I know this is a old video but just in case people are still watching this to find out about the Reverb G2, there has been a updated Reverb G2 called the G2V2 (version 2), it has a new cable with a power button on the inline power box, this new cable fixes the connection problems with X570 motherboards for AMD CPUs, it also has a new facial interface with a spacer, when you remover the spacer, it gets the lenses real close to your eyes thus increasing the lenses sweet spot and FOV. As for controller tracking, they supposedly improved that too, I know I have no real problems with tracking while playing regular VR games, just the controllers are less than stellar in feel, balance with no capacitive touch on the buttons. As mentioned, you need a pretty beefy computer to run this thing, at 100% steamVR resolution, it sets the resolution to 3160 x 3092 (if I remember), you can get better performance in your sims by turning down the SteamVR resolution to 70% and it still looks really good in the headset. :) I love my G2V2, the clarity and intensity of the visuals are amazing and the audio is also very good, my Valve Index has been sitting in the corner collecting dust since I got my G2V2.

Good video Crash thanks. will stick to my G1 & 3090. As for the multiple screen problem you have. it can be solved in device manager --> display adapter --> virtual display adapter - Disable. do not uninstall as it re installs. it may also be hidden so use --view show hidden option. can only be disabled when headset attached. hopefully it will help. and may cure you start up issue.

Hi, nice review. I can confirm your info, very nice t wear on head, very good sound and (It's my first VR ever) the screen is fantastic ! clear. BUT ... the driving of my rFactor 2 now with the VR G2 since 11 days is awsome ! new. another sim racing world. for me. It feels so sick to sit IN the car, drive on the track and look in to the next corners and to the other cars.

I have the Reverb G2 V2.0 version, it works really well for sim racing. I run it with rtx 3070 with and newer intel processor. WMR and Steam VR start up together now, making it pretty easy to get in. I do experience crashes from time to time, but I think it is mainly Steam VR's fault. If you wanna play VR outside of sims, I think you're better served with the all-in-one Quest 2. Playing with a cable and needing to be tethered to the PC is such a pain.

Do you know that all X570 boards has an issue with USB disconnecting. A Bios update only came out just over a week ago. I would say: if you have already a lighthouse system, you can make a mixed setup, the G2 with for example the Index controllers and that eliminate one of the biggest issues of the G2 for roomscale. I also get that way now... but I'm even more crazy, because is bought the lighthouse stuff only to use it with the G2 now. Cost me much more than the G2 itself. But i also must say, that i come from Oculus and want to go the lighthouse way in the future, maybe with an Index 2. So it makes more sense to get that lighthouse stuff yet.

32:28 - I have to make a correction to your investigations about having issues getting the HP Reverb G2 started. First of all the USB issue you are experiencing are actually issues from your AMD Mainboard and it will be fixed with AGESA 1.2.0.2 - The second major issue you are talking about that you have to unplug monitors to start the HP Reverb G2 is a limitiation in the Nvidia driver. At the moment Nvidia is allowing to use max. 4 displays at the same time. Since you are running a triple screen + the hp reverb g2 at the same time it detects at least 5 displays at the same time so the Nvidia driver is forcing you to at least unplug 1 monitor to run the 2 extra screens in your heasdet. You should be able to run all USB Ports of your Mainboard with the G2 just fine after updating to the latest AGESA version via a BIOS update. The only way to avoid the driver limitation of nvidia to run more than 4 displays at the same is by buying a nvidia quadro GPU or switch to a AMD GPU. I had to unplug at least 1 monitor so that the nvidia driver would let me run my g2 with a 2070 super. I switched to a 6900XT two days ago and now i can run my triple + headset just fine. All I need to wait for is the BIOS update to get all my USB Ports on my board fixed.
@RTAMOTORSPORTS
@RTAMOTORSPORTS 3 жыл бұрын
I've been on AGESA 1.2.0.0 and it looks like my motherboard (asus x570 tuf ) board but it looks like they just rolled a bios update only for 1.2.0.1. looks like I'll have to wait. But thanks for the heads up! The Zotac 3090 only has 4 display output. When in vr it made me literally unplug all displays then reconnect after connecting the headset. But afterwards I can run the triples and the headset. But only after disconnecting all other monitors first. It just seems really silly to have these issues when I never encountered anything like this with any other headset I tried.

@@RTAMOTORSPORTS Yes, the lighthouses are required for this method and you also need a receiver connected to your pc to track the controllers as well and that could be either and index or vive hmd or you could use 2 steam controller dongles and with a few tweaks you'll be good to go!

Not at all, but depending on how much motion your rig has you may need to look into motion compensation software. In my 3dof it works in such a way that the driver is the pivot point, so the amount of motion isn't that great from center. But In larger 6dof rigs you may have to counter it.

I wear bifocals irl, for sim racing I wear drugstore reading glasses as they give a focal length that works well with triple monitors. What's the consensus for VR? The difficulty you had getting the the G2 to even play nice concerns me. I had enough of that mess with the original Rift with the sensors only working if the planets were aligned just right that particular day. I simrace with my Odyssey and I love how it allows me to pretty much just put it on and go. No muss or fuss. I also have a Quest 2 that I do general VR with. I simraced with it a few times and the display is definitely a step up from the Odyssey, but the experience is not quite as seamless (need to start up Oculus Link first and what not). I was thinking a G2 would get me the put-it-on-and-go experience the Odyssey gives me while giving me the improved visual experience that the Quest 2 does, but now I'm not so sure. I was looking to get the G2 to replace the Odyssey as my dedicated simracing VR headset, but now I think I might just get another Quest 2. The advantage of not having to mess around with just getting the damn thing to work is not to be understated. Plus it's way cheaper too. Sure the G2's displays might be better than the Q2, but I really value ease-of-use and from what I can tell the G2's visuals are not *that* much better.

Bought one, returned 2 days later. Sweet spot the size of a half dollar, all text outside that are very blurry. Rift S more consistent in clarity across the screen. Vibration on controllers is loud and feels cheap not good at all. Bit of pressure point on my temple's not to bad but Rift S much more comfort. The cable is thick and very grippy so will pull on you. When you first start up a lot of ghosting effects until it heats up, and screen door until it warms up. 10 mins or so then gone. If you want to surf the web you can not scroll with the controllers. You will have to use a mouse as well. Wanna type in search bar, your gonna need to lift up headset and use physical keyboard. Tried playing Pavlov you can not use 2 hands on weapons. Right hand will grip but left hand does not grip the weapon. So I'm guessing custom mapping is needed. Have heard this is the case on many other games. Cant hit anything with only 1 hand on a machinegun. God rays are very noticeable on the G2 V2, my Rift S never really noticed them. I purchased on sale for 499 but still not worth that. maybe $350. In games the sweet spot is not as bad, you really don't see it much but, on anything else you can only read 2 words and then left and right of those 2 words are blurry and the next ones very blurry. I wanted to love this but I'm going back to Rift S. Controllers hit when reloading weapons. I really believe the Rift S or Quest 2 are much better at software, easy of use, you can just play and even the screens have much bigger sweet spot. I think if you are sim racing its a great choice the sweet spot not as bad. Sim flying your gonna have to turn your head a lot to see the gauges clearly. I'd wait. The only thing it has going for it is sound and the very small sweet spot. Just my experience. Imma keep my rift s until something better comes along.

The cable clip from the CV1 works great. That’s what I use. Fantastic review man. Switched from a CV1 to the G2 back in December. I have to say it was a serious struggle dealing with WMR. I had major issue with tracking in my room that’s mostly lit with back lighting. I finally got it stable and reliable by using a studio light above my monitor. WMR is still a nightmare though, it makes my PC do weird things from time to time. MS just doesn’t really care about it and it shows. Hopefully MSFS2020 will help but I really wish it would could just be a SteamVR platform. The resolution and picture is fantastic but I’m struggling with a 8700k and 2080ti. I have most of the major VR headsets. The most recent being the Reverb G2 (never had the G1). I've started a new job and have moved so have only used it a handful of times, but have not had any connections issues. In running out on an Intel machine so not sure if it might have something to do the AMD's USB issue, which might be fixed by a recent bios update. My next comment isn't specific to you, more a general comment, but I think some or many connection issues may have to do with people getting budget motherboards I'm sure people with premium motherboard have issues too, I just think cheap boards exacerbate the issue. Also when I moved to building ITX machines I send to have greater success with connecting and ringing extensions on my headsets. The shorter traces I beloved help with signal integrity. For sim racing/flying the Reverb G2 is excellent for to the resolution, colors and black levels. My Valve Index for just about everything else that requires tracking. Having tracking issues and glitches in games gets annoying.

I don't know if AC uses DLSS or not -- but if it does, that could explain why you got significantly 'choppier' gameply when you first loaded it up. Something about caching textures in the RAM takes a significant performance hit up front -- and then it optimizes itself.

Interesting review. Not sure I agree with all of it though especially the bit about the sweet spot. I think it just further demonstrates how subjective an experience the G2 is compared to almost all other headsets. But anyway, I’ve had my G2 two weeks now. So far, no problems and absolutely love it. Hope it continues!

Nah, you will need to lower your graphic settings or resolution because RTX 2080 is not that powerful today to render the 2160 x 2160 with 90HZ. There's no point in switching to G2 unless you have a powerful enough GPU. I recommend leaving it as is or buying a better GPU that will handle the resolution of G2. I say this because I owned a Rift S and a G2 with an RTX 2080 graphics card, but I have now upgraded to an RX 6950 XT. With a new graphics card, the experience is much better, and everything is better.

Thanks for the review Crash. I got a G2 to try as a first VR headset after reading other reviews. I, unfortunately, was disappointed for one major reason. The off-center focus. The sweet spot on this headset is tiny. I had to move my head to get clear focus for even small off-center angles. I found that this and the limited FOV took away from the immersion. That said, the sweet spot is very clear so see your braking points clearly from far away, I did not have any hardware issues connecting to my PC either. I also wear glasses and I had issues getting comfortable as the width of the faceplate barely squeezes over my frame. I was wondering what you think of the Pimax 5 as far as the sweet spot, FOV, and overall comfort vs the G2 for sim racing.
@RTAMOTORSPORTS

The Problem is that most laptop users, even with powerful machines, do not have a display port or a display port mini. I did not know this and tried in vain two Hp reverb G2. Very frustrating. This problem is seldom communicated. HP has created a HP Reverb G 2.2 with an better cable than those for the G2.1. But in Germany you get with any notice the old version, that will not work with many computers that have no display port 1.3. The headset might be very good, but it does not work with many computers and the web is full of stories from frustrated users. I do not know if it is more the problem of those who produce expensive gaming laptops or the problem of those who build like HP headsets without communicating those problems. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us. Best regards Alfons

Pretty sure the G2 doesn't have a knob in the back to "cinch" it down because it flips up instead. So you shouldn't need to cinch it-- you leave it at, flip the display up, press it against your face, then pull the strap down over the back of your head.

Too bad for the less then stellar experience. I had mine for a while now and it's always been a pure plug and play operation. I DID however disable the virtual monitors beforehand in the Windows Registry. Also, there is a specific order for connecting the headset to your PC (most importantly, power comes last). Tracking is meh, but I use this mostly for space sims. All in all, if you get a discount on Amazon, a great headset. Intel I9 10900K, Asus Z490-G, Nvidia RTX 3060Ti.

very good question, and it takes muscle memory. i was lucky that my real car is a 6 speed stick, (2014 focus ST) i did a little upgrading so its makin 280ish wheel horse from its turbo 2 liter but its my daily commuter. if i gunned it with you in it you wouldnt be scared or WOWed but forsure everyone smiles from the torque ~360 lb-ft wheel. so its just fun and gets good milage when u take the boost from 23 to 6psi for eco mode. now the hand brake took some time, but is all about positioning. i have a 4k 55 inch TV as my moniter then a Rift S for racing with maybe 5000-6000 invested into the rig ( i dont have amazing stuff i just overpaid for alot of stuff being impatient and bought 8 fanatec wheels :/) so its all fana clubsport with aftermarket handbrake all in a motionless chassis. not even a bass shaker for vibration. the only thing i did right is built a pc for around 3000 that will run for a long time. but the rig itself would be laughed at. chassis built for a logitec G29 my first wheel, with holes i drilled in everything to fit all the fanatec stuff on it, so it flexes everywhere, shifting the fana shifter flexes the shifter mount. anyhow once you are in VR and set the view correct you can legit get out of the car with the headset on, essentially blind, look at it like you have never seen a virtual car, like u can see how big it is compared to you with 100% accuracy. and then walking back into the car i grab the seat of the virtual car, and sure enough my real seat is there, so i stand on it grab the wheel and your rig will match up with the virtual car almost perfect. then the more you use it the easier it is. buttons on the other hand, i mess up alot on those crazy fanatec formula wheels with like 100 functions and all the encoders. but the simpler bmw GT2 wheel or mclaren gt3 / universal hub with any rim like, they only have maybe 12 button functions for the most part not including the 7-way funky switch, The way i make the buttons work is i make the top right DRS the top left most button ERS, middle top Change electric mode, the bottom two buttons change views and look behind (even know u use the cars mirrors i like to see the car in 3rd person sometimes for just viewing) then the funky switch, if you twist it right that puts TC up twist left Trac control goes down or off. then i have 4 buttons left 2 on each side near the bottom, i made the right side buttons do lights on the top button and high beams on lower, and the left side brake Bias. so one button for forward% bias the other for rear bias%. and then lastly there is two middle buttons that are very hard to reach and i made those ABS up or down. since i rarely mess with ABS levels. i care more about brake bias. set your wheel up like how i did, but in your own way. play on your TV for a few hotlaps in some cars that utilize all the functions, like LMP cars. personally i did nurburgring since it gets intense then bam a straight away or a break to mess with buttons, then back into the action and then u get another flat zone. once i was good with my TV i knew what each button does. like if you pointed to one ide say "oh that is the DRS button, or look back button. ect. then i went into VR and i was perfect, rare to misclick. except when i use the fanatec Formula V2 with the podium paddle modual on it. it just has too many functions. If i remeber correctly it has 107 differnt actions. be it a twist, flipping a switch, push a button, spin those weird ring encoders build into the grips or the like 20 button buttons on it and the funky switch with 7 actions alone. that f1 wheel i do my tuning before the race, and just have a few basic things. DRS ERS MGU-K delivery BBias and then the recovery for the battery %, and then lights since it works for LMP1 and Formula, but i have like 80 functions not in use. ide have to really really drive alot of formula cars ect to get used to it. so i stick to streeet, GT3 and simpler cars like that, some wheels just have too many buttons to be blind using it, the only way real F1 drivers get it done is they can see the wheel haha. sorry to talk your ear off, that is just my experience with VR and how it is being "blind". u adapt surprisingly fast or just tune in pits before a race or hot lap
