Peterson often grunts and hums along as he plays. It's amazing. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

One of the greatest musicians that walked this earth! His rhythmic feel, the technical abilities and the harmonic flexibility... plus his rhythm section is crazy good too! Thanks for picking this Jeff.

This was SO lovely and beautiful, and at the ending it left me in tears …. thank you so much for this request, Richard🥹🙏🏼🌈🤗. I so enjoy listening to Oscar Peterson - for my part especially with NHØP, eventhough I might be a bit biased there😉. The musical “dance”, understanding and respect is just so beautiful imo. Or as Oscar Peterson said in his own words: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpO1aqRjhZqKepYsi=c67VtvFggrlOrYIo Not a bad rabbit hole to dive into at all!! 😃🤩🥰🤗

Nighttime is an Oscar Peterson composition. He played it a lot, and you can find many versions of it on KZbin, including live versions. I chose this version because of the fact that it is such a cohesive performance. Oscar, Ray Brown and Herb Ellis are so comfortable together, that they can just relax and swing. The more you listen to Oscar Peterson the more you understand the incredible depth of his talent. He establishes a framework between melody, rhythm, and chord structure, then uses all of it to develop his ideas, always within the structure of the piece, and then comes back to the elements of the structure, to bring the piece to a close. He is a lot like Bach, the more you listen, the more you hear.

Love how Oscar quoted 'Surrey with the Fringe on Top' and then Ray brought it back too. Such a consistently sweet swing through the whole thing. Oh, did I just rhyme?

One more thing, next time try to listen to what his left hand is doing. The left hand provides the chord structures that allow the right hand to continue his improvisation.
