many skippers i know who were in paros that night, went out at sea trying to pick up as many as possible... 2m swells in a smaller sailing boat, at night, visibility zero, its TERRIFYING

The fact that the water tight doors were left open especially in a terrible storm is beyond crazy! While the age of the ferry was questionable, it was keeping those water tight doors open that sunk that ship. And there was no excuse for that kind of negligence.

The door actuators should have had a battery system thst ckosed the doors automatically if main power was lost. That might be lacking due to the ship's age, and probsbly would cost a couple thousand to retrofit, but probably the onshore types were certain thecat-sea types wete following the regulations and keeping them closed,.

The worst part is that that has happened several times! The reserve voyancy on these ferry boats isn't very much either! They sink like a rock. They call these fairies RO-RO's. It actually stands for roll on, roll off, But the sailors say it's for Roll on Roll over! Not a good sign.

No mention of the outcome of the trial. So I looked it up. From the Greek City Times: --------------- Several crew members, as well as representatives for the owners, were subsequently charged with different criminal charges, including manslaughter and negligence. First Officer Tassos Psychoyios was sentenced to 19 years, while Captain Vassilis Giannakis received a 16-year sentence. Psychoyios had been watching a football match on television when the ship hit the rocks, according to witnesses. Three crew members were sentenced to between 15 months and 8 years and 9 months for a series of misdemeanours that included abandoning the ship without the captain’s permission. ----------------

Thanks for looking that up! Strange the video folks didn't include that info. How much time was the late Line VP facing? Was it that or the unfortunate and unnecessary death that perpetuated his suicide?

Technically air has fluid properties, so sea disasters do qualify for viewing. I also have seen this before, but not watching it "upside down"!

Mandatory scrapping laws of vessels at a certain age could in itself be a safety hazard. The closer to the deadline a vessel gets, the less motivated the owner will be to do proper maintenance. I also suspect thar competent, experienced, crew are going to look for new jobs causing increasing problems with inexperienced crew.

Many here have complained about this being a re load. I've never seen it before and as i use ferries quite frequently i was happy( or maybe not ) to see it. Rip to the dead. I would have been one of them most probably had i been on that ship as im terrified of water .

The express Samina was a hunk of junk that should have been taken out of service before the accident. It should have been retired WELL before 2001, which was its scheduled date. But this accident happened in 2000. RIP to all who lost their lives.

It’s the re-uploads that bother me but also the videos where they combine 3 accidents in one video. Which kinda spoils the 45 min full video of each one. I think the sad truth is they’re just out of content because there’s only so many crash episodes

Ferries that carry vehicles, should have the vehicles be exposed to the outside on top of the boat, and should be catamarans or trimarans.

Lazy crew members, their job was to keep the water tight doors closed. Only two of them were closed. Poor management, leadership and accountability is the main cause of the disastor. The Captain failed to maintain his crew properly. The two young women are true heroines!!!

Smart enough to know about metallurgy and marine design to know the ship was going to sink, but foolish enough to think their tickets forced them to stay on the open deck in gale force winds. Wherever they graduated from needs to give them their money back, lol.

Education only proves your capacity to absorb knowledge short term, not how to apply it. Maybe neither could read Greek and so couldn't read the signs directing them to 3rd class accomodations. Greek *is* a fun language since they don't use the alphabet English-speakers are used to. Thry would hsrdly be the first tourists who gone wandering about in a nation with little to no grasp of the language.

There's 240 episodes as of March 2023. They've been releasing episodes every 2 days for almost 3 years. It's really not any different from watching cable TV reruns. Though it is technically a violation of TOS

@@harryshuman9637good point. I couldn't find a definitive total, but 18 seasons x 23 episodes (est) = 414. But the licensing is unclear, so not sure how many of those episodes are licensed to this channel.
