Like you said, Ollie, the score is weirdly unsettling. At the darkest moments of the film: its in a major key; its "inspirational" almost... It hit me at the end: the score is what Lou is hearing/feeling. Not being sociopaths - it bothers us, because its "wrong" and out-of-place. Kinda brilliant, in retrospect. The film's score is from Lou's ear and the film's camera lens _is_ Lou's eye.

In the script it said for him to not really blink a lot so Jake Gyllenhaal, when he was acting in the movie made sure he wasn’t blinking to make it extra more creepy

Thee best line in the movie is the very last one : " I'll never ask you to do anything I wouldn't do myself." A good companion film to this is Network 1976.

Stringers are real, but this was just a overdramatization of their work. The sociopathic take did a great job at enhancing and highlighting the uncomfortable boundaries of news gathering leaving you feel grimy at the end.

Its one of my favourites, great acting, filming, script and ambiance - hidden gem and cult classic. Another hidden gem is Johnny Deps The Brave.

I was an extra in an indie film once. I quickly lost interest in acting but Jake made it look awesome with his performance in this. Didn't like the ending but Jake k!lled this role.

(edit: I dont actually like videodrome - I just mean the story sounds like a cross between that and Cronenberg's other film Crash - people filming X rated stuff for views - going so far as to kill / [whatever] people whilst transmitting it over the news, for the ratings)
