Chicago Airport Spotter

9 жыл бұрын

I am a cargo ramp agent at Chicago O'Hare International / Int'l Airport ( KORD / ORD ), and as such, I get to marshall a lot of aircraft as part of my daily duties.
Here I am marshalling a Cathay Pacific Cargo Boeing 747-867F freighter arriving from Anchorage as Cathay 80 Heavy, operated by aircraft tail number, B-LJB. Its trip began at home base at Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok International / Int'l Airport ( VHHH / HKG ), but all cargo aircraft heading to the U.S. or Mexico from Asia must make a fuel stop at Anchorage Ted Stevens International / Int'l Airport ( PANC / ANC ) in Alaska before proceeding to their destination(s) in North America.
Please feel free to ask me any questions and I will do me best to answer them.

I've done this for so many years back at JFK NY. The first airplane I parked was Varig, 747. I couldn't believe how the pilot was listening to me each time the nose wheel turned to get on the center line. LOL. Years later I was on the other side, behind the controls being parked. (In a little Piper Warrior) :) at Stewart Airforce base.

Very good job. Now if I can only get my crew to marshal that well. They seem to think that they only have to wave them in, and it's up to the pilot to make sure he's straight. At least you were directing him left or right when needed.

Always great to see videos from a unique perspective. Just wondering when you are directing the aircraft, are you just watching the nose wheel on lines on the ground ?
@ChicagoAirportSpotter
@ChicagoAirportSpotter 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! And yes, I usually watch the nose wheel on the center line. If I see that the mains are off-center, I'll signal the flight crew for a slight turn to correct that. It's worst in heavy snow when you can only see bits and pieces of the gate centerline, and often the aircraft turn onto the gate too soon or too late because they themselves can't see the line.

I always go downstairs on my breaks to shoot the shit with the guys, maybe marshall a plane or 2 in and toss bags for a bit. If they paid me what I make in the tower to work the ramp, I'd still be out there.

+joseg2143 I think he meant the "Chocks are in" signal. +DefiniteLemon if they're crossed overhead: stop and hold, if they're crossed low: engage parking brake, if they're touching tips or layered horizontally: the chocks are in place. Hope that helps.

The marshaler must issue the signal according to the standard signal and do it clearly, properly, and appropriately so that the signal can be accurately transmitted to the chief. Marshalers generally work in places that are visible to passengers, visitors, etc. It gives a strong impression as an image of an airline. As a person engaged in the operation of an aircraft, it is important to note that the work must be prepared and done with reasonable operation. In other words, your job is just a look, not marshaling.

Depends whether you wanna work cargo or passenger, but for the pax airlines, go online. For cargo, I suggest you go to the warehouses by Mannheim/Irving Park. Go to either AGI or TAS (they are very similar, starting pay is just about the same) and fill out the application on paper. Or tou could also try swissport. They are also online. Let me know if I can be of any further help.
