For house flies: i set up a glad fly strip underneath a regular LED light and I caught almost all of them in one night. I bet I caught 100 of them. The thing I've noticed about fruit flies:: they don't seem to be as attracted to light as house flies are. Edit: was that the only light on in the house? Flying insects will go to the brightest light source. For eg: if you had a streetlight shining through your kitchen window, the bugs will go there, not the trap.

Fill a glass or tin or bowl with water, add a spoon or two of (wine-)vinegar and 3 drops of dish liquid. Fruit flies are attracted by the vinegar, and they dive in to drink it. The dish liquid though detroys the surface tension of the water/vinegar and they cannot stay/walk on the water as they normally are able to, and every fruit fly will drown.

Correct, fruit gives off compounds that attract fruit flys, they too are not attracted by light. If anything, this device will increase the amount of moths and bugs that are attracted by light. It doesn’t have a very big sticky pad so will be ineffective after a short time and prove very expensive to keep buying refills. A blue light electric bar trap is far more effective.

I use bird feeders, and I picked up a BIG bag of seed, kept it in my kitchen, and eventually "something" in the seeds hatched and came out, flying around. It drove me nuts trying to figure out where those things were coming from. What I found that worked was a LIBA zapper thingy. It's a UV light, with a charged grid on it (don't touch it, it will light you up.... ask me how I know this). They're like an indoor version of a Bug Zapper for your yard.
