It's a legislative (state) Constitutional amendment that "eliminates Constitutional provision allowing involuntary servitude for incarcerated persons." Unbelievable, we'll be voting to eliminate forced labor in CA in 2024? I'm hoping to fund a way to bring the issue forth to the reparations discussion, cuz those folks, the incarcerated people forced to work for token wages, are owed restitution. And we can find them and their families, too. We keep good records of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people here in CA ... and that was and is something for which we can righteously and rightfully pay restitution to the formerly incarcerated people and/or theor families. In a disaster of this scale, it seems that it needs to be considered that the number of folks who work in rescue has probably reached its limit. It's not always negligence. Sometimes there simply are not enough rescue workers to go around 😢

I just saw those tempory venue hall trucks. I think they would be perfect for temporary shelters. Perhaps they could also move in portables (they use them for work camps up here) for housing while everyone works on clearing away the debris. After that's done, perhaps the people willing and able could work on assembling their prefabricated housing so they could have a home again sonner than later.

People who live on Gulf Coast all the way to 100 miles inland deal with a lot and they seem to prepare more than other areas. When Hurricane season starts you have people constantly watching and they will start to point out systems way ahead of time. You should already have things you need to survive not wait until last minute. It doesn't take but one for you to learn for a life time if you are lucky enough to make it thru. People around the country has no idea what a big hurricane is like , it can be very scary and if you chose to ride storm out once you realize that you might should have evacuated it not a choice then and you have a ride ahead of you. When it's over it looks like a war had happened it is very unreal and will affect you for life.

Many people refuse to evacuate when orders to do so are given. For many years, I lived in Texas and Florida. Many a time I saw and heard people ridiculing us who took hurricane and tornado warnings seriously. Of course, these were the same people whining about the government not coming to the rescue when the hurricane was given or for not been fast enough after the storm hit.

I also live in North Carolina. This reminds me of Hurricane Bertha and Fran. They came onshore as category 3. Hurricane Fran completely destroyed and flattened everything. We went 19 days with no power or water. The cleanup took months and it was horrible. I lost everything. And fema dragged its heels to arrive. They didn’t have any of their disaster meals, no water, no supplies. Of course they were in an expensive base camp with hot meals. Red Cross showed up after 8 days. All they offered was a bowl of lukewarm canned spaghetti and a small white bucket with a plastic pair of gloves, trial size toothpaste and toothbrush. Best wishes to all who took a direct hit by the storm. For once our part of town was not flooded and very small damage to our property.
