The original album recording worth checking out as well, esp. for the multiple voice layering (is that the correct term lol?) in some of the parts; obviously a frequent pattern with studio vs. live performances, including many Nightwish songs. Wonder if they've ever used additional/background singers in their concerts? Haven't ever seen them do that, I don't think.

@@username45739 They had background singers in the early days. One of them you can hear and see in their Eurovision performance and another one in that old TV performance of Sacrament of Wilderness and Gethsemane. I think it was 1998 or sth.

Oh my god, finally somebody made a reaction to this song. I asked so often for it, but since i not pay nobody listens of course. And even after 22 years i'm always blown away by the ending when she sings together with Emppu on guitar, thats just sooo damn beautiful. But the whole "From Wishes to Eternity" concert is just so good, love it since i first saw it 22 years back.

She did a nice job singing Mein Herr Marquis, consindering her vocal type, but not the best aria for her voice, it's more suited for coloraturas. She have a lot better performances singing arias from that same concert like Song to the Moon or Vilja Lied, also some of her best classical performances are from 2019s Noche escandinava.

I wanted to say something else Maggie, it's also best to hear the studio version of the song. In the verses there are two notes you can hear from Tarja almost simultaneously and as an echo effect, she does both a high note and a low note. Since you mentioned Floor could do a higher note, however given this is a live performance she had to stick with one note and it's obvious it's kind of more authentic to try and keep from relying on playback or backup recordings. That's just my take.

I can't help wondering what Floor and Tarja would sound like doing Stabat Mater Dolorosa as compared to Floor and Simone.

Tarja has a more rich and powerful dark voice she doesn’t sing like Simone or Floor they have more of a light voice yet beautiful. Tarja can do light voices just with just vocal freestyle but have never heard tarja sing like that. But I’ll tell you one thing Tarja is able to do it seamlessly she has a unique vocal style.

No "Jja" in the sound. She's a Finn, so it is part of the Nordic/Uralic pronunciation of their fairly complex lexicon.
