It's actually a big problem as it jacks up prices for everyone and the new prices becomes the norm; economies work best when they are left as natural as possible without intervention, if you keep artificially support them, more stores will spring up and the competition will become greater as well. Always keep in mind that you're not a walking charity, if they depend so much on a few overpaying tourists it's not a sustainable business and they must change their ways. It's also a big problem for those tourists that do not have extra money.

10:24 that little girl works very hard. I was in Cambodia, extremely sick last year. She came to me at a restaurant on a street about 15 minutes walk from where you were wanting to sell a book, I explained I was too sick to read and asked her to come back the next day. She did not push me to buy, she came back the next day and sold the book to me. The little girl is her sister, her mother moves around with her selling as well. They seem to be good, genuine people unlike many of the young children on the streets in Phnom Penh now. I am glad you bought from her, she deserves kindness.

The phone was probably worth about 6 months rent for the cleaner. They have been through so much and they are such good people. My favourite country by far

My brother loves Cambodia, and travels there, from Australia, every year. He has made so many friends there, that he no longer books a hotel, he stays with born and bred Cambodians. He also gets his dental care there, because is really cheap. He said the hospital he went to for dental care, was so clean, they make everyone wear disposable booties, that’s how clean and fussy they are. He usually helps native Cambodians pay for their medical needs, in exchange for their hospitality of letting him stay in their homes. He says they are very kind and loving people, cooking for him and making him feel really welcome. Since the exchange rate is so good, it really doesn’t cost much to make a huge difference to someone’s life, by helping them with their medical expenses.

I had a awesome time at the riverside. Went to the International Casino along there before it burnt down. I piloted one of those boats a up the Mekong to a little island and worked in a Silk factory well it was more of a shed lol. At the 33.30 mark of the video you can see a large building on the over side of the river with all the lights on the roof. It's Cambodia's biggest motel. It's where rich and famous from Hollywood stay. We got told Angelina Jolie stayed there when went to Cambodia to adopt her son Maddox.

During 2 years of my travels, nothing happened to me except in Cambodia: my iPhone 15 Max Pro was stolen (local savages tore it out of my hands and left on a motorbike), they replaced dollars in a massage salon with counterfeit ones, which they put in a locked cabinet. My subscribers also had their money stolen and changed many times. I think it isn't worth going to Cambodia - let the savages first learn to live in a civilized world!
@NoEvidenceForGodАй бұрын
I hate to be that guy but these things happen in literally every country in the world. Sorry that happened to you but a "wrong time wrong place" moment shouldn't influence whether others should travel a country. It could determine specific streets or neighbourhoods to avoid if its a high risk area, but not a WHOLE country. If Cambodia was like Syria or North Korea, then I'd agree with you but it's not. Cambodia is a beautiful place and deserves more tourism, not less. Maybe keep your phone hidden next time? *sips sugar cane juice*

38:20 THE Geckos... I live in Queensland Australia; we have geckos in abundance. Our native geckos are a dark motley type of colour, whereas we also have these white, almost clear skinned geckos that are actually an introduced pest. The Asian geckos almost wiped out our entire native population many years ago. The Asian variety also outbreed our natives, populating small areas faster and obviously, compete or just take over the available food, anywhere lights are on routinely at night that attract flying insects is where you'll find them in Queensland. I'm happy to say although not often but more and more so over the past five years or so I have seen our native geckos romping around the outside of houses at night. it's sad that a lot of Queenslanders are not familiar with the native variety and only know the white ones. The first time my adult daughter saw one a few years ago, she freaked out and thought she discovered a rare or defective specimen.... ha ha... no darling... that's the local.... the rest are from out-of-town ha ha

I left the country back in 1979 after I had to live through the genocide under Pol Pot killing madness. Most of my family members did not survive as we were forced to move out of the Phnom Penh City in 1975 to work in the rice fields. I've returned to visit my sole surviving sister every year for the last ten years since my retirement from the US to heal the past. It's very safe to visit Cambodia now as the country has come a long way since the prolonged civil war was officially ended upruptly in 1998. Be mindful of your surroundings . Be kind whenever possible. It's always possible as life is short to do the things we don't love doing. Happy and safe travels from a genocide survivor ✌️
