I think Nightheart is interesting, I like a cat that’s just really angry because he felt like he didn’t have a proper family growing up and got forced into a role he didn’t want to be in. But sparkpelt was doing her best dealing with the losses she went through and Nightheart remains uncaring because he feels that maybe she didn’t try hard enough, even when she did. I just enjoy Nightheart being an angsty little guy, but sparkpelt does not deserve this treatment

True! It's a very good plot point for warrior cats, I just feel like as he aged he shoulda given Sparkpelt a lil more slack yknow,, but I hear he's improving in the newest book which is nice

I think its possible for both, Sparkpelt tried her best but Nightheart still didn't receive the care he needed and still feels hurt. No ones really in the wrong for those things theyre both just hurt by circumstances that werent in their control but Nightheart wants to blame someone so he blames her which is wrong but understandable.

​@@sagebear9739 I think people tend to forget that Flamepaw also had to grow up separated of his mom and sister not just at any random time but during the lowest point of Thunderclan since arguably ever. It might not have been as bad if it was during a time of stability like before but even now Thunderclan is barely healing It's also a big part as to why he cant really understand the pride when it comes to the Firekin and the Clan, he only has stories to go off at best because what he's experienced just hasnt been the case

I love NightHeart but I’ll be the first to admit he was the definition of The worlds smallest violin 😂 Thankfully he’s gotten a lot better, he really matured in Shadow

agreed, he definitely was way too self-centered and angry but (spoilers for third book) honestly, i hated him so much for it, but its finally becoming forgivable, because in the last few pages of his chapters he actually ACKNOWLEDGED how self-centered he was and wanted to change, plus despite still getting angry, hes making attempts to control it. hes like a broody teeny finally growing up, and im here for it

Same tbh and before all the Sparkpelt defenders and Nightheart haters rush in here I’d just like to say that obviously he’s not gonna be likable at the very start, It’s just how character development works. Im sure that Nightheart will mature more as A Starless Clan goes on and with Sunbeam, a relatively more mature and understanding cat by his side, he’ll surely be more likable (Take this with a giant grain of salt but he’s pretty promising so far)

Eh it's normal for teenagers to be rebellious, hopefully your parents are understanding of that. The best bit of advice I can give to anyone of any age is to just treat others how you want to be treated. It's the easiest way to be kind, in my opinion.

Considering Nightheart is still a young cat himself, it makes sense that he would lash out at his mother for feeling like she “didn’t try hard enough” to bond with him while growing up, failing to realize what Sparkpelt went through and why it was so difficult for her to bond with him. This is normal for a lot of kids and teenagers, for they often think of themselves first and don’t really see reasons to the other side. But don’t worry, most of them grow out of this as they began to mature and become more understanding of someone’s faults or issues. This is also seen in Nightheart when he begins to realize just how self-centered he is. Personal growth is important, and will come to you if you allow it.

Crookedstar had it worse yes but you were wrong abt nightheart , he had expectations that were way beyond any average warriors reach, and if he didn’t do more than enough, he was treated harshly. He wanted to change his name so he didn’t have to be seen as Firestar and not his own self, but his fur being a different color was just an extra reason to change it, not the ONLY reason. He was also neglected as a kit I think. Even though she was bearing the loss of her kits, she can’t just forget about the living one. Think about Sasha. She grieved for her dead mate and kit, Tadpole, but she still cared for Hawk and Moth enough until she could find a new alternative. Sparkpelt just ditched him the moment they died - acted like she hadn’t had a kit at all

I haven't read ASC, but I can understand NightHeart's feelings, but at the same time, he should understand why SparkPelt didn't care him or FinchFlight as kits in the first place, considering that her grief was the reason behind her neglect. Not to mention, that according to the Warriors wiki, after eventually getting over her grief, SparkPelt tried to make up for lost time with her kits.

Thats not how real life works Yes spark was suffering and yes she had every right to feel how she did but that doesn’t disvalue her kits being upset she wasn’t there for them It’s what I like to call a situation where no one is the bad guy Sparkpelt was suffering from loosing her mate and one of her kits and this effected her so badly that it took until her kits where apprentices for her to actually be able to get to know them (she pretty much had post pardom depression) On the other side Nightheart has every right to feel bitter that his mother was never there for him even when he needed her and left him and his sister to be raised by someone else plus Nightheart also had to deal with being compared to his Grandfather so much that he felt incapable of having his own personality and interests (or at least without being compared) all because Spark decided to name him after Firestar I’m not saying sparks in the wrong for giving that name but it’s another reason Night is likely upset with her No one’s in the wrong not Spark not Night Spark has a right grieve and try to make up for lost time with her kits and Night has a right to not want a relationship with her both are victims

I wasn't saying that NightHeart's feelings weren't valid, but people have been talking about how he was being melodramatic, even to the point where he's ignorant to the fact that grief was what caused her to neglect her kits (hence the very video we're commenting on). Again, I agree that he has the right to feel sad about the way SparkPelt treated him and his sister because his feelings are no less valid than SparkPelt's. Another thing, just saying, but as someone who values forgiveness, I think he should give SparkPelt a chance and put the past behind him. Not saying that he should invalidate his feelings because as I said twice in this comment, his feelings are valid, I'm saying that accept the fact that SparkPelt wasn't there for him, and move on from it because you can't control the past, but you can control how the past affects the present, and it seems that plenty of people have forgotten the true meaning of forgiveness.

I mean, the worst thing is though that the time Sparkpelt was unable to care for her kits was in such a brief moment that her children would have been barely able to even remember he being distant, and she was *there* for them the grand majority of her children's lives. It's mostly just that his pov seemingly treats him like he is in the right ultimately and effectively going against the canon they themselves estabilished.

hi ummm i went through a lot of similar shit that Nightheart did. Nightheart does have trauma. He had a mother with severe depression, no father, and to a child this feels like abandonment. His reactions to his trauma is very justified. Just because Sparkpelt has trauma too, doesn’t make his feelings any less valid. My mom had severe depression and my parents weren’t in love for like my whole life (they stayed married tho) and my mother doesn’t respect my feelings (I am transmasculine, she flat out called my new name weird)

Yes Nightheart's situation sucks, coming from someone who also grew up with a depressed mother, but the way he treats her in relation to her parenting isn't justified. You can't act like he was the primary victim of her depression and exile. He is allowed to be angry and upset even if it's not completely logical, trauma isn't logical and that's ok, but he has no right to take it out on her. Also please note I'm only defending her pre-Sky, yes the way she reacted to Nightheart's name change was shitty, I'm talking about the way he treats her in River

But Sparkpelt's neglect only lasted for like a moon before she eventually found the strenght to mother her kits. Nightheart makes it seems like she abandonned him for his whole kithood when it's really not true
