The big discussion is not about Portnoy's return but about James Labrie's voice. The evolution is clear since the show in London. He must find new timbres and regions of his voice that he has in each song now. DT's songs are impossible to change the tone to lower (he must know that, of course). As a fan, I hope it is the way it is. Improving his voice with each performance. Go DT!!! Waiting for you in Brazil.
@Moshugaani29 күн бұрын
I love LaBrie and respect him for stretching his voice to the limits for decades and I don't wish him to retire. But I think they should have some new guy in live shows to help out on the high notes! He did pretty great on this song though.

Just want to second everyone saying that James is sounding a lot better live in this show. Lots of people want to hate, and there are certainly times where you can hear that he’s not singing so well life. However, to be his age and singing at all at the level that he does in the studio is something a lot of other singers, his age can’t do. And, I bet a lot of the haters are not singers, though, I’m sure some are. But the human voice is so dependent on health of the body and control of things that we sometimes don’t have control over (sickness, sleep, etc).
@or1on89Ай бұрын
It's a bit hilarious to dismiss as haters people who are pointing the obvious here. People like Dickinson, Halford, Myles Kennedy, David Coverdale, Meine, etc. do exist and have showed that you can take care of your voice and arrive at the door of your 60s or pass them while still being in good shape. I get fanboys gonna fanboy, but man for me it's really disappointing to see a band so renowned for their perfectionism and professionality arrive to their 40th anniversary and having to deal with such poor handling from the frontman...he pretty much has screamed is entire life instead of learning how to sing and now has lost his voice. I can't pity him, they're all Berklee graduate there, they know better...
@GuitarJesse7Ай бұрын
@@or1on89 I don’t think I dismissed all people who point out weak JLN vocals as haters, just trying to bring some balance to the criticism. And I do think that there are actual haters who don’t give any credit to his body of work. I can’t speak too much on all the people you listed that supposedly kept their voice in shape, but Coverdale? Come on, at least James tries to sing and doesn’t have the whole band covering half his lines. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnLKkneemat1mqssi=bzmfU8D5GvMo90ni From what I’ve heard Myles Kennedy does a good job caring for his voice. I’ll definitely grant that one. We’ll see how he does in 6 years when he’s the same age as James (And yes I know James has had rough live vocals for a while). I’m guessing he’ll be singing a lot better than James is.

I really need a Mesa Boogie Amp! To me, they just sound the best. But 4.000 - 5.000 Euro or Dollars is way too expensive for me. I have to get along with a cheap modeler. Better than nothing. It's all about having fun while playing Guitar.

JLB sounds less terrible here because this track is from their latest album and has Mike backing him up. He's not even trying to reach crazy high notes like he did on the past. Still, his vibrato is terrible and a sign of his lack of vocal control. From 4:32 to 5:00 he sounds flat. Same for the ending, he's mumbling the lyrics and can't get the pitch right.
