Great article about ATC's. I miss my late husband. He started as a US Army, Air Traffic Controller.. And upon his leaving. He went to work for the FAA. As an,, Air Traffic Controller. Aunt worked out in Leesburg, Virginia. At the flight control center, I guess? I was never in the building myself. And he lost his job due to Ronnie Reagan. He was really bummed out over that. They claim to need more controllers now. What if mandatory retirement age was moved from 56 to 60 with an accuracy/psychological test required at 56? Sure, some people would choose to retire, but some would stay. And a sharp 58 year old with years of experience is better than a new grad or one in the 3 year on the job training program. It isn't a permanent solution, but for a critical need, would it help if you could retain 100 or 500 controllers? In my field there are people who lose physical or mental competence at 45 and others who are fully able at 70. Why a number rather than a skill level?
