Marco has a great voice. He replaced the original bassist by the 3rd or 4th album and IMO was the most valuable addition to the band due to him being able to offer his voice alongside the female vocals. There are a ton of Nightwish songs that display his voice. If you really want to check out how well he can belt out check out "Phantom of the Opera", which is a cover of the title song of the musical of the same name. It is also a good song to see Tarja's heavily operatic vocals on their best display. Also a fun fact is that Marco is actually quite old and in his mid 50's. He started his career in the 80's in the Finnish heavy metal band Tarot with his brother.

Floor can most definitely NOT sing all of Tarja's parts easily. Decently, sometimes. Her strength is in her belting and chest voice, but she always starts losing quality going to head voice or slipping into operatic singing. That is the main reason why her voice suits the DPP and Imaginaerum songs the best.

Chris Webb You can certainly say Tarja’s english isn’t the best and that she chose to sacrifice diction instead of quality of sound, but I have to strongly disagree with everything else you said. I can only speak about what I’ve heard of Floor with Nightwish, since I was never the biggest After Forever fan and didn’t get into Revamp, but I always felt she’s less comfortable going into head voice and operatic parts. Her voice sounds much thinner and less strong. Maybe it’s the fact that she usually stays in chest/mix most of the time and then the sudden jump to head voice makes it sound weaker. People love to put Tarja down to lift Floor and I think that’s an insult to both.

Floor V Tarja, my opinion is that Tarja has an ethereal, haunting quality that I have never heard another vocalist match. Tarja's natural voice is better than Floor's...BUT Floor is much better is so many other ways, and I prefer her! 1. Floor has powerful stage presence that I think few professionals equal. She enchants, instantly. 2. In technical precision. I feel like she has trained more than Tarja. She hits each pitch perfectly, unmatched breath control, impeccable timing, dynamics, focus, tone, EVERYTHING. Tarja would slide into a note by accident every once in a while, or lose breath where she shouldn't. She was 95%, Floor is 100%. 3. She is wildly versatile! She can do the classical, resonance 3 parts (operatic style,) then launch into a feral growl of a line. She gives the music a gut and a power, a fire that Tarja and Anete could never match. Heck, I don't think any other musician could. Pairing her with Tuomas' songs... Match made in heaven.

Floor is at about 16 years old when she started to start singing, she did Rock Academy in the Netherlands in 99 and after 3 years she went to study opera and musical singing and during that part she was the lead singer of After Forever, so she is studied . When After Forever stopped , she started Revamp and then it was Nightwish. Revamp and Nightwish were same time , but when she was in Nightwish for good , she stopped Revamp.

In alot of ways I don't blame "Tarja" fans for being passionate about defending her. There was a time when I was among them. But then I had to realize that Tarja's time with NIGHTWISH was over. Both sides had moved on in their own way. Tarja and Floor have made their Peace and even performed together. Marco and Floor helped Tarja and a friend of hers put on a Christmas concert. Tuomas's lyrics often allude back to Tuomas's previous lyrics, and I think it's difficult to get the gist of his intention without that knowledge. In the first verse alone, I count references to seven separate previous works. For example, "The nightingale is still locked in the cage" is an allusion to The Escapist, a bonus track from 2007's Dark Passion Play. When I hear that line, it doesn't just evoke a bird singing beautifully in a locked cage. It also brings the entirety of The Escapist into the background of this song: that the cage is golden, how it functions as a metaphor for the complexities of navigating the world when he is who he is, how the only relief from its oppressiveness is pretending that he's wandering through a different world, how he's crying out for rescue by anyone, and so on. And that's just the first line. Tuomas's alleged unrequited love for Tarja is a rumor started by Tarja and her husband after the band fired her. It might be true; it might not. People tend to read whatever they want into it and then repeat that inference as if it's documented fact, but as far as I'm aware, Tuomas himself has neither confirmed nor denied the statement. As a result, a lot of people interpret the lyrics for some songs as being about that alleged relationship even when the lyrics seem more suited to an interpretation of Tuomas's relationship with himself. I mean, he literally named this one "Song of Myself," and there are still people trying to figure out how it relates to Tarja. Floor is awesome of course, and the compositions have been progressively better with every record, so I get wanting to delve into the later stuff first. But there are just some songs that aren't going to make much sense lyrically unless you know the lyrics to some earlier songs, and Song of Myself is one of them. Dead Boy's Poem is another. Even Ghost Love Score contains a lot of lyrical imagery from previous songs.

In relation to your breakdown. I say this as someone who became a fan during the Tarja era: Sori is 100% correct that the loyalties to Tarja over Floor is an emotional one over an objective one. Floor not only has far greater stage presence than Tarja, but (and there isn't a vocal coach alive that would disagree) Floor has far greater range. Floor can sing all vocal styles near flawlessly, whereas Tarja was a beyond brilliant opera singer. That being said, I hate the bickering between Nightwish fans. It's merely the evolution of a band. There's no heat between the two, in fact they're real life friends. They had someone who was amazing, then someone who was incredibly limited vocally, then someone who was just a little more amazing than the first. But because she was miles beyond the second, the third brought fans like me back to the band with a fresh take on the original music, and new music that leaves me speechless.

Watch Nightwish End of an Era it was Tarja's last filmed live concert. Personally I prefer Floor over Tarja now. Floor I believe is versatile as a singer, where Tarja I think is a one trick pony with the full opera singing.

I was about to say that you lost the trail pretty offen but damn I laughed so hard for "worshipping Elmo" and you are really entertaining and you seem to be so happy together. If I was single I would have cut my wrists open with my headphones and poked my eyes with the keyboard for that cuteness overload BUT fortunately I have a nice metal lady sleeping in the bedroom while I'm watching this in KZbin and I just keep smiling at you. Right after written this and clicked "Add Comment" I will head in the bed and make nice cuddle spoon for my girl =) Then to the business about the song. You gave pretty interesting point of view here. What I've understood is totally different but that is maybe due to the movie that is based on this album. Yes, there is a movie about this too - Imaginaerum by Nightwish. I won't spoil it all over but this song is not about Tarja or anything like that. Those times were far behind from this song era. The album and movie are about the power of imagination. There is still a poem after the actual song where Tuomas asked all the members to get one of their loved ones to speak a couple of lines there. Tuomas says one line by himself, his wife makes some, Troy (multi instrumentalist) makes quite a lot there. Then I remember Marco's twin sons spoke there too and I hear some old people also (maybe Tuomas' parents). That poem would have maybe changed your thoughts.

Marco and Floor both have very powerful voices, that compliment each other really well. Marco stays *real* busy outside of Nightwish...he's in 2 or 3 other projects when NW isn't touring. He's even in a Black Sabbath cover band that does covers in Finnish :). It's really too bad you just missed them. Even though you don't get to see their stadium show/big productions, they're still just awesome live.

All-around good performance. You're probably aware that Floor was in After Forever & as a tidbit, Jeff Waters from Annihilator does the guitar solo in their song 'De-Energized.' Floor has also done vocals in Arjen Anthony Lucassen's Star One & Ayreon projects, check that stuff out for sure. There's footage of some great live performances available. Floor's also guested on albums by Devin Townsend Project, Evergrey & others. I don't know what the ReVamp stuff sounds like, haven't listened to it yet. I mentioned this in one of your other Nightwish videos, but Marco is in Tarot. I've recommended these live versions before; Pyre of the Gods (Tarot: Undead Indeed 03 Pyre of Gods), & Bleeding Dust (Tarot: Undead Indeed 07 Bleeding Dust). Check out The Gathering. I recommend these live performances: On Most Surfaces (Live @ Bizarre Festival, Rockpalast) 257K+ views / Marooned (Live @ Bizarre Festival, Rockpalast) the video w/644K+ views. On Most Surfaces is a bit of a rocker, & Marooned is a more subdued song.
