These episodes ask an important question: How much freedom are you willing to give up for security? You don't need a real bogeyman to be afraid of your closet, you just need to be told there's one and you'll smother and suffocate yourself under your blankets to get away from it. Star Trek really was ahead of the curb, but DS9 hits close to home (deliberate word choice) even years after it first aired.

Feels so weird to say that I watched this movie for the first time 23 years ago 🤭 but through the years I kept revisiting it and it remains a beautiful film to me! Happy you enjoyed it as well. 🌸 That year had such beautiful movies, like *Amélie* (Jean-Pierre Jeunet) and *Monsoon Wedding* (Mira Nair) among many others. The latter movie also features Rajat Kapoor in a key supporting role (the actor who played Shalini’s uncle in Dil Chahta Hai). If you’d like to see other Aamir Khan films, I’d recommend *Dhobi Ghat* (Kiran Rao, 2010), *Earth* (Deepa Mehta, 1998), *Talaash* (Reema Kagti, 2012) and *Secret Superstar* (2017). For Saif Ali Khan, I love his slightly darker characters in *Omkara* (Vishal Bhardwaj, 2006), *Rangoon* (Vishal Bhardwaj, 2017), *Ek Hasina Thi* (Sriram Raghavan, 2004) and *Being Cyrus* (Homi Adajania, 2005). For more of Akshaye Khanna, I highly recommend *Gandhi My Father* (Feroz Abbas Khan, 2007). *Dil Se* (Mani Ratnam, 1998) is a great film to see for more of Preity Zinta, and also: *The Last Lear* (Rituparno Ghosh, 2007). Dimple Kapadia is a veteran in film acting and among her many great films I would recommend *Lekin* (Gulzar, 1990) and *Luck by Chance* (Zoya Akhtar, 2009). I haven’t seen a ton of Sonali Kulkarni, and I believe she has done some great films in the Marathi language, all of which I haven’t seen, but she was in *Well Done Abba* (Shyam Benegal, 2009) and I really liked that movie. A film that is like a sister movie spiritually to Dil Chahta Hai - and not just because it was directed by the sister of the director of Dil Chahta Hai - is *Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara* (Zoya Akhtar, 2011). Also about three friends coming of age and a conflict, but different from this one. A lovely movie in its own right and equally enjoyable.

Yeah, Stephen King doesn't always do horror. Another good King drama adaptation is Dolores Claiborne with Kathy Bates (yes, she also played "Annie Wilkes"!) Wil Wheaton ended up playing "Wesley Crusher" in some ST: TNG episodes.

You have to put yourself in the mind of sixty years ago. All the sci-fi movies at the time the aliens spoke English so it wasn't a red flag. All of them were shot in the foothills of California. None of these things would cause you to question whether they were on Earth or a different planet. The only way shows would fake being on a different planet was to have a purple backdrop and styrofoam rocks or film in the desert. Think of the original Star Trek series. They repeatedly told you they were on a different planet so you just accepted it. Anyway if you watch any of the others I hope you view from that lens. My take, watch the beginning of the second film and then skim to about halfway through it. You won't miss anything. I'm not spoiling anything by telling you that the first half is basically a repeat, nearly exactly, of the first one. But you kinda need to watch the second half to understand the third or you'll be lost for a time. Many people consider the third to be the best. It is very light and comical in tone for the first half of the movie. The fourth is my favorite of the sequels. None of them are as good as the first in my opinion. I'll just say it's a good watch. The fifth is pretty boring and you should only watch it so you can say you have since you invested the time in watching all the others and you want to know how it ends. By the fifth movie the execs had slashed their budget by more than half and they just wanted to milk it for all they could get. I think the new reimagining films are exciting and enjoyable. But they are shallow. The original films all had a subtext commenting on the time they were made. The first film about evolution and religion wanting to cover it up. The threat of nuclear war. The destructiveness of humans. The second more so of nuclear war (as I said, it was pretty much a repeat of the first) and the Vietnam war. The third delt with corrupt government. The fourth slavery. And finally the fifth with it's tones of segregation and the last humans fighting a future where apes and humans can live together in peace. Again, the newer ones are exciting and enjoyable. But I can't think of anything beyond it looking good. You leave the theater saying "That was so cool when they were riding over the bridge." They are straight forward and you don't have anything to chew on afterwards. Anyway, that's my critique of the films.

Check out Mandy Patinkin (Montoya) singing Finishing the Hat. He was an excellent musical theatre actor. The song is from the musical Sunday in the Park with George. Artist George Seurat is singing about creating art and the isolation he experiences. The Frenchman painted a huge piece with many people wearing bonnets and top hats. It is hanging in the Art Institute of Chicago. It took him 2 years to complete The set on the stage represents the painting which Mandy is creating. Here is the link to Mandy’s performance kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqbGeGhrpct2g7Msi=hUgGSnjdBSUPIUut

Funfact limbo originated in my country Trinidad and Tobago (I and from Trinida) in the 1800s from the African slaves and was directly related to life on a slave ship so it's ironic that the white people are doing it in this particular movie that deals with segregation. We still practice it here today in it's traditional form and you see it mainly around Carinval and Tobago Heritage Festival they also still do it witht the limbo stick lit on fire.

The sound weapons aren't in the book, so don't expect to see them. My personal opinion Lynchs version was pretty much ruined by the studio you can get longer cuts, i don't mind the time compression aspect and VOICE overs. Back then of course many people had not read the book so for a theatrical release they added an inner monologue so people could better understand. I do like the new versions but if i want a Dune fix i always go back to 1984.

I am writing this after watching the melora reaction for the second times. I am doing my masters in Assistive technology and in one of my discussion posts for class, I managed to bring this ep in. I point out bashir tries to “cure” her and she actually lets him, the problem being she never can go back to what she was let alone home but this is my best point, even if she could return, why should she be “cured” of a natural thing

So interesting fact. By this point in the series, After Beriel was dead... The writers wanted Kira in a new relationship and were SERIOUSLY pushing for it to be Dukut. It was Nana Visitor herself you put a stop to it. She described it as "it would be like Anne Frank falling for Hitler, it was out of character and disgusting". So that's why we got Shakaar because she refused to go forward with being any friendlier to Dukut unless romance was off the table.

"Crossfire" was the first _DS9_ episode I saw. I'd been a _TNG_ fan for years, but _DS9_ always looked too different for me (hey, I was eleven when it debuted). I finally got these two episodes on VHS for my fifteenth birthday so _had_ to give the show a go. Maybe it was because I was at "that age" when I had crushes on girls way out of my league, but I really identified with Odo. I quickly realised what I'd been missing and became a massive _DS9_ fan.
