As far as I know last I heard Jukka is well and still works with the band behind the scenes. Although he hadn't played in the band since around 2014, he didn't officially leave as drummer until 2019 when Kai, who was replacement drummer, was finally named as permanent drummer.

Jukka is doing well. Last I heard, in an interview in 2020, Tuomas said that Jukka had played in a few shows that were small shows in 2019, right before the pandemic hit. In that interview, Tuomas said that the band basically let Jukka take the lead on how many songs, and what songs, he wanted to play. Evidently, his favorite song to play is Last Ride of the Day. Tuomas also said that after the third or fourth time, Jukka really wants to come back to the kit, and get back onstage. But he also said that should that happen, every precaution imaginable would be taken to make sure Jukka's mental health would be looked after and taken care of. When I read that last bit, it's how I knew, right then and there, that Nightwish wasn't just a band, but a family. Because I am one of the many fans that wants to see Jukka return. And as much as Kai has stepped in and done an incredible job, I much prefer Jukka's playing style over Kai's. Given the interview was in French, it was one of the few times I was thankful for Google Translate. #IMissThePirate

Nightwish is for me the best but others to give a listen to are: Sabaton - Sweden - Floor's husband Hannes is the drummer Unleash the Archers - Canada Within Temptation - Netherlands Visions of Atlantis - Austria The Warning - Mexico These are just a few of the groups I would suggest. Also, check out any of the Ayreon Project music. It is a supergroup with artists from many different bands including Nightwish. A good introduction would be The Day the World Breaks Down.

Tuomas, keyboards, is the main composer of the songs. Marko also made some songs, he played bass. Emppu , lead guitar also have done song or few and also does write many riffs and solos to songs.

Every song at this Wacken (Vah-ken) show was written for one of the first 2 female singers. Floor had only been with the band about 10 months here, having taken over mid tour. This song is from the Anette era. She has more of a pop/rock style and didn't do operatic vocals, so those were done with the choir then. As you see, Floor can, so she took over those parts when she joined. Tuomas Holopainen (keyboardist and primary songwriter and composer) likes themes of stories and childhood innocence. he's also a fan of Disney and composer Hans Zimmer. Yes, it is like reading a new book, Tuomas is well read, and takes inspiration from many sources not normally used in metal music. Suggest Romanticide ,Everdream, or Song of Myself. All from Wacken 2013.

Great comments, great reaction. Tuomas, the keyboardist/composer has that smile because 10 months earlier, in the middle of the USA tour, the lead singer Anette, became ill. That and the friction between her and the band, caused the dismissal of Anette, and mid tour, without a lead singer. They called Floor, who they knew from After Forever and Revamp, and asked her if she would help them finish the tour. Floor had 48 hours to learn the setlist and fly from The Netherlands and join the band in Seattle. So...10 months later, there they are at Walken 2013, in front of 82,000 festival metalheads, playing the concert of the decade. The whole band is happy. Happy that the band didn't disband, and happy that Floor has been singing songs he wrote, that he was afraid might never be played again. So much more to learn about this Band. Happy to watch you take this journey!!!

Such a great song, great performance, great show! That little operatic part was originally just the symphony choir, but when Floor joined the band, she said, ‘yeah, I’ll take that”. Next, you can either check out their more metal side, with Romanticide, or “start out a little bit softer… with Ever Dream”, both from this same Wacken show. This is a journey worth taking. Enjoy!

Greatest live show you'll ever see. I saw them for the first time in NYC back in May and I thought I was prepared, and I was not. They are all so talented, the energy is so high, and Floor's voice and stage presence - blew me away. Greatest show I have ever seen in my life. I'm still stunned, months later. Will now see them any chance I get and wish I found them years ago! Storytime might be my favorite, but Everdream is right up there, as is Song of Myself, Romanticde. Ghost Love Score obviously. You can't go wrong though with anything they perform live.

So glad to see you continuing on your NW journey. You have so much more to look forward to. And even after you have heard many of the song, you can still experience them through the different eras and different singers. Tarja, Anette, and Floor all bring their own strengths and special talents to these songs. The studio version of Story Time w/Anette is still fantastic (although I do prefer the live version with Floor). Imagine how awesome it would be to see them live, then dial that up to 11. They put on one of the best live shows I have ever seen and I have been to well over 150 live concerts with some of the biggest artists of the past half century.

Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer here...and he is performing here while he is not feeling well as he had been suffering for quite some time with severe insomnia. It was so bad he had to retire from playing with the band. He remained part of the band but handles the day to day stuff. But ya, he played awesome ...but when you consider he was suffering from severe insomnia at the time his performance is just that much more incredible! Kai Hahto took over for Jukka shortly after this (like in 2014) and became a permanent member of the band in 2019. Kai is just as phenomenal!

Great Reaction!! This song is more representative of Nightwish songs than Ghost Love Score, faster paced and more guitar. If you ever want to take a break from the Wacken 2013 songs, you should try a newer Nightwish song that Floor sang on their album. It's called How's The Heart. They did a regular video for the song, but the best way to listen to it is the acoustic version. You get to hear Floor's voice more clearly than when she's singing with the band. as everyone has said Tuomas writes the songs and gives a basic mapping out on keyboard of the song then each of the other band members creates their own parts, Emppu writes the guitar parts, Marco creates the bass lines, Jukka the drum fills and Floor looks at the vocal melody and works on the embelishments (or just how the hell you fit all the lyrics into the melody in some case!!) On occasion one of the other members has a song that fits the narrative that Tuomas has created and it will be added but I can only think of 4 or 5 in over 120 songs that this is the case. If you want a good look at the process they did a whole series of videos of the creation process for their album Endless Forms Most Beautiful which is quite fascinating as you don't often get to see a whole album creation process from conception through to tour.

Enjoyed your first Nightwish reaction...enjoyed this one, too, so subscribed to take this journey with you. Tuomas, the keyboard player, writes most of the music and lyrics. You really can't go wrong with any of these, and Gabriel's list is a great guide. As you move out of the Wacken 2013 comfort zone, you'll discover even more surprises...Marco, the bass player, with he long blond hair and beard, is also a fantastic singer (he has also left the band, so you'll see a different bass player from their most recent shows)...there is a sixth member of the band who only appears in a couple of songs in the Wacken 2013 show, but you'll see more of him in videos from subsequent shows, named Troy, and he plays all sorts of instruments, like Uilleann Pipes (Irish bagpipes), flutes, whistles, bouzouki (the thing everyone tries to call a mandolin), guitar, and he sings, as well...you'll see a different drummer in videos from shows after Wacken 2013...and mostly, that no two if their songs really sound the same. After NW i like EPICA most, their singer Simone Simons and Floor are very good friends and they did some songs together, "Sancta Terra" or "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" for example. I think you two would like Epica, i would look from the virtual "Epica - Omega Alive" conzert they did last year one of this songs for first tine hearing, "The Skeleton Key", "Unchain Utopia" or "Kingdom of Heaven Part 3"! This Wacken 2013 concert is still a blast to listen to. My favorite is Song of Myself inspired by Walt Whitman's poem with the same title. Looking forward your reaction to it! Another suggestion for a new band is Sabaton from Sweden. Their drummer Hannes van Dahl is Floor's husband. They live in Sweden with their 5 yr old daughter Freja. Sabaton's songs have all to do with wars, battles and persons who played a role in it. They have their own YT channel but also a phenomenal History Channel in which they explain the backgrounds of a lot of their songs. If you're interested please watch it, you may learn a lot haha. Song suggestions from them: Bismarck, Christmas Truce, The Great War. They make very good videos of their songs, amongst them quite a lot amazing animations! My favorite is Christmas Truce.

Never understood people's need to tear down other bands. Music, like all art, is very personal and highly subjective. I love both Nightwish and Epica. They are from the same genre but different and both amazing. Instead of putting down other bands state why you prefer one band. That is a more positive and valuable contribution to our discussion. Just watched Epica's 20th anniversary concert livestream yesterday. Magical. Just like when I saw Nightwish live in Boston in May.

Fam, Floor has her own YT channel. Friday is Fan Friday, where she answers questions from her fans. It is often very funny. Question: Who snores the loudest in your bedroom??? Answer first our wolfhound, second Hannes (husband) and than me, grinning. Also she told us, that she is an official vocal coach, teaching master classes. Did you check out her solos. There even is a metal "Ave Maria"😄. Elmar from Germany. Oh, the naxt one should be Romanticide with Marco (bassist) also singing.

You will love to watch the opener of this concert, it´s "Dark Chest of Wonders" (with intro, HD video and correct playback speed : kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6vGqmaXbtZrlZI ) fyi: Floor is the 3rd and actual singer, she entered 2012 while Nightwish were Worldtouring. She got 48h to learn 20songs, and performed on 1. october 2012 her first gig. this is live on youtube to see, but not official. Wacken 2013 was on the first weekend in august (as always), so she was ~10 months with the band ! None of the songs were written for her ... after you are done with wacken ( romanticide, song of myself, last ride of the day (concert and festival closer) ), you might want more and i highly recommend "Shudder before the Beautiful" live wembley 2015 oh, thats a lot ... yes ;)

NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. Some dont realize we are witnessing a legendary group of this Generation the likes of Mozart, Metallica, Queen, Pink Floyd. IMO greatest band of all time! Toumas is Definitely the Metal Mozart of our lifetime!❤

Floor has classical training, and can sing metal, rock, opera, pop, ballads, etc in several different languages. Wait till you discover her version on Lady Gaga's "Shallow." Sorry Lady G but Floor owns that song now. She sings it on 'Best Zengers" (2019) a Dutch TV show where a group of invited Dutch singers, sing each others songs or songs that will have an important meaning to another guest. There are 8 epidodes, Floor sings in 7 of them. One of the 8 episodes has the other guests singing songs to pay tribute to Floor. You will eventually wind your way to discovering 'Best Zengers'. I will be watching.

You jave allready got several suggeations for next from nightwish...but here are mine. Nemo and/or Wishmaster with yhe original singer Tarja. Phantom of the opera cover (also Tarja) ...and after a few more songs "greatest ahow on earth" but it feels to early on the journey for a 30 minute piece yet. Lol.

They keyboard player, Tuomas Holopainen, is the primary composer. It's hard to say for sure looking from the outside in, but judging from various interviews and documentaries and such it seems like he has composed at least 95% of whatever Nightwish has put out since 1996, probably closer to 99%. Their work routine for new albums seems to follow the pattern of Tuomas creating the backbone of all the songs on his own, him making the demo versions of each of the songs, and then the other band members joining in at various degrees after that. I assume that during band practice they iron out the details according to everyone's individual qualities. Marko Hietala, the ex-bassist of Nightwish (who also played bass in these two songs you've reacted to, he was a member from 2001 to 2021), is the one who was the most active in that remaining about 1-5% of composing that Tuomas didn't do. There are a couple songs where he put in actual composing effort, and then from the various documentaries and interviews there's this sense that for a long time he was the first to listen to the demos from Tuomas and they worked on the stuff together a bit before the rest of the band joined in - It seemed to be like this at least for a few albums. The making of Endless Forms Most Beautiful -documentary tells about the EFMB album (2015), which is the first one they made after Floor joined the band in late 2012. In that documentary they talked a bit about transforming towards a more band-centric approach where Tuomas doesn't hold the demos quite as long as he did before.
