It works as an idea, but the execution is exactly the same as a bad mix, so it's really just a bad mix on purpose in the end. The good news is that the rest of the album likely isn't mixed the same way.

The video is so fascinating, as it starts with the big bang (tying TGSOE and Shoemaker with those space shots) a cosmogony bit, then continues with the reptile that jumps into the water, the very source of life. The detailed fact of what it takes for us to exist is just mindblowing. Ngl, the open shot of the diver floating in the ocean tickled my anxiety, especially as the light/bait on the giant anglerfish's head becomes slowly visible (terrifying as heck) Next step in the evolution process, are the primitive organisms changing time and time again, creating many different species, including the homo sapiens sapiens, the toolmaker, the human we are today, (aka Tuomas), it also shows the raw, predator-prey dynamic. The section on the natural history museum is my favourite. The fossils are super cool, and the old-looking encyclopedias stand beautifully on the shelves. Floor's free fall into her own history pages reminded me of Élan, loved seeing the different shots, like multiple sides of her. Then back to the water, finally, a sort of fusion between her and Tuomas appear to be the first "curious ghosts" to explore the museum, though Kai's is already there, reading (The Portrait of Dorian Gray? I mean, because of how his face turned into a skull), I'm not sure how he got there though, but I'm guessing that every time the diver comes out of the water, it represents each of them. Emppu's journey took me by surprise, he seems to be a peculiar jellyfish, though it makes sense, the man himself is quite peculiar in the best way. Troy observing and gently reaching out to the butterflies is a lovely scene, like cherishing the smallest, most fragile living beings. A badass breakdown, mixed with visuals that gave me Procession vibes. Jukka's ghost disintegrating like that gave me the idea of "ashes to ashes, dust to dust". The last shot of the diver floating with the whales is beautiful, I've always loved their calls/songs. Then, everything comes to a full circle with that drop of water that nurtures the earth. At the end of our journey through this world, we will go back to where we came from. We become one with mother nature.

The diver is floating with sperm whales. Which is important because they produce ambergris. A substance used, among other things, to make perfume. Fossilized ambergris are over a million years old, thus it ties in to the title-"Perfume of the timeless".

Nightwish doesn't serve the vocalist, it serves the music. It has always been that way.The band serves the music. The track sounds exactly how it's suppose to sound. It's just people that aren't used to hearing it that way. At first listen I didn't even notice that Floor isn't front and center.I was focusing figuring it all out. This track doesn't need any correction. Tuomas is perfectionist when it comes to music and this is how he meant this track to sound. There are already "corrected" sound versions where Floor's voice is more front and center .People are quick to jump into conclusions.Don't fix what isn't broken. It's good to see after all those Nightwish reactions Eric still takes the time with each track and actually has something to say.But he still have't watched Making endless forms most beautiful. Little look inside Tuomas' head and everything else. Here's to hoping he sometimes does. :)
@luisebritta61397 ай бұрын
I don't agree with your first statement. In my opinion Tuomas' unique skill was to create songs that would perfectly complement the vocals. When Tarja was in the band, he composed songs that would match her operatic singing style and during Annette's time in the band, he used a more rocky sound. For Floor, he offered both growls, as well as classical and atmospheric songs because she can literally sing anything. With this song, however, he has - in my opinion - changed that and composed piece of music which requires "a singer" and not THE current singer of the band. In fact, he created a story where the singer is supposed to blend in with the many voices of the many ancestors everyone of us has. But neither Floor (nor Tarja for that matter) have voices that are made to blend in with a choir. Quite the opposite actually. I appreciate his compositions but the music alone would never have the same effect on me as a symphonic metal song showcasing Floor's vocal abilities.
@jaanahedemaki69937 ай бұрын
@@luisebritta6139 "but the music alone would never have the same effect on me as a symphonic metal song showcasing Floor's vocal abilities."' This is not about you. This is how Tuomas makes music.Yes, he hears the singer's voice in his head when he composes.Apparently the voice wasn't the main attraction for him in this song. Singer does what the song requires in the end and it's not about showing their abilities and what they can do.Music comes first. That is A FACT with Nightwish. Music tells Tuomas how it wants to be told.That is also A FACT.Yes, Tarja's voice was his inspiration when they started and when Floor asked where she could breathe, Tuomas said that she'll figure it out.Always music first. It's not his fault that people are so fixated on singer even though this is an orchestral masterpiece like only Nightwish does.Big theme big sound.He did that. Yes, lets agree to disagree.

@@jaanahedemaki6993 Well, I was talking about my personal opinion and what I value in a song so, technically, yes, it was about me. i am obviously not saying Tuomas should adapt his compositions to my taste. I am only saying that I would prefer a song which uses Floor’s vocal abilities (and complements them) over a song which reduces her to a background voice. In my own ideal world, Floor would have a songwriter as skilled as Tuomas’ who would put her at the center of the composition (precisely like Tuomas used to do in the past).

I think one of the reason that people complain about Floor’s reduced role in the song is also because they spent the last 4 years watching her epic renditions of GLS, Storytime, Poet and so on over and over again. So when the new album was announced they were hoping for something equally bombastic but they got a song with an admittedly great video which focuses on telling a story but not giving Floor’s vocals the same room they had in all the live videos. So yes, maybe they picked this song as a first single because it lend itself perfectly for a story and video but I also understand that many people find it below expectations.

Ill admit the beginning kinda got me with the ancestral information for you to exist and then the line " you are the dream of many ancesters" made me choke up. ... and again choked up A bit when Troy came in at the end . I don't remember a Nightwish song that has sparked so many different takes ,feelings and views as this one has imho . Me personally, loved it . I think Tuomas purposely did what may sound like an engineering issue and floors voice too because hes such a perfectionist... I could be wrong of course . Thank you Eric for doing this , youre the best bro ... 🤘🏻🤘🏻

I love how Father Time, TROY, closes out the song in classic fashion.

I didn't know that term, "hot mix", but I totally agree. I totally wanted to hear what you think about it. I'm sure I'm not going deaf because your mix is amazing.

Thank you for the reaction, Eric! I had a hard time getting into this song, but the video eventually helped me. And the 5 or so times i listened to it by then. I feel that Floor's voice doesn't come through enough at times as well. But all in all, now i like the song 😃 It has been on my headphones now so much that i hear it even without listening to it. Thanks again Eric, catch you on stream later 🤘

This is like a continuation of Human Nature...to me. And that's not a bad thing. Can't wait for more songs to drop.

Can I say how much I appreciate you for pointing out the off production on this. The song is brilliant, production really fucks up the experience.

Greetings Eric. Just wanted to point out that Tuomas mentioned a while back that albums 8, 9, amd 10, are 3 parts of the "life and evolution" theme, like a movie trilogy. Looks like he dove deeper into his love for marine biology on this one. I agree, Floors vocals seemed a bit low in general from what we're used to. Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed. 😊❤️🤘🤘
