Thank you again. This song was not on the set list. There was a longer pause on the show and Marko said to Tuomas: " lets play our PF-tribute song now". So it was totally surprise when they started to play PF. I remember this concert like yesterday cause it was the biggest in Finland so far and it was Tarja's last performance with NW. Off course we did not know that back then.

This performance was from the 2005 concert in Helsinki. The DVD is called End of an Era because it is Tarja's last show with the band. Marko kills it, even David Gilmore loved this version. Tarja was offstage during this song for a wardrobe change. Another cover they did at this show was Phantom of the Opera. Others they have done include Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction, and Gary Moore's Over the Hills and Far Away. Tarja also covered Over the Hills at one of her solo shows as a duet with Floor.

I turned a life-long Pink Floyd fan (from Syd Barrett daze) into a Nightwish fan by letting him hear this. He made me play it twice more! My only complaint about this song is that it is too short! Marko used to regularly sing covers with Nightwish so the female singer (Tarja or Anette) could have a break - he sang Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Dio and...... plenty out there! Good job!

This old Metal Rock head has seen Pink Floyd 3 times in the 70s early 80s. This Tribute of the Division Bell by Nightwish fits my mantra of , My Favorite Nightwish song / Tribute is always the last one Ive listened to. ( notice the slight change ;-). I’ve got three generational cerebral spiritual bands influenced & move me, Pink Floyd, Tool & Nightwish . Each is continuing to of course present. If you haven’t check out Tool start with Lateralus, 46 & 2, Lyric videos. 1993 Sober Remastered a live performance to dip your toes into another incredible band. On Nightwish the Division Bell is not a cover it is a Tribute to Pink Floyd suggested by Marko ( huge Pink Floyd fan) to do when Tarja had a very complicated costume change. The Nightwish version is more hopeful and the Pink Floyd version is more of melancholy...... I must have seen this performance a 100 times and it's amazing that night wish was able to take the elements that make Pink Floyd what Pink Floyd is but sprinkle in Nightwish so thiso the song had the nuts and bolts of both bands which is not easy to do and I think I read somewhere that Pink Floyd has seen this version and they thoroughly enjoyed it........ I was very happy that you stated that it was a tribute to Pink Floyd because I think that's what it is a lot of people are saying that this isn't necessarily a cover song but a tribute to Pink Floyd in general. Great reaction this might be my favorite reaction that you guys have ever done to any song.

As a PF fan who saw the original played live on the Division Bell tour, I love this tribute. I know Nightwish has done other tributes. I think in the earlier concerts they would play a tribute song when Tarja took her mid concert break for a costume change. On more recent tours I think they a would play a piece of Celtic styled instrumental Nightwish music like "Last of the Wilds" when the singer takes a break. I don't think the current tour has a costume change break like before. Floor just removes her Costume Jacket for the second half of the show.

And I love your analagy about finding out two of your best friends know each other. Very apt. Like you said, this is a tribute song, and Nightwish didn't try to outdo the original, or change it up too much. They kept true to the original, but just added their secret sauce to it, and produced a performance worthy of Pink Floyd. Markko's vocals are stunning, with great breath contol, Jukka's drum fills are on point, and wee Emppu's solos are beautiful. That guy is such a talented guitarist. And, of course, we can't forget the genius who composed this tribute, Tuomas. He really nailed it on this one.

I too am a longtime Pink Floyd fan that has only discovered Nightwish in the past few years. I also saw Pink Floyd in 1988, in Dallas. Probably the best show I’ve ever been to. Hope I can see Nightwish someday, even without the great Marko Hietala. He is great. They actually did a lot of covers with Marko, live, during Tarja’s costume changes. This one, Ozzy’s Crazy Train, and Megadeth’s Symphony of Destruction were the most often used, but there are others too. They did many just once on their Nightwish cruise ship in 2015, including Pink Floyd’s Money (Marko and Troy acoustic.) High Hopes is easily their best cover in my opinion. He also recently won the Finnish version of the Masked Singer in 2020, and you can find some of those performances on KZbin as well. Keep exploring Nightwish!

The Pink Floyd version is more melancholy about days past. This version is more angst and loss. PF's might be from an older, more time has passed point of view. NW's is more immediate and fresh pain, which is appropriate for the circumstance of it being covered at this concert.

I Don’t think I ever have heard or seen David Gilmour do two hand tapping like Empu do here. For Pink Floyd fans I recommend a cover band named Brit Floyd. Their performance is close to the real thing. If they have a concert near you go and see them.

This version is excellent with marco's powerful vocals and empuu's tasteful guitar solos - i actually prefer it to the original. In terms of covers they did Megadeth "symphony of Destruction " Bucharest 2004 (Quality not the best but ok) also Ozzy "Crazy Train" (Quality poor - but still interesting to watch on your own time perhaps if you are Ozzy fans and funny to hear Marco describe Ozzy as a pigeon biter)

Not sure, but have you saw the Phantom of the Opera cover yet? If you haven't, that is amazing. Also there are "Over the hills and far away" cover and "Walking in the air" cover

I'm sure the army wouldn't mind if you further explored your love of covers by delving into the wonderful library being compiled by Floor. Start with Oblivion or Shallow.
