@arapaimagold8088 : good question but in Europe the Honda customers never demand RWD or turbo in mass numbers. I do agree that cars lack excitement but one factor is that usa 🇺🇸. Honda always gave priority to vehicle designs based on what usa wanted. For European the American Honda cars are boring, lack of aggressive lines, ride handling. In 2006 we launched a unique European civic model. Aggressive design beautiful. Sales were at its peak. Nissan has nothing to offer, I know Honda engineers capability intimately. If Honda wants turbo , v8, rwd, etc they have money and capability to do it it without nissan. You don't need to buy a dead horse to win the race. Besides now the 3030 target is electrification and nissan has nothing to offer.

They have a cheap workforce (not exceptional when you don't respect basic human rights and the environmental guidelines the EV market is supposed to be based on). For now, many of their cheap cars will never succeed in meeting crash test's demanding norms. And like every product they manufacture, when they have a significant part of the market, they raise prices, and their products are not cheap anymore. In fact, they become more expensive considering their quality. It amazes me how we can make the same mistake for the last 30 years and still be fooled by this trap. Greetings from Japan. His points are plausible, but I take issue with the three brands being "very similar". They maybe to foreign eyes but in reality they are not. Later he is admitting this with Honda's engineering focus and Nissan's "my solution is the best solution" talk. He has an axe to grind against us but that is understandable. The charges against him were mostly frivolous. But some of Nissan's current troubles have roots partly in his decisions IMO. However his successors have had plenty of time to deal with them, so he is not responsible now. 1)He decided to avoid mass-deploying Nissan's own hybrid technology in North America. 2)He decided to bet on China more aggressively than other Japanese auto makers. 3)He bet on Mexico more aggressively as a manufactureing base than other Japanese auto makers. 4)He decided to put EVs as Nissan's main solution to global warming. But Nissan's Leaf, its main EV, avoided active cooling of batteries and instead went for passive cooling, to this day. I don't know if this was his decision or the decision of engineers working under him, but the result was hotter batteries that degraded faster and slow to charge. I have attended Nissan's shareholders meetings and I have heard his speech (in English) saying that Nissan's manganese? electrodes were resistant to degradation, but the reality turned out to be the opposite. The early version of 1st generation Leaf was particularly prone to early battery degradation. Either he was misleading, or he himself was mislead maybe by the engineers. All of these decisions of him had good reasons but he took risks that were bigger than other Japanese auto makers were taking.

I think he meant Nissan + Honda vs Renault + Nissan was that Nissan and Renault were not in the same markets worldwide, whereas Nissan and Honda largely are. I suppose you could take Nissan trucks and EV (Ariya) + Honda cars and hybrid tech. However… Nissan’s V8 was and still is a notorious gas guzzler. While a great improvement over the Leaf, the Ariya is overall a bit “meh” for the price. No one-pedal driving… not even offer an option?! Too many model/option combinations. But given that Honda only has the unibody Ridgeline for trucks and no in-house EVs… there is problem some value to work with and sharing with Nissan here. However I don’t think the gains outweigh the negatives. Nissan is a debt-ridden, crashing sales, dead product company who is likely to be just a loadstone around Honda’s neck.

@@shypxhyou are like the Japanese companies. Still doubting electrification which is partly why the Japanese l, German and American companies are losing ground to the Chinese. Anybody who has really examined the car market in depth has Zero doubt that the future is battery electric. With all the issues battery electric cars have now (range and charging infrastructure) they are still competitive, still growing in market share and that is without the huge progress in batteries which is happening at incredible speed and which will make EVs more and more attractive.

If he didn't find a way out of Japan, he'd still be awaiting trial with over 99% conviction rate. Nissan had gone downhill since. The merger is a government move to save Nissan strictly based on pride. It's a shame what they did to him after all the work he had done.
