The DRY side of every island has high fire danger in the summer, it's a desert. The rain forests and waterfalls in lush tropical rainforests are on the WET side of the island. It started when some poles/transformers went down, pinning a worker. Sparks fly, grass is dry in a drougt, hurricane winds that knocked the powerlines down created a perfect firestorm condition. It's happened before, just not these extreme conditions all at once. My friend in Kula her son is HFD, and the power company were stopping LOOTERS and trying to tell people to stay away from the live pwerlines on the ground. You touch, you dead. The STUPIDITY of some people in the times of disaster cause the deaths of others. Looky loos blocking egress. So sad I have so many memories of Old Lahaina, Old Sea Wall, Kimo's Ono, da Blue Max. Before it became a Lahainalunaland open air T-shirt mall. The replacement city will never replace the original. Even if they rebuilt the Pioneer Inn from original drawings, if they exist. The new stairs won't creek, the walls won't speek, and the room over the bar sure as sheet won't be $18. ever again.

There were already some small brush fires in the area, but then Hurricane Dora hundreds of miles to the south sent high winds that "fanned" the flames and caused the fire to spread rapidly. This is like if you build a campfire and you "blow" your breath on the fire to help it get started faster. So it was really the strong winds from the hurricane that made it possible...

@repentandbelieveinJesusChrist4 Jesus is not the Sovereign Almighty God The Father. He is The Only begotten Son of His God and Father. Like wise God can't exist as his own father and son. The Bible does not say Jesus is the Father nor God Almighty is the Only begotten Son. NIV was transliterated by the commission of 3 so-called homosexuals 2 men and a female. Abominations is what the three were! So it is best not to falsey quote the Word of God Almighty. In James he tell us it is best to keep our mouths shut if we do not know what we are talking about especially the things concerning God and Lord Jesus. A fool is counted wise that holds their tongue. The reason is the are willing to listen to the instructions of God and perhaps turn away from their transgressions against our Creator and King. Keep your non-existent holy ghost and rapture in the dumb theology books. The Wicked better kiss the King's feet and make Peace with Him lest they be destroyed body and soul. For so the wicked be cast in utter darkness where the worm never dies and the 🔥 is never quenched. Lord Jesus didn't pander to our sin! He told the Only absolute Truth and very sternly and firmly. Yes he is gentle but telling repent just to repent is not going to save their souls. Most people doesn't what to repents means in the world today. The Wicked will continue to be so here in Earth till wipe out by 🔥. That is the Real Truth after the fact of them being Judged for their evil works.

@@coleengoodell7523 lived in an old rehabbed nearly 100 year old building. The old man living underneath me in the matchstick apartments was a pyromaniac yet management did nothing(when I finally managed to move out finally things revealed the manager and owners drug addicts partying with the tenants). That neighbor set the apartment on fire as his habit and disconnected his smoke alarm, then runs away for a few days. Am above him, never heard his smoke alarms as he burned all kinds of things often but could smell through the shared vent system. One night about 2am, am smelling smoke, not hearing any alarms so went down to the floor under me. Inside hallway alarms blaring until I was near deaf and emergency safety lights flash flashing and some tenants were waking up, trying to figure out in the loudness, lights and firemen and the tenants asking me what was going on. Ended up screaming shirt words hear and there. Not everyone woke up of about twenty tenants in that floor. Most being senior citizens were sound asleep, don't think too many were hard of hearing. Fortunately, everything that night worked out ok and everyone was safe. But it was a very close call. The next day, the tenants that slept through it all were very surprised as us other tenants described the situation and were puzzled, how most of the other tenants slept through. Outside there windows were six fire trucks with ladders and there red lights flashing like crazy. And, many slept through it all. Several tenants on the other floors came down to check as they had been awakened by the lights and noise, yet again on the other floors, many were sound asleep.

What can you say about something like this fire. I do agree something went terribly wrong with this. These people didn't get the warnings they needed to get out with their lives and their animals. Someone is going to pay for this. I'm with this reporter I can't hold back the tears for all these people and the animals that died because of this cities horrible way of handling this. Such a beautiful place now in ruins. 😢 God bless these people for their loss of family and property. I pray they can rebuild and get the help they need.

@@jaskamon6127 The thing is you got out with your life and your pets. I think many of these people stayed behind because they couldn't take their pets. I would do the same thing if I couldn't take my dog and cats. Their our friends and I could never forgive myself for leaving them. Hope you're doing okay and getting the help you need when something like this happens. ♥️

You going to get vigilantes together and hurt someone you'd like to scapegoat? How about the winter rain; it caused more grass growth, the grass ALWAYS dries out in summer and is a fire risk same as in the Northwest USA.

@@erickborling1302 Did you lose a sister or brother a mom or dad. Did you lose your pets you've had for years. Think about this and then think how you would feel when you could have gotten out with your life and your precious animals who were burned alive. You're off base with the vigilante thing but who knows how these people feel after this. Did you listen to the news about the reporters saying these people needed more warnings. Go after them because this is where I got my information and from the people in the interviews. I mean people on vacation in this city didn't get any warnings. Someone is responsible for all this like city officials who left to save themselves and heck with everyone else.

It's still gonna take another week for those FEMA pods to arrive. I doubt it will be enough, so I bet they could use some tents and camping supplies donated. The community is tight knit, so many people are likely to share the amenities inside their pods with those camping. The saddest part of the lives lost is that Lahaina had a large Native Hawaiian population, especially among their elders, who are the keepers and teachers of their language, customs and traditions. They are cherished as much as their children. My condolences to those who have suffered so much loss.
