Kudos to my mom who took care of my paralyzed father for THIRTEEN years almost all by herself (with help from me and a permanent care giver) . Father had suffered three strokes but mom would never put her in a care home. It took immense toll on him, both emotional and physical but he stayed with us until the end.

I agree. But also…ALL Nursing homes should be held to *far higher standards* than the majority currently are. Especially when it comes to having enough staff…much less properly trained & thoroughly vetted staff. Having only 1-2 registered nurses for an entire nursing home at times & having only 1 doctor manage all the patients while only visiting a couple times a month…it’s impossible to provide adequate, much less proper, levels of care.

Why would Amanda think William would be happy for her to give away all his things and sell his house? Why was she doing all this if she didnt have much of a relationship with him before? Nursing homes are the warehousing of humans and terrible places to be. Its actually sadistic of her to rub all this in his face. If she really cared about him, she would keep the details of everything he was losing and probably hoping to return to to herself. I have to wonder if she was trying to manipulate him for consent. Theres probably a reason he has a guardian and they stopped being "involved." Its amazing who comes out of the woodwork when elders with property become vulnerable.

Unfortunately that female relative & her husband *SOLELY* thought about the situation from *their* point of view & *their* effort/sacrifice. While *utterly failing* to give even a *single thought* to how William would feel having lost all independence, all say in his affairs & then was being told to “be happy” his house is being sold, his things combed through/sorted & some of his things “given to Goodwill”! ALSO! Holding anyone with that disease who is in a near catatonic mental state the vast majority responsible for understanding complex ideas…beyond “we’re giving away, selling &/or taking your property”….& therefore judging them based on ANY response or lack of response they give is ridiculous, unreasonable, ignorant & self-centered. That’s like getting angry at your toddler for not showing gratitude for you as a parent going to work to earn money…they simply don’t have the awareness & cognitive ability to grasp any but the most simple bits of such concepts. - When I was a home health assistant & later a paramedic/ER nurse I *frequently* saw people either not understand or not consider the mental capacity of such patients. Also constantly saw people utterly failing/refusing to consider things from the patient’s point of view. Of course…failing to consider the point of view of others is a severe, growing National epidemic & growing global pandemic. 😕

'You did this to me' 'you put me here' these are all things ive heard from residents in a care home i worked in. It isnt necessarily personal, i was told id put someone in there, i didnt know them before working there. If she just walked away and didnt go back once he was having a better day she didnt deserve him in her life. I was once asked how i put up with abuse from some of the more violent residents. Its easy... that isnt them, that is their illness. That is when they need someone the most, i always ask how you woyld feel if everything was changing, you were in a strange place and cant remember how or why? Youd be scared, often the agression can stem from that fear.

I feel sorry for him. She rubbed it in his nose that they emptied his house and was going to sell it. No going back then. She could have kept quiet about his house. Normal people have empathy for elderly and sick people. She just rubbed it in his face and got upset when he reacted as he did. No strange reaction at all. He had lost everything.

That with their father, that would leave anyone in apprehension, he was hurting and overcome. No one cared. He felt that it was release to calm the pain and sadness, little did he know it wasn’t. Moving out was not the answer, bringing closure and healing was. I know that when my dad was hurting after losing his father he ran out of the hospital and to the local next door park and tried to jump in the river. I stopped him and talked to him and told him it’s going to be alright and okay. I was only 18 years old at the time.

William did not have any money, and he have had a drinking problem. He could not take care of himself, so they help him in to a nursinghome. They would sell the house, so he could pay for the nursinghome, and they clean it up so it was more easy to sell. He didn’t have any money, and it w’s because of that they had to sell the house. It’s not for free to live in a nursinghome, and the house could pay for it.

Both my parents I never thought of having them in a nursing home...they died in their home, in their room as should be my evil sister and daughters had us kicked out of the family home... I just moved on....ever since I was a teen I would move out and go to school at boarding school in Oregon and moved around to Montana and in Washington state but my parents would find me and ask me to come back and help with ranch and farming so I did...life does go on and you make it on your own nothing is free❤

I work with nursing home, assisted living and adult family home. I see lots of anger and blames on the children or family that “put” them in the facilities. The fact is these elderly are not safe to be at home alone because of their physical, mental or cognitive issues. They need 24/7 care taker and healthcare staff to monitor their health. There are cases where family take advantage of their financial situation too.

Old William wasn’t as dumb as everyone thought sitting in that hospice waiting to die. He knew well enough that all the leaches were out already to suck up all of his assets. It’s pretty clear that he put a curse on anyone that jumped on his assets with that spell book he had. They just couldn’t wait until he died. 😂

I've seen the episode of The Exorcism of Cindy Sauer a few times, watching it now again because I love A Haunting, so I love my Hallmark movies, and the real Cindy Sauer looks like the Hallmark actress Eloise Mumford, she was on A Veteran's Christmas. Not to sound mean but not everyone can afford such a thing, as to take care of him at home. Most work paycheck to paycheck and have to work to care for their own family, and can't take time to care for people. This man seemed like he needed around the clock medical care and cant afford a nurse to stay at home with him, this woman tried what she could to keep him looked after. He was running out of money for his nursing home and selling his house was a way to pay for it. I don't understand my so many of the comments a condemning the woman for trying to help.
