Then I saw my friend looking around with a scared face. Just then I realized, holy crap! It is 11PM and we’re taking a walk through the central park. The same Edinburgh that's constantly in the grip of a heroine epidemic? The same Edinburgh where entire parts of it are like downtown Warsaw? And not the same Edinburgh that a man was recently decapitated at night in the middle of the cowgate and covered up by the police with a fabricated invisible bus? Lyrics: Start spreading the news, you're leaving today I want to be a part of it, New York, New York Your vagabond shoes, they are longing to stray And step around the heart of it, New York, New York I wanna wake up in that city, that doesn't sleep And find your king of the hill, top of the heap Your small town blues, they're melting away I'm gonna make a brand-new start of it, in old New York You always make it there, you make it anywhere It's up to you, New York, New York In New York, New York I wanna wake up in that city, that doesn't sleep And find I'm king of the hill, top of the list (you bet) A number one, king of the hill These little town blues, they have all melted away And I'm gonna make a brand-new start of it, right there in old New York You better believe it, folks You always make it there, you make it anywhere Come on, come through, New York, New Yorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk!

Lived in New York City for 30 years (Queens, Astoria) and to us city folks we never went to the Bronx unless we had to, it was like a foreign land lol

24 years Ravenswood here... ... lol yeah maybe the Bronx Zoo, once...and that's about it. Back then they scared us with the "south Bronx" . This looks a lot more creepy than back then.

When I was little, my parents used to take us shopping at 3rd Avenue and 149th st. For school and household items. That's where it was. I used to see cops in the area since people use the subway and buses to get to and from home or work or late night school. The other boroughs have a a spot like this too. I hope you had someone with you video the area.. 😮

The city that never sweeps. You don't see any of this in the NY tourism videos.

Genius level thinking here. "Tourists stick to tourist areas." Wow. Who would have known that. How is that unique to NYC? And this is just a rough area of an otherwise great city. There are very few rough spots. And yes, visitors do visit them. Deal with it. Not all of us are fragile.

This doesn’t show what “America” is really like. It’s based on one neighborhood in one city, which isn’t fair for a country as big and diverse as the U.S. it’s like saying Frankfurt represents all of Germany. If you’re from the Bronx, you know this is one of the tougher areas. But even in the Bronx, places like Riverdale show a completely different side. And outside of New York, states like Colorado and Washington have beautiful nature and landmarks. It’s frustrating how often people generalize and criticize Americans. Every country has its own problems, including poor areas, and the news mostly shows the bad stuff. As someone who’s traveled to 17 countries, I’ve noticed that Europeans, in particular, often insult Americans without really knowing us at the individual level. I was born and raised in the Bronx, and my family came to this country with nothing. But through hard work, we’ve built careers and bought homes in safe, beautiful neighborhoods. This kind of social mobility is harder to achieve in countries with racial/gender barriers, or economic systems. Not here to argue and say we are perfect but to have a discussion and educate.

I absolutely agree with this comment. Unfortunately a lot of the blame lays with the general media and their reporting, but that doesn't mean that people should not realise that they only report on the negative aspects of ilife. There are millions of hard working good people in this neighbourhood, America and the world, no matter the neighbourhood or state of a country.

I know there is lots of addiction problems, but i am guessing if you compare New York of now, to NY of the 70's and 80's, i bet it would is safer for the average person these days. It doesnt look as bad as some other places like Kensington Philidelphia. Id feel safe walking through here, its no worse than many areas of london.

Complex issues that's for sure . The city should go crazy with new bicycle lanes build , build , build . Bicycle lanes won't fix all the problems, like corruption, but bicycle lanes improve mental health so it's a good start .
