Nightshade's notes: This time, I prompted Timeraft for a script about an orc magic user and an interesting listener character, and I'm so thrilled with this. I can always trust Timeraft to take my loose ideas, run with them, and come up with a concept that's not quite like anything else I've seen. This lonely, brave heroine who struggles with her own heart despite the wisdom she's fought for really stole my heart.
I put a few little sfx touches in the visuals on this video, although you certainly don't need to watch to appreciate the audio. I hope all of you enjoy this story! Thank you very much, my loyal listeners and royal court!

Script written by Timeraft. It is very beautifully written, even poetic in places. And in some places it is very realistic. She went against the traditions of her people and became an exile for what she believed in. She went through incredible trials and gained power and wisdom. It would seem that the hardest part is over, all that remains is to finally start realizing your dreams. But people don’t need her wisdom, people are interested in weapons. It's true and I think it will never get old. What is it like to go through all of this to gain that kind of power and realize that using that power means going against what you believed in when you started on this path? No one needs wisdom, and it would be wise not to use strength. So what is left in the end? Oblivion. Exile. Loneliness. Love is the answer. Instead of changing the world, an attempt to create a small world full of happiness for yourself and your loved one. Maybe there is real wisdom in this. Who knows, I certainly didn't go through all these epic adventures. I like her. She's kind, she's loving, she's not stupid, she can even joke about being an orc. She has dreams and regrets that make her more real. Her story, although full of fantastic adventures, makes her at the same time a very real character. And I like a listener who, although they are embarrassed to admit their feelings, are good at what they do and play an important role in the lives of people who rely on the listener. I like that there are a lot of details here. For example, something caught my attention at the very beginning. She asked to make thirteen jars of deep red color for her. And she said that this would require a small amount of gold dust. We are talking here about Cranberry glass or 'Gold Ruby' glass. Glass that takes on a dark red color when a small amount of gold is added to it. It may not be important to the story, but I like those kinds of details. Good voice acting as always. Nice art. And I liked the “magic” effects in the video. This is a good video. Thank you.

I had to listen to this from you again because some else did the same script. They did a good job of it, but I have to say, I think you put more into the emotional range into. I also liked the art you created for it. That was definitely different. It had a water color quality to it that really hit well. And she is a thick orc. She may be a sorceress, but she has the strength of an orc under those soft curves. So much to hug. How could our diverse craftsman refrain confessing his love to such an orc beauty, in body as well as mind. I guess her scary nature can make one hold back. So glad they had a happy ending. Keep up the amazing story telling! You are certainly a gem!

Well thank you! I commissioned this script from Timeraft, but with permission to share it publicly once my audio was posted so that other people would have the chance to try it. More chances to have people see Timeraft's brilliance, and for other people to show off their interpretations. To be honest, Timeraft admitted to me that they originally imagined the character as being more flirty than I portrayed her, though they were pleased with my more emotional take on it as well. Which is why I think it's awesome that other people are trying their hand at the script, bringing out the other possibilities. Though I'm certainly honored that you enjoyed my work on it so much! 😊 That's wonderful to hear. Yeah, I'm going to be honest - I sometimes feel like I messed this one up, because I don't really get how flirtatious bullying is supposed to work, and I think that's what Timeraft intended when they wrote it. I think there's value in the way I did it, because there ended up with more heartfelt emotion, but because I acted it more seriously, it means the bullying part came out more seriously, too. So... yeah, idk. But I'm glad you enjoyed it regardless! Thank you!

Orcs might have racial anger issues, I'm gathering. I'm a little concerned by that fact that, when she was mildly frustrated about something, her first instinct was "pin the human to the wall, don't let him escape, and magic the truth out of him." On the whole, though, I think she's a good person. Really, I'm mostly impressed with the listener here. Carpenter, blacksmith, and glassblower? Any one of those is an incredibly demanding and hard-to-learn job. To be good at all three, and fulfill all three functions for an entire town? Damn.

Heyyo script author here! It doesn't really show up in the video but in this world she lives in magic is a very physically involved thing (you can sort of see that in how she had to touch the listener several times in a certain way to cast her spell). To cast a spell you'd have to do the right motions and breathing beats (think like yoga or tai chi) so most magic users would be pretty physically capable even if they weren't necessarily buff as hell. That's part of the reason she was so good at it even though she started later in life. Since she already understood the basic concepts of physical action from her time as a warrior.

Not how AI works, man. It doesn't just copy people's artwork, it takes all the artwork it can find, looks at what's good and what's bad, and makes something new based on that. Like looking at a hall of masterpieces and then painting your own because of their inspiration. And people who use AI to generate art definitely aren't stealing from anyone, even if you could somehow prove that the AI was. They're just trying to get a pretty-looking picture.

@@Stormcoming6 Well said. But I would add one more thing to this. Apparently she draws the characters herself, makes a “simple” relatively quick drawing, and then simply uses an AI filter to make it more anime-style shiny and bright. For example, in one of the shorts you can see how she draws the face of a lamia. And in the video description it is always written "Character and thumbnail design by me using Novel AI and Clip Studio Paint." Clip Studio Paint is simply a digital art drawing program, similar to Photoshop. So it’s still basically her own work. As for using AI to create video thumbnails, I don't see any problem with it. Obviously, none of the small ASMR channels have the money to hire artists to draw unique, good quality images for *each* video. And I personally would prefer that voice actresses do their own thing rather than waste precious time trying to become artists as well. So it's a simple choice between using free images (which are already often repeated in ASMR video thumbnails) or using AI. But since we are talking about Nightshade, I feel that this accusation is doubly unfair because she spends time drawing too.

I am myself an artist, and my art has been scraped to train AI. I make mostly traditional art on paper, as well as the occasional digital painting. I do not consider AI learning from my art to be theft. I consider it as my art being used to create a new resource, one which I can then use in turn. I am answering this comment because I want to be honest and transparent about what I do. But I also respect the views of others and have no wish to turn the comment section of my video into a forum for debate. I wish everyone the best, regardless of your stance on this issue.

@Monster_Lover You've really been paying attention! Though I want to clarify, in case it's confusing, that the art for the lamia is one of two character pics to date that were actually never put through AI. The other one is the shy elf. Those two were entirely drawn by me, although I did use other AI images as references in order to emulate the style and keep my channel art looking consistent. The sketches I draw to run through the AI tool are generally much simpler. But I also do a lot of work modifying whatever the AI gives me in CSP afterwards, because I'm way too particular for my own good.
