Masterpiece. Tuomas called this song his magnum opus. And I love that keyboard part at the begining. My next recommendation from Wacken: NIGHTWISH - Ghost Love Score (OFFICIAL LIVE) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIrNep9-jKd0jNE

I love the wee hug and pat on the back Floor gives to Tuomas, as they leave the stage. She has been such a good fit in the band. Floor actually sounds quite emotional when she thanks the crowd, after the last 'We were here'.

Philosophical or not, you are spot on Jim. I was there and it really was so emotional. There is so much more to this band. You have just scratched the surface, the list is endless as they've been going longer than many think. I recommend, Nemo, Ever Dream, Wish I had an Angel, Storytime, Yours is an Empty Hope, Shudder before the Beautiful, Amaranth, The Islander........... There really are so many wonderful songs. Welcome to the world of Nightwish!!

As others have mentioned the actual song has at least one more part in it. Ahh. This song has soo many layers in it. - The Metallica riff was a part of a musical evolution in that part, next came generic boom boom- beat, before was classical and old instruments, you can really notice this in the studio version. - This song and pretty much all NW songs are partly recorded in London with a full filharmonic orchestra and choirs, in the same studios a lot of famous movie scores have been made. - Not to mention the quotes from the world famous biologist Richard Dawkings, who I adore. He went on stage with them in Wembley arena and loved it :) - When you start forgetting about this song, you should dig up the lyrics and listen to the studio recording with thought. - I'm really glad that the biggest Finnish musical entity is this band and not some generic pop, this is why we are the happiest country in the world 2018 :D - Life really is the greatest show on Earth, and this just might be the best composition on Earth, cheers!

The only bad thing about Nightwish that I have experienced is Dawkins. An arrogant, strutting cocksure peacock who represents everything that NIghtwish isn't. Why they insist on this liaison with him is beyond me. Oh, and I'm not in the least bit religious in case anyone thinks otherwise. I just can't stand the twat.

This is the most phenomenal creation of Nightwish and there biggest show ever. I can tell, I was there. Did you recognize the male voice talking on the background? That is Richard Dawkins. He made some parts in their latest album. The composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen has once said "Nightwish is more than just a band. It's a state of mind". Later he called it even "a Vehicle of Spirit" which actually became the title of this DVD package that includes this show in Tampere and Wembley also. There is a reason why Nightwish has climbed the ultimate most successful band in Finland ever. 11 million sold albums world wide. Tuomas is one of the top composers in the World of this time. He is in the same league with guys like Hans Zimmer and Howard Shore. Nightwish has some of these massive masterpieces and you have checked out like the three biggest ones already :D I can tell the others too: Ghost Love Score (Live at Tampere) Greek Mary's Blood (End of an Era LIVE) Beauty of the Beast 7 Days to the Wolves (Live at Barona Areena) Higher than Hope Some other great performances: Ever Dream (Live at Wacken) Shudder Before the Beautiful (Live at Tampere) Last Ride of the Day (Live at Tampere) Alpenglow (Live at Tampere) Romanticed (Live at Wacken) Storytime (Live at Wacken) Weak Fantasy (Live at Tampere) Stargazers (Live at Tampere) Bless the Child (Live at Wacken) While Your Lips Are Still Red (Live at Wembley) The Phantom of the Opera (cover, End of an Era LIVE)

Jabrane Amami.... Richard Dawkins wrote The Selfish Gene and The God Delusion. One of the most significant thinkers and scientists of our time. Totally respect his immense intellect and for building on Darwin's theory of evolution. If only our politicians were the likes of Dawkins and David Attenborough rather than the idiots we find our selves with, the world would be a much better place.

Part 1 Congratulations! You've discovered one of the best bands in the world! Welcome to the beautiful and wonderful world of Nightwish and its huge loving, loyal, very dedicated and ever growing fan community (Nightwish Army 🤘🏻)! If you choose to come with us down this Elvenpath and take this Last Ride Of The Day, you're in for a real musical treat. Once your senses get tantalised with Élan, you will Shudder Before The Beautiful, let the Dark Passion Play with your emotions and let yourself be filled with wonder and amazement on this epic journey through this Imaginaerum. Prepare yourself for the End Of Innocence. Open your heart to the Wishmaster and enjoy exploring everything Nightwish has to offer. To start off, here's some information for you to get acquainted with the band, it's members, it's history and it's vision. Nightwish is a female fronted Symphonic Metal band from Kitee, Finland. It was founded in July 1996 by keyboard player Tuomas (pronunciation: u = w, o as in 'cold') Holopainen (pronunciation: pai like 'pie'). No less than a musical genius, a beautiful sensitive poet and a visionary. Nightwish gets its name from the song 'Nightwish', one of the first three songs that appeared on the first demo of the band. Tuomas is the heart, lifeblood, mind and soul of Nightwish. He is the composer and main lyricist. He also wrote most of the orchestral arrangements and does most of the mixing as well. It's fairly safe to say that 95% of everything Nightwish comes from Tuomas. Tuomas' main influences come from film music, video games and fantasy novels. He's a passionate gamer and considers himself to be an Escapist. Tuomas draws inspiration from fantasy novels, including Wishmaster, Escapist, and Wanderlust, which have elements from the Dungeons & Dragons Dragonlance series, and Stephen King's The Dark Tower series among others, but also fairy tales, folklore, myths, saga's, legends, real life, history, nature, religion, science, evolution. His biggest influence and inspiration is film score composer Hans Zimmer. Tuomas' greatest ambition is to write film music. At its inception Nightwish was meant to be a folk band with a keyboard player, an acoustic guitarist and a vocalist. In 1996 guitarist Erno "Emppu" (pronunciation: pu like 'poo') Vuorinen (pronunciation: i = ee as in 'bee') was the first to join the band, playing acoustic guitar. Also in 1996 Tuomas asked his then classmate from the music academy, the classically trained female operatic singer Tarja (pronunciation: tar like 'car', j = y as in 'yes') Turunen (pronunciation: both u's = oo as in 'look') to join. When Tarja was 6 years of age she took piano lessons from Tuomas' mother. Tuomas was very impressed by the way Tarja had developed her voice into a strong soprano, that he decided Nightwish should be a metal band. Hence forward they swapped the acoustic guitar for an electric guitar and decided to experiment with drums. In 1997 Emppu's friend and drummer Jukka (pronunciation: j = y as in 'yes', ukka like 'ooka' as in 'bazooka') Nevalainen (pronunciation: neva like slang for 'never', lai like 'lie') joined. Finally, in 1998 bass player Sami (pronunciation: sa as in 'elsa', mi like 'me') Vänskä (pronunciation: both ä's = a as in 'van' or 'can') joined. Nightwish was complete. In 2001, due to musical differences and behavioral issues, Sami was replaced by current bassist and great vocalist Marko Hietala (pronunciation: hi like 'he', et as in 'met', ala as in 'massala'). In 2005, due to several serious issues, Tarja was fired from the band. This will be explained later as the impact of it was so severe that Nightwish almost ceased to exist. In 2007 Tarja was replaced by pop/rock singer Anette Olzon from Sweden. In 2012 multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley from the UK, who plays Uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes), bouzouki, different flutes, acoustic guitar and sings occasionally, was asked to work and perform live with Nightwish on a regular basis. Also in 2012, due to the main fact that all bands members agreed she vocally did not fit well with the band and the musical direction they were going into, together with the fact that she wasn't accepted very well by the fans and the media, on top of that the facts that she was pregnant and later got hospitalized because of a flu during the North American leg of a world tour and the band almost had to cancel a show, Anette was fired and temporarily replaced by the current and most versatile singer of them all, Floor Jansen (pronunciation: j = y as in 'yes', a as in 'car') from the Netherlands. In 2013 both Troy and Floor became official members. In 2014, due to health issues (insomnia), Jukka left the band temporarily and was replaced by his good friend and current drummer Kai Hahto (formerly Wintersun). As it turned out, in 2019 Jukka's temporary absence became permanent and Kai became an official member. Till this day Jukka remains very much involved with the band behind the scenes. This makes Nightwish complete as it is at this moment. To be continued ...

This is just epic, both the performance and the song itself. The narrator is Prof. Richard Dawkins, btw. He actually attended the Wembley show on this tour and did the voice stuff live. As to where to go next, it can only be Wintersun--Sons of Winter and Stars live rehearsal at Sonic Pump studios. 14 1/2 minutes of the most epic melodic death metal ever recorded, and the genius behind that band, Jari Maenpaa, is on par with Tuomas from Nightwish. And...Kai Hahto, the current Nightwish drummer, also happens to be in Wintersun. He gets quite the workout in the song...I think Jari was trying to kill him hahaha, but relented and put a little break in the middle for him to catch his breath :).

Ok Jim! Thanks for the reaction. Now I think it's time for "Ghost love score at Wacken 2013"! It's the song that made me a BIG FAN after just listening them once in a while and just liking them almost 20 years before finally heard this version with Floor and fell in LOVE immediatly. I recommend this version because I think that all the little pieces are in their places at wacken show, filming, sound and stuff. And I think that Floor is at her best also in this one but maybe even above that, what I really enjoy is Jukka hitting those drums at the end of the song. He's on fire🔥! Just love it!! Hope you do the only right decision there is.😂😂

I will try not to bother you to much about checking out their songs..........hehehe There are a lot of songs to choose from as Mikko Laine listed. Check out the other singers. The lyrics, for those interested: Archaean horizon The first sunrise On a pristine gaea Opus perfectum Somewhere there, us sleeping After sleeping through a hundred million centuries We have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with color, bountiful with life Within decades we must close our eyes again Isn't it a noble and enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun To work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it? The cosmic law of gravity Pulled the newborns around a fire A careless cold infinity in every vast direction Lonely farer in the Goldilocks zone She has a tale to tell From the stellar nursery into a carbon feast Enter LUCA The tapestry of chemistry There's a writing in the garden Leading us to the mother of all We are one We are a universe Forebears of what will be Scions of the Devonian sea Aeons pass Writing the tale of us all A day-to-day new opening For the greatest show on Earth Ion channels welcoming the outside world To the stuff of stars Bedding the tree of a biological holy Enter life The tapestry of chemistry There's a writing in the garden Leading us to the mother of all We are one We are a universe Forebears of what will be Scions of the Devonian sea Aeons pass Writing the tale of us all A day-to-day new opening For the greatest show on Earth We are here to care for the garden The wonder of birth Of every form most beautiful Every form most beautiful We are one We are a universe Forebears of what will be Scions of the Devonian sea Aeons pass writing the tale of us all A day-to-day new opening For the greatest show on Earth After a billion years The show is still here Not a single one of your fathers died young The handy travelers out of Africa Little Lucy of the Afar Gave birth to fantasy To idolatry To self-destructive weaponry Enter the God of gaps Deep within the past Atavistic dread of the hunted Enter Ionia, the cradle of thought The architecture of understanding The human lust to feel so exceptional To rule the Earth Hunger for shiny rocks For giant mushroom clouds The will to do just as you'd be done by Enter history, the grand finale Enter ratkind Man, he took his time in the sun Had a dream to understand A single grain of sand He gave birth to poetry But one day'll cease to be Greet the last light of the library Man, he took his time in the sun Had a dream to understand A single grain of sand He gave birth to poetry But one day'll cease to be Greet the last light of the library Man, he took his time in the sun Had a dream to understand A single grain of sand He gave birth to poetry But one day'll cease to be Greet the last light of the library We were here! We were here! We were here! We were here! "We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born The potential people who could have been here in my place But who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA So massively exceeds the set of actual people In the teeth of those stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds How dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state From which the vast majority have never stirred?" There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers Having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one And that whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity From so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been And are being, evolved"

What a show. Great reviews. I'm in my 60s. Grew up going to the symphony at the Cow Palace, listening to Pablo Casals and playing the cello. Nowadays, I fall (mostly dead and hazard) trees in the high mountains and ride my Ducati. I listen to 40s and 50s era orchestral dinner and dancing music, bagpipes and (especially) northern European symphonic, melodic, viking and folk metal. Recomending Insomnium, 'Into The Woods' or 'Out To The Sea' and Omnium Gatherum 'New Dynamic' and Wintersun, live, remastered, from Tuska, 'Winter Madness'. hey man just found your channel and I'm enjoying your videos. you should know that this is the first song that you have reacted to which is floors own song. This is off the album endless forms most beautiful which is the first studio album to feature floor as vocalist. Both song of myself and poet and the pendulum were written with previous vocalists so floor is essentially covering the songs and for the vast majority of them I and many fans prefer her versions. she has way more power and stage presence and a more diverse voice kind of the best of both previous singers rolled into one but better.

The Uilleann pipes sound amazing in the beginning, I completely agree with the "ohh, that's nice!" comment. What a cool sound. :D It'd be really nice having him play a "full length" version just on the pipes to be honest, it sounds so relaxing. :)

Part 2 The tensions that existed between the band members and Tarja, including Tarja's husband/manager Marcelo Cabuli (an executive at an Argentinian record company), built up over the course of several years until in 2005 a breaking point was reached and the whole band couldn't take it any longer. Here are some facts that contributed to the final decision to fire Tarja: - Tarja kept hidden from the band that she got married to Marcelo Cabuli. Marcelo was not liked by the band. - Marcelo, as her manager, meddled too much in band affairs that were not his business in the first place and created a wedge between Tarja and the band. As a result Tarja kept a certain distance from the band that certainly is not good if you are in this band together, working extensively with eachother. - Marcelo did everything he could for Tarja to get more money out of it. This didn't sit well with the band, because they were formed based on equality. - Tarja never participated in writing and arranging the songs. - Tarja never rehearsed with the band and only came to the studio to record the songs. - Tarja didn't want to travel with the band during tours. Instead she traveled with her husband. - Before shows Tarja remained in her own dressing room, only to join the rest of the band while going on stage. - Tarja apparently couldn't understand that Nightwish always was and always will be all about the band as a collective and not about her as an individual, eventhough she was the front woman and main vocalist. Therefore, certain often displayed diva-like behaviour was not accepted by the band. - Marcelo convinced Tarja that she didn't need Nightwish and would be better off going on a solo career. - Tarja had already planned to leave the band after the next album and tour. Directly after the final concert of the tour and recording of their DVD "End Of An Era" Tarja got fired by the whole band unanimously by means of an open letter, in which content she could not recognise herself, as she stated herself the next day in an open letter as well (both letters can be found on internet). Fact is that Nightwish is hugely popular in Finland and is regarded as partly responsible for putting Finland on the global map. Tarja is very well liked and highly regarded in Finland. She is adored by fans and media. Needless to say that it came as a shock to everyone to learn that she was fired from Nightwish. It was all over the news on tv and radio, in newspapers and magazines nationwide and internationally. Even the prime minister of Finland was briefed about the news. Fans and media were outraged. As the leader of the band, Tuomas alone was blamed by almost everyone for firing the people's darling Tarja, eventhough that decision was made unanimously by everyone in the band. He took the blame upon himself and had not only to deal with Tarja leaving, but also all of the fallout and backlash that came with it. This left Tuomas severely heartbroken and heavily depressed. Any speculations about Tuomas having had romantic feelings for Tarja are not proven and not confirmed. There still are some speculations that he might have had suicidal thoughts at that time. Whether that's true or not is only known to the poet himself and a few insiders. The band as a whole was deeply scarred by these events. Tuomas never fully recovered from this. He wrote the song 'The Poet And The Pendulum' about his feelings of it all and figuratively committed suicide in the lyrics. Fact is that, during what Tuomas calls "the dark period", he went home to his parents (his "Dreamer's Hideaway") for recuperation and had a long talk with them. The lyrics in the last part of the song are in fact the words Tuomas' mother spoke to him to console him. During the performance of that last part of the song Emppu and Marko are standing by his side to support him. Because it still hurts him to this day Tuomas doesn't wear his ear monitor throughout the performance of 'The Poet And The Pendulum'. Floor gets compared a lot to Tarja. Both ladies are great, but Floor is the most versatile and has better techniques. Floor briefly studied classical and operatic singing and is also a vocal coach. She can sing operatic, rock, metal, pop and she can do low growls/grunts. That makes her equipped to sing all songs from both Tarja's era and from Anette's era and much more. Floor manages to elevate songs that were originally written for Tarja and Anette to a much higher level. Anette has strong vocals and a beautiful sound, but her vocal abilities and style do not fit the band's musical character. Floor has an amazing vocal range and a great feeling for dramatics. She definitely knows how to tell a story. She has the ability to get into the emotions of the lyrics and deliver the songs as if she's living and feeling those emotions at that exact moment. That's pure talent. However great a singer Tarja is, she also sings with much emotion in her voice, she's never been able to deliver it like Floor does. Tarja lacks the imagination to empathize with the lyrics and their meaning. Floor really makes you feel the songs as they were written and how they're meant to be heard. She makes the songs come to life even more. Have fun on this epic journey into the beautiful and wonderful world of Nightwish and enjoy every precious second of it! Spread the love! Nightwish songs I recommend you to react to are: Romanticide (Wacken 2013), Yours Is An Empty Hope (Wembley 2015), Ghost River, The Poet And The Pendulum (Wembley 2015 or Wembley 2016, definitely with lyrics, it's not recommended to listen to this song first before any other Nightwish songs), Ever Dream, Élan, My Walden, Shudder Before The Beautiful, The Islander (Tampere 2015, Marko singing). By the way, you should definitely check out Epica, the "Retrospect" concert (10 year anniversary) complete with full orchestra and choir, featuring Floor Jansen as a guest singing in duet with Simone Simons on the songs 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa' (a classical piece by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi) and 'Sancta Terra'. I'm sure you'll love it. Enjoy!

Hello Jim , I lived in Tampere for 11 years and it's pronounced Tam-pe-re, you have to pronounce all the letters with a rolled R like spanish, it was hard to pronouce for me as well, never got the r's right when I lived there. And I never saw Nightwish in Tampere, instead I went to see Def Leppard and Yes in Helsinki. ! I saw Nightwish in Montreal with Kamelot, which you don't have on your channel yet...

Hey Jim, love your reactions. I sifted through your videos looking to see if you reacted to the ghost love score, and you did. However, the one you reacted to does not compare to the live version Floor did when she sang the song after Tarja was out of the band. She changed the end to have a climactic ending, which Nightwish fans now have coined "the floorgasm." That song, that version of it has really sky rocketed the bands success by bringing in new people like myself. I would suggest reacting to that video. Just look for the video that has the most views lol

I think most would say GSOE is their magnum opus. It doesn't get any bigger than this epic. But there is lots of discography far surpassing the norm of quality and awesomeness. Digging back a little deeper, I recommend this classic performance of Ghost Love Score with the original opera singer, Tarja Turunen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqfRaJtnoJiApZo - It is great to listen to this 2005 version with Tarja (I especially like the massive confetti cannons during the climax) and then do a flashforward to 2013 to see what the current singer Floor Jansen has done with it by adding her signature twist to the ending. (It is more astounding to experience the moment if you have seen Tarja's first, IMHO.) Metal webzine writers began referring to the moment as "the audience having a Floorgasm!"
