He didn't say he is, it was a hypothetical cuz Arman was the closest he could find to "a bad matchup" for Makhachev. Makhachev outwrestled Arman the first time they fought. It was Arman's UFC debut but Makhachev also fought with a terrible staph infection. All in all, you are right, Arman is certainly NOT the better wrestler, perhaps the closest when compared to other LW fighters. Too bad for Arman, Makhachev is also better than him striking.

I think Petr Yan is the nightmare matchup for Omalley. It a very close fight the first time with some even believing that Yan should have won that fight. plus, with the fact that Petr Yan is a slow starter I think that Sean Omalley would have trouble once Petr Yan got going.

hot take: stylistically sergei pavlovich is a worse matchup for jones then aspinall, i say this because it usually takes time for jones to shoot for the takedown (usually r2 he'll start shooting) and on the feet sergei is more dangerous, yes i am aware tom flat lined sergei but if you look at previous fights and records all of toms impressive wins (excluding sergei) have come via submission, arlovski rnc, volkov arm bar, and sergei has put out tuivasa, lewis etc by ko/tko. to say aspinall is a better fighter i'd unfortunatelly have to agree but in terms of styles i think sergei challenges jon more than aspinall purely because sergei would have current jon on skates for the first few rounds rather tom wouldn't

Pavlovich has nothing to offer for Jones on the ground. Tom is technical and heavy-handed enough to force JJ onto the ground where he most likely will hold his own. R3+ JJ might maul Pavlovich on the ground, while I would expect Tom to survive and piece old and slow Jones up nicely.

Call me crazy. But I actually think that Dricus’ style could be problematic for Izzy. Izzy likes to take his time on the outside and use his feints to make reads and pick apart opponents. Dricus makes fights ugly and walks forward like a wrecking ball, and we’ve seen Izzy struggle against thise types of styles (like Gastellum for example) Then, besides that, DDP has a massive advantage on the ground if he can take Izzy down. Gonna be such a sweet fight

No way DDP does anything useful with a takedown (if he can even land one). All his TDs vs Strickland were basically useless, except for their effect on the scorecards of course. Izzy a much more high level grappler/wrestler than Strickland in terms of defense, I would be very surprised if DDP can do much damage on the floor

Makhachev already beat Tsarukyan. Yes it was Tsarukyan's UFC debut, but Makhachev out wrestled & beat him all the while having a terrible staph infection, even countered & tripped him at one point to show there are levels to wrestling. Now imagine a fully healthy Makhachev whose standup is better & whose wrestling at worst, is still a little better. Can Arman win? Of course, its MMA, anyone can win/lose on a given night. Likely? I doubt it. All that being said, you are spot on, it would most likely be Makhachev's toughest fight.

Yeah I think the fight will come down to striking but Islam isn’t as polished of a striker as people think. He’s very defensive, stationary, open to combos, and doesn’t have the best chin. Arman definitely has KO power so it comes down to how creative he is with his striking. I think there is a decent chance Arman wins this but it’s by no means certain. There’s also a possibility the fight stalls if neither wants to take the wrestling or striking initiative
