A very minor point: The IBM PC DOS prompted for date and time on startup because it didn't contain the necessary hardware needed to preserve time between power-on cycles (called the real time clock). Back then when you turned it off, it was truly off; nothing was still running in a low power mode that would keep track of the date and time. That is, unless you were wealthy enough for a higher end model, back in the days when it was newly manufactured. Then you'd have both a real time clock and a battery that keeps time for you. Until the battery went dead, of course. The fact that it printed the date 01-01-1980 doesn't mean it was last used then; that's the default date used by that kind of DOS software on that generation of hardware. It's used when no real time clock hardware was detected. Similarly, 00:00:00 was the default clock time, although by the time the computer had started up and was running the clock-set program, 13 seconds had gone by, so that's what was displayed at the prompt.

Just a heads up, Bakemono doesn’t mean “changing” or “transforming” monster, it means “changed thing” - something perverted or corrupted from its origijal form. In earlier days computer wouldn't have a plug & play connection to the internet as we know it today. Best case they'd have a dial-up modem. The programmers of an OS would define a default time to be used in such cases as a newly installed computer. The default time will also be set when the computer's CMOS battery, which usually keeps the clock going even when the device is turned off, has died. I'm afraid this is less of a hint than you think...

It's been a while. How are you doing? I know some places have more resources than others; I hope you had access to some and were able to turn things around.

This video feels very "classic" Night Mind, and that's very much a good thing. Not that the recent stuff has been bad, not at all, but this feels just like the old This House or Noc10-tpe content, it's very nice.

I listened to this while sleeping and trust me it was an anthology of nightmares

SOUND DESIGN IS 5000/10 AND AS A PERSON WITH ABNORMALLY GOOD HEARING, I HAVE TO SAY, THAT ALL OF THE LITTLE SOUND NUANCES ARE FUCKING HORRIFYING. MADE MY EARS POP SEVERAL TIMES, I COULD LITERALLY FEEL THAT SHIT IN MY HEAD. ALMOST THREW UP AT ONE POINT, TOTALLY WORTH IT. UNIRONICALLY GAVE ME A MILD SEIZURE & I WOULDNT CHANGE A THING (it’s ok I’m fine they are harmless, I have auditory processing disorder and this is normal for sounds with extreme/certain frequencies pls don’t worry lol). THE ORIGINAL VIDEOS MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS ON A ROLLER COASTER AND I FELL OVER AT ONE POINT BECAUSE I COULDNT TELL WHICH WAY WAS UP. IT GOES SO FUCKING HARD ITS BEEN YEARS SINCE IVE HAD ANYTHING BESIDES LOUD MUSIC DO THAT TO ME. WHAT A FRICKIN MASTERPIECE. GOOD GOLLY GOSH

I don’t know if anyone noticed, but at 20:50, that’s not actually a man in costume, but a monster from the Betty Boop episode “Minnie the Moocher” (I’m pretty sure at least) I don’t know if it really matters, I just found it interesting

as an aspiring story teller these videos are great to learn how to tell a story in any way and I thank you for that.

i feel like 'libretto' was either an indirect shoutout courtesy of the series creator to everybody who examined his series early on or, in-universe, the creator of this show going 'hi, i see you, i know you're watching'

There's a flash of a bunch of characters at 9:42 that might yield some clues. Will need to slow it way down to catch it though. Also really cool that you all got a shoutout by the author for your work!

About the IBM pc saying the date is 1-01-1980, that's essentially the setup screen. It has no meaning except to give the lowest possible number it is able to set the time to. It's basically saying "hey, welcome to the computer, please insert the correct time" It likely means this computer was just found and turned on after a long time of being unplugged, as they're setting it up using MS-DOS. You only need to do this once, then it should remember it untill you unplug it again. Its unlikely that whatever is going on started on January first 1980. When I boot up my IBM PCjr computer (which uses the exact same operating system) I have the exact same time and date. Great video! Cant wait for more!
