This is why i drive a relatively simple petrol car, diagnosing this sort of issue and fixing it is beyond the ability of even a fairly advanced DIY mechanic. Plus dropping that tank really doesn't look like fun if you're on your back under the jack stands. Eagerly awaiting part 2.

Had to replace both my aux pumps on my Rover 75 diesel. One in the tank which you can get at via under the rear seats and a easy 15mins job in the front. Common problem on the BMW Diesel engine. Cost me £250...god knows how much if I'd took it into a garage. Great vid as usual.

ROFL I drive an old Mondeo MK3 ST220 with an 3ltr engine...and I got the same Fuel-Pump-Problems as u did. So I went into the garage and payed 1045 euros to fix it! They built in a new Fuelpump and new Fuel-Filter...Now I am happy to have back my old Mondeo and it drives better than before as it seems :-)

Hi Alan, very interesting video. Most likely the defect is due to the fuel metering valve (or M-prop valve) on the high pressure pump. The excessive pressure in the rail is caused by the pressure regulator which for various reasons can no longer be controlled by the ECM and remains wide open. 🍻

The M-prop valve is same thing with fuel metering valve or pressure regulator valve.This is a solenoid on the high pressure pump, which regulates the fuel pressure in the rail.When the valve can no longer be controlled by the ECM (for different reasons: poor electrical connection, poor quality fuel, etc.), the pressure in the rail increases excessively leading to the fault code and finally to the engine shutdown.

had plenty of P0088 , fix was M prop slow to react when desired rail pressure falls, although this is different.....hmmm maybe HP fuel pump stuck on full delivery

Hi mate I have got a Ford Mondeo mrk 4 2.2 x sport I cleaned the egr valve and intake manifold out put it all back together go to start it and the starter is not spinning the engine over properly and I disconnected the battery before unplugging the sensors

wowowowoo, who designed that fuel pump location?? Crazy. They want to complicate your life to the extreme. My Seat Leon MK1 has the fuel pump under the rear seat. Only 3 screws and the pump is out.

Hi Alan, thanks for your very informative (and entertaining videos). Although I changed my Mondeo for another German premium brand, thought I will share this: Anyone reading, for the spring, try googling for "Delphi dfp6 plunger return spring 459". Based on some pics of the HPFP, the pump part number is 28384347 and the Delphi type is DFP6.1E DW10F Probably your local Delphi service has them on stock or can order(in case it is not the correct part. I will spam the same message to the other HPFP videos.

I had a brand new mondeo mk3 zetec 2.0L Diesel that used to cut out when I was on the motorway Fords I took it back as it was still under warranty they had it for 3 months in their garage I then got it back and said it’s sorted I picked it up took it for a run and after two miles the same problem happened they had to replace the car and I ended up getting a zetec S they told me they had replaced the fuel tank injectors pumps even after all that it still broke down I never did find out the cause of what it was

Is dirt in the tank and injectors far more likely in high mileage cars ? Most drivers that share probably fill the tank at the end of every shift so no problems but not necessarily those not sharing.

Hi Alan I’ve got a mk4 2.0tdci which occasionally keeps cutting out as if it’s ran out of fuel. It hasn’t I can get it going again with a priming bulb connected on to the return pipe. It’s a struggle though as it seems to struggle to suck out the tank as if there’s a blockage or something. The filter was only changed 3 months ago I’ve scanned the car and it doesn’t show any faults. Any ideas 🤷

sounds like you have an air leak on your low pressure fuel pipes somewhere or a badly leaking injector back to the tank..headache..maybe start with a fuel injector leak off test

According to ford Etis it shows one in mechanical , exhaust . And in wiring diagram it shows vapouriser glow plug and pump. Not unusual for the fuel to flow out the spill pipes on some fords . Does exactly that on new transit custom as I found out last week leaving the ign on while changing the injectors.

@@danielp9721 If you ever change your fuel filter on the 1.8 TDCi you need a hand pump or some sort of pump connecting to the inlet pipe from the tank to the filter housing and that is the only way you will get fuel up to the engine. Hope this helps mate :)
