@The Question Queens: Debbie, my dear...how does the day find you? I hope you've been joyful since putting out this video! But for me, this song is special. Why? Because it isn't just a song about empathy or compassion, it's much more than that. I say this as a person who, for the vast majority of my life, has been a loner. In recent years, also a chronic depressive. Despite life showing me that I can be alone, and survive alone, there is still the part of me that has always wanted to be accepted by others, simply for me being me. And the idea of walking into a small, cozy home, and someone asking you, "How's the heart?" is something I can imagine a Southerner like yourself asking someone, as a greeting. But that's not all. The lyric, "Burn the rope and then some more" is a line that most people miss, because it is an allusion to a few things: Letting go of what you're holding. Releasing that which ties you to other people and things, i.e., "the ties that bind." Lastly, it's an allusion to the idea of someone taking their own life by hanging. The last one is the one that hits hardest for me, because I've lived that struggle. I know what the dark pits are like, what the constant mental battles are like. Yet, when I first heard this song, and I heard that line, I cried, because how often does anyone tell anyone else to "burn the rope" and live? Very, very rarely, if ever. That being said, Debbie, I have a reaction request for a band you haven't heard yet: Bloodywood. Bloodywood is an Indian Folk Metal band from New Delhi, India. Completely independent, they released their first album "Rakshak" (Hindi for "Protector") last February. But the reason I ask for this request is because of Bloodywood's song Jee Veerey (pronounced "Gee Veer-eh"; Hindi for "Brave One"). Jee Veerey is a song about battling depression and overcoming the urge to take your own life -- and doing so by convincing you to keep fighting. This song is special because a few years ago, it saved my life when nothing else did. And in a similar way to How's the Heart?, I listen to Jee Veerey and Aaj (Hindi for "today") when I need a song to be both cathartic and encouraging, so that I can maintain my mental health and fortitude.

@@marklinden2342 : For me, the only singer that comes close is Brittney Slayes of Unleash the Archers -- who, by the way, does objectively have better vocal stamina than Floor does. And, to answer the other person, Brittney Slayes is also a singer that isn't just beautiful with a beautiful voice, but who has a beautiful, down-to-earth personality. Put it this way: Brittney and Unleash the Archers actually held a contest to play a Dungeons & Dragons RPG with a couple of fans. Plus, I've been told multiple times that Brittney, if you catch her at a show, will actually hang out either before or after performing with fans, along with other members of the band, like Andy or Grant.

Good morning Debbie! :) You should know that this last album was released in April 2020, at the beginning of the lockdown period, so for a year this was the only live recording from Human :||: Nature. Like a dream, like a promise. The impact was so great that this acoustic version was often performed live in concerts in 2022, opening their "appetite" for other live performances in the same format - "Our Decades In The Sun", a very emotional song from "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (2015) recently received the same "treatment", being finally performed live, after 7 years.

When you try to introduce someone to Nightwish it's very hard to explain the music. If you say that Floor is the goddess of music then they look at you kinda strange. If you say that the music is like nothing you've ever seen before and can change your life, then they think "yeah, right". The thing is, if you take the leap and really embrace the rabbit hole then you will find that all of it is true, there really is nothing else like it.

It’s true what you say. When you all (Nightwish Army) flooded my channel, your all’s comments were like that and I thought…um this is a little nuts but I buckled up and took the ride and absolutely, after the 2nd song realized that this was like nothing I’ve ever heard before in my life - I keep feeling like that with each new song. Even trying to explain it to my daughters - YOU HAVE TO LISTEN, THIS IS INSANE, YOU WON’T BELIEVE IT!! They just don’t…understand lol 😂

I totally agree. I knew of Nightwish in my periphery for nearly 2 decades before I dove on in to really experience them. Prior to that I never would have believed that a band could make me a better person by simply listening and watching them perform, but its true. I am forever changed for the better for having found them. I am forever grateful for these beautiful people and all they share with us. I am especially grateful for Tuomas, for opening his heart and mind in such a way that we wish to do so as well. Nightwish, an adventure of a lifetime.

@@SteveOpstad Yes, I fully agree with you. It is astounding that all those Grammy and Brits awards nominees and winners get all the gushing praise. Do they not know good music? Trying to get people to understand why I listen to metal is like trying to swim through treacle. Just the word metal and they switch off straightawy. If only they would just give it a try rather than mind numbing pop and rap.

Hi Debbie, it is truly amazing how each Nightwish song pulls you in, and makes you say "This is my favorite!". Until seconds later you think of all the other songs and realize you just cannot pick. But I do believe for me this song is just special. It talks to so many people about the darkness within or within a loved one we care about. And it reminds us to reach out and connect. That we are better together and each of us can help pull another soul out of the darkness. I had to look up the meaning of "paean" because I'd never heard it before... "a song of praise or triumph" so "Let us sound a human song of (praise or) triumph" and now this is my favorite part of the song... Side note: I've been enjoying your reaction videos. Great job! And kuddos for the makeup one.. that was brave and I loved it. And learned a thing or two, so thank you. I am questioning your beloved blue notetaking pen.. it's like your trusty companion but do you actually take notes? Just curious. Stay Strong, and keep going!

Yes! This is one of those Floor performances (of many!) that you just couldn't conceive of how it could be improved - it's as close to perfection as possible. It is the perfect arrangement of an amazingly beautiful song. It got out of the way of the lyrics and message and let them shine in all their glory. And speaking of favourites, it was the world's greatest DJ, John Peel, who was constantly asked his favourite song. He'd been spinning disks, both major hits and deeply obscure, for many decades since those lightboats in the English Channel, and those who asked expected him to name some golden oldie from the 60s or 70s. But he always said "My favourite song will be the next one I play." I don't know why I bring that up, but your remark did remind me of that lol. But yes, every Nightwish song I listened to did become a favourite for me as well haha. And any new music from them will be a favourite as well 🙂

So glad you reviewed this one! It gets left out by so many. Ok, so you will not see many, ANY?, Vocal coach reviewers doing their own cover of this performance because it SO UNBELIEVABLY complex vocally. So naked, no editing, overdubs or autotune, ...... this is raw pure vocal talent and as pitch perfect as it gets..... Those lines are so difficult to sing let alone tune. Seriously, the melody and phrasing is not common to most music that is commonly sung and performed. Her vocal agility is OFF THE CHARTS on this one, like all of them, but this is special...... I think this is the first song you did from the newest album Human::Nature. There Tuomas started to really take advantage of Floor's voice. Most Nightwish songs you have reacted to are originally written for the voices of Tarja or Annette. Floor adapted these songs to her own style and made them her own in many cases. The first album which Nightwish released after Floor joined them was "Endless Forms Most Beautiful". From that one you have reacted to "Shudder Before the Beautiful" and "Yours Is an Empty Hope". While it is a very good album, there were some complaints that Tuomas did not fully use Floor's capabilities (which were well known in the metal community from her former bands). Floor said about Human::Nature that it was very challenging for her to sing these songs. Also from H::N and with some incredible vocals is the song "Shoemaker". When it came out on the album, Nightwish said they would not play it live because it would be impossible to sing live. Well, the fans requested it so often that Floor just found out how to do it. 🥰 I think the the best version is from Hellfest 2022: kzbin.infopYIX1Jyb64E?feature=share&t=3000 I also repeat my recommendation of "Rivers - acapella version" from Epica: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZjIeKedn96Eoqs

@@thequestionqueens Some background on Shoemaker. It is a tribute to planetary scientist Eugene Shoemaker who was one of the founders of that discipline. He was supposed to be one of the original Apollo astronauts but was medically disqualified. After his death, NASA honored him by placing a small amount of his ashes in a capsule on the Lunar Prospector mission and depositing the capsule in a crater named for him on the moon (his area of study was impact craters on Earth and other planetary bodies. The quote from Shakespeare that Tuomas's wife Johanna reads is inscribed on Shoemaker's capsule. The lyrics are very poetic and clearly are not only a tribute to Shoemaker but an ode to human exploration and our need to explore the universe.

I think the difficult thing here is that the intervals are extremely unusual in places - not ones you might expect to be in muscle memory. I have to say, Troy's vocals really come through too, as well as his guitar playing.

I agree completely! Incredibly challenging and difficult and she just NAILS it. It’s unreal, honestly. ❤️

Love watching your reactions. You get so immersed in the song and you feel every note. I suppose with Floor that’s not hard to do! But, let’s not forget Troy’s contribution here. The beautiful finger style guitar and the sensitive vocal accompaniment make this a truly wonderful experience.

I have always loved this beautiful version of this song, and I am glad you listened to it. I have heard them play this acoustic version in the Virtual concert in May 2021, and live at the Montreal concert in May 2022 with the band joining in near the end. I am a native English speaker with a pretty good vocabulary, but I have had to hit the dictionary for these lyrics. I had to look up paean to understand it better: paean noun [ C ] literary A song, film, or piece of writing that praises someone or something very enthusiastically.

Lovely reaction. Tuomas's ode to human empathy. Second versus is a tribute to Floor and her family. :We met where the cliff greets the sea" Floor and Hannes meeting. "Shared a story, took the leap" They took the leap to become a couple. "Rose up rooted, hid a note. You know where. You've been there." Floor moving to Sweden with Hannes and creating a home in the forest. "Now there's one who came from me. A child of light, another tale" Floor and Hannes starting a family with the birth of their daughter Freya. Should also checkout the lyric video of the album version of the song and the other acoustic song from this show, Nemo. One of the big Nightwish hits with Tarja. I love the original music video with Tarja and also the stripped down slower version Floor did in her solo concert in Amsterdam.
