In times of rising Antisemitism and when Jews are feeling threatened again it is time for Christians to lift their voice for Israel and the Jewish people. 82 years after the first deportation left the Transit Camp Westerbork to Auschwitz, which was only possible as the majority of the Dutch populations stayed silent, a new generation of Dutch and German Christians is rising that is willing to face the difficult lessons of the past and is proclaiming: Am Israel Chai.
The “Night to Honour Israel” in Amsterdam is the final event of the first Mars van het Leven and will celebrate the people of Israel with music, dance and keynote speakers.
About the “Mars van het Leven”:
Over the course of three days, Dutch and Germans will walk 330 km together on the Westerbork Pad from Herineringscentrum Westerbork to the Hollandsche Schouwburg. They are remembering the deportation of over 100,000 Jews from the Westerbork transit camp to the Auschwitz and Sobibor extermination camps, which began on July 15, 1942. These deportations, which claimed the lives of over 90% of the Jewish population in the Netherlands, were only possible due to the systematically stoked hatred of Jews and the indifference of the majority of the population. Today, when antisemitism is once again showing its ugly face after October 7, they are taking a stand for Jewish life and for Israel.
