say something to another japanese person.

I think it depends where you are. I know for my own experience, I spent time in the countryside (Mie prefecture) and most people just go about their own business, but I was also surprised how many would either actually turn to look at me while they were walking and stare out of curiosity, or some would literally approach me to talk. This is even before I had a camera out of its bag. I think that area gets little to no foreigners at all so people were very curious and with younger people the ‘pretend nobody is there’ mentality is kind of eroding. In a huge hub, like Tokyo, that’s used to seeing foreigners probably could get a way with a bit more without approach

You're absolutely right. These photographers are never as brave as they claim. They're always either shooting as a tourist or shooting minorities and women and enjoying their privilege. It's a very predatory behaviour.
