It does remind me of AITAH readit story where the stepmother was so jealous of the pass away mother that she took everything that was the mother's; son's knife, daughter's stuff zebra, horse collection, letters to the kids, and everything the dad saved, and burned it all or toss it away while the dad and kids were away. She told her friends, and one told her to come clean or she would tell the husband. Stepmother didnt come clean and was exposed. Her whole life was ruined and lost everything. In the end, it was still like she didn't understand why people were mad.

It probably makes it easier with storytelling to keep names the same. I remember this guy whose parents gave him away to another family who couldn't have kids and, to make the storytelling easier, he called them "mother" and "father", and the adoptive parents had this adjective "adoptive". When questioned, he said this was to make storytelling easier, because he doesn't consider his biological parents his parents at all, nor does he call them such, but his adoptive parents are just his parents, no need for qualifiers.
