"Hospital at Home" is a great help for patients. I live in Nevada, and I have seen advertisements for patients to see a doctor or practitioner at home. Yes, it is a return to the past, but now, practitioners are able to use all the modern technologies, and then the patient can also have a "face to face" with the physician by computer.

At least if you're crashing at a hospital, they take you in immediately. One guy can't replace all the resources a hospital can provide. First of all, it's not a "home hospital system." It's call community paramedicine. Look at the badge on the paramedic's shirt, it says "Community Paramedic." I am a Paramedic that works for a hospital system. What was shown in the piece was a SCHEDULED visit for a chronic but stable patient. If you have a medical emergency or feel that your condition has become unstable, you're free to call 911 for an EMS unit that will respond to your home with the intention of transporting you to the ER where obviously a physician will see you. Community paramedicine is a only good for specific patients as it was mentioned in the piece. These paths of care have been tested and vetted on hundreds, if not thousands of types of patients. Do you think insurance companies or the EMS systems in these states would approve or offer to pay for these types of services because they don't work? Clearly they do. Hospital systems are literally going broke and shutting their doors because they can't get reimbursed for services. Medicare is telling them to find better ways to deliver care. And to keep people with chronic conditions in their homes. How do you think that's going to get done? What are your ideas?

I would like to see the for-profit entities that design our medical systems invest in more emergency space and personnel. If a patient is sick enough to be admitted to the hospital, then the hospital is where they should be. What happens to the patient who codes, to the patient whose surgical site hemorrhages? If there are enough staff on hand to help ED patients, then they shouldn't have a reason to harass the admin people. Sending patients home so that admin people aren't harassed is not the answer.

I said this years ago about having moble health care unit's with a nurse that goes to the patient home to give medical care and I said the same thing about having a emt units, that can respond to a call before the ambulance can to stablelize the patient first. Now we have fire units that do this now. 😮
