The way Freddy says 'Tina' at 2:50 is so sinister because it's so serious, almost caring sounding. This is my favourite scene from the movie, the whole back garden and alley way setting is perfect for Freddy's first appearance. The original and best movie. Love it.

One of the best kills and superbly done! THANKS WES CRAVEN (Director/Producer/Writer), ROBERT ENGLAND (Freddy Krueger), & AMANDA WYSS (Tina) for a cult classic!!! Johnny Depp being pulled into the bed mattress with a fountain of blood shooting towards the ceiling was genuis too! Wes Craven, would love to see you do another movie to this caliber and use AMANDA again! She is awesome!

Fair point . I do think they went overboard with the modulation in the later Films , however I think in the First Three Films they had it at just the right level when they did have it . My favorite Freddy voice ( And , you`re free to disagree ) is Jackie`s , however . I think he struck the right balance between Freddy`s human and demonic aspects in that it was gutteral and demonic yet raspy and off-kilter . And , people say he was just doing his Rorschach Voice but he wasn`t .

When he runs after her it's probably one of the most genuinely scary scenes in film. Knowing shes alone in the street and the houses are empty because it's her nightmare. Perfect scene

This is the Best Nightmare on Elmstreet movie ever. no remake could possibly live up to this.

Once again you knock it out of the park. This movies nightmares plays on fears everyone has. The sequels did but like you said, way to OTT. I really liked JEH aggresiveness as Freddy. He truly wanted to butcher these kids and didnt have time to play around. I thought it was a nice change of pace to make the characters different. As you said, to bad he was the only one that brought ANYTHING to the remake. Robert in this movie is untouchable by ANYONE.

Best kill in the series for three reasons. Firstly it's got that amazing build up, secondly it's a surprise as going into it Tina seems like the main protagonist, thirdly it's incredibly brutal and disturbingly done
@tfutrell00011 жыл бұрын
This is, hands down, one the most memorable scenes in horror movie history. I like how Craven made the audience think that Tina was going to be the main star of the movie, and then violently killed her off minutes later.
@26michaeluk12 жыл бұрын
Yeah so many people think Freddy was always being a joke because they have seen sequels and not the original. He was truly scary in this movie and this is the scariest part of the movie. They are two totally different Freddys in a good way. I love them both

The freaky part for me is where his arms become disturbingly and unnaturally long. That is just sooo freaky. Robert Englund looks truly evil in this scene, Nancy's school chase, and in the opening scene. That is the freakiest opening of any movie, ever. Better than Scream. Nightmare on Elm Street is the freakiest movie ever made!
@TomUK73711 жыл бұрын
One of the creepiest and best scenes from any horror film. The bedroom was actually built upside down in order to create the illusion Tina was on the ceiling. The remake never had a chance, you simply can't top Nightmare on Elm Street its 80s horror at its finest.

What makes this movie great and different from the sequels is the nightmares. In this its not over the top, its subtle. You dont know if they are awake or asleep till something like Freddys arms elongated happens. The sequels went over the top. Disturbing nightmares like Tina in a body bag is crazy. Freddy was truely evil in this movie and scary as hell. To bad the sequels turned him into a joke

Once again I agree with you. Robert will forever be the definitive Freddy. JEH was totally let down by that horrible script. I like the remake just because of his performance as Freddy. He was not given much to work with and still played a decent Freddy but NO ONE will ever top Robert as Freddy, especially his portrayal in this movie. Nice to see someone who knows what they are talking about Angelic.

If you listen closely , Jackie Earle Haley`s Rorschach voice was much more composed , raspy and never totally betrayed his emotions until the very end by which time he`d reached his breaking point . His Freddy voice , however , is much more perverted , loud , demonic and off-kilter . Rorschach is defined by self-control while Freddy is defined by an utter lack of self-control and if you listen closely you can clearly hear that in Jackie`s voice for each Character .

This whole death scene bothered me so much back then because not only did I like Tina's character in general, but the number 1 brutally murdered her with Freddy in a very sadistic way and number 2, they tortured us viewers with her demise throughout the movie, showing her murdered corpse talking to Nancy and others through the duration of the film, making us feel even worse about her character's demise.
@26michaeluk13 жыл бұрын
This is the best and scariest part of the whole series. Its so brutal and its the first kill by freddy. For 1984 the rolling room thing is crazy even today. I love the stretched out arms but they dont age well. Wes Craven says that everyone he has talked to has said the scene is the scariest. His eyes are freaky
@STONECOLD19879 жыл бұрын

But at the same time it's scarier, he seems less like a fantasy creature, a strange inhuman demon like in the later movies, like when you see his chest in this film, it makes him seem more human, more real and more disturbing

A brilliant and chillingly memorable moment from the original which the remake tried to recreate but totally screwed up. While Tina's death on the Ceiling was genuinely nasty the remake was just clumsily choreographed and directed. A shame for Jackie Earle Haley that the remake stank because he was one of the few decent things about the movie . Ditto Clancy Brown.

The thing is the sequel that gets shit on the most is probably the only sequel to stay true to the originals tone and atmosphere and stick to just being a horror movie with a scary Freddy is Freddys Revenge. He had his best makeup in that movie and was scarier and more evil in it then even the original. To bad the plot was horrible. Yeah 3 and 4 are great and fun to watch but come NOWHERE close to being as terrifying as the original. I totally agree with you.

Hey I wanted to ask if you liked New Nightmare. Its tied as my favorite with this movie because it so closely resembles it. Freddy was very scary in that movie. I liked it cause Craven is basically saying how he does not like what the crappy sequels did to the character and I so agree with him. I wanted to ask cause there is usually no middle ground, either people love it for being like the original, or hate it because it was not just another Freddy movie.

@ratskan Cocaine seems to be the key ingredient to everything that was awesome about the 80s and why shit got so awful at the turn of the decade. Everything about the 80s is either overtly or subtly creepy, which probably helps 80s horror set the atmosphere better.
