@mickdipiano87688 ай бұрын
Pretty easy to unfilled a pool. Plus it wasn't the pool that was haunted it was the water from the spring. The spring is their regardless of what's on top of it.
@JGrobby8 ай бұрын
@@mickdipiano8768That's what doesn't really make sense, or wasn't necessarily clarified. If it's the spring, then surely all the homes on that block are cursed regardless. What specifically makes that backyard pool the most dangerous entity if the tap water in the area is also cursed.
@touheed61408 ай бұрын
My understanding is that the pool isn't the only output for that water. by the end of the movie we saw it enter the tap water of that house. In Mrs. summers house too the fountain had the entity bec they had taken some from the pool/house water before leaving to keep her wish fulfilled (this relationship between the water and the possessed individual was explored by the Waller family too). Also once the water has been given its sacrifice by one family, it doesn't bother that family again. That's why possessed Mrs. Summers says something like "you'll leave the house we'll get it from them" when she was taunting the mom

I think this could have been an interesting concept. We see how much the Dad is struggling with his disease, and then the pool spirit tells him if he sacrifices one member of the family to it he can get his health back. And at first he says "hell no" of course, but he keeps getting worse and the pool keeps showing him visions of the perfect, healthy life as a famous baseball player he could have and we follow him struggling with deciding if he wants to go through with it, and if so, who he would choose to sacrifice for himself. That would be way more intestesting than "whoopsie, I didnt realize I made a deal to sacrifice my son and now I'm possessed."

oh I 100% agree with you that all of the horror movie output SHOULD be good but like 75% feels like throw away trash. Like at least in the older days when movie were cheap cash grabs they looked decent thanks to sets/practical effects/costume design/cinematography. Now we have like none of that and very weak scripts that could MAYBE be short films if they cut out a lot of fluff. I've seen so many recent horror movies that are like 80% melodrama and 20% horror to the point it feels like the horror was added in just to get sales/attention. Like I *want* to like more modern horror but I have much better luck with older stuff

Did anybody really expect “Night Swim” to be good? Let alone with a concept this unbelievable or tricky to pull off? In practice, it’s made even worse partially because the film can’t pick a tone and stick with it (whether to be drastically dire or absurdly silly) and mostly because the premise is way too restrictive and the film has to break itself into pieces to condense it for a full 98 minutes. There are only so many times you can disguise how little something happens while you wait for the disconcerting smoke and mirrors drop. Going for the jugular and providing an unhinged, bonkers experience was probably the better move here, especially since it never does effectively exploit those primal fears around water. And yeah, those jumpscares were garbage. The rest of the elements at play here barely matter. Cinematography is on the drab side, editing is clunky, special effects are embarrassing when you notice them, the pacing drags the otherwise acceptable runtime out to an obscene length and none of the characters stand out. Acting wise, the kids do the best with what they’re given but everyone else might as well be sleepwalking.

I was super interested because 1. I have thalassophobia and was scared of pools as a kid, 2) Kerry Condon is in it, and she's very good, 3) the concept is hard to do and interesting so I thought it might have some imagination

Regarding the baseball plot (huge baseball fan so loved that element) this is Wyatt Russell’s second film where he’s a baseball player (the Linklater comedy Everybody Wants Some! was the other) so I’m guessing that Wyatt Russell may have some early baseball experience pre-acting.
