My favorite Nightwish song from my favorite album. It's a pity they don't play it anymore. This song has a weird (in a good way) combination of symphonic/power metal, death metal growls, Tarja's 'operatic' voice, and the amazing keyboard sounds from Tuomas. The whole album is quite a magical journey.

This is one of the most grandeur songs ever they have made. Tapio Wilska (from band Trio Niskalaukaus) growls epicly his role and Tarja is fantastic as always. This whole concert is immortal. I hope that one day they will have Tarja, Tapio and also Jukka + Sami on the stage again and they will do this !!!

She moves her mouth like that, because it's a simple lip exercise taught to you by your opera teacher. She does this several times before she holds a long note, or a high one. This way , when she hits the long , and high notes, she can keep the same key . For if her mouth moves even an milimeter, the sound is different :)

Ms. Jansen's head voice is weak in comparison to Tarja and her classical style singing is inferior. That's why she sings the way she does using mostly her chest voice. It's also why tuomas writes the music that way now and why he doesn't want her to sing that way. tuomas would love for Floor to be able to sing songs like this one or Phantom of the Opera as good as or better than Tarja, because it would be his way of showing everyone that Tarja wasn't so special. The problem is Tarja is special and Floor simply doesn't have the powerful head voice Tarja does. So, if Floor sang songs like this one or Phantom of the Opera it would suck in comparison to Tarja's versions and that would chafe tuomas bung hole even more. So, his excuse to save face and avoid chaffing of the bung hole, is that "he doesn't want that anymore". Check out Tarja's Supremacy cover from Hellfest and the crazy high notes she hits with her powerful head voice. Floor simply cannot sing like that.

It's not the mystery, when you want to hit the note perfectly you have to imagine it and prepare your body (you know diapragma, mouth etc.) to do it and this is what she is doing when she move her mouth without singing.

During that early time (from AFF to Wishmaster) Tarja was so unbelievably amazing that nobody could really match her (not even Tarja herself later). Still, the early NW material is so strong (and Floor such a versatile vocalist) it would be interesting to hear Floor sing this and other older songs (Stargazers, Gethsemane, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Sun, Dead Boy`s Poem, Deep Silent Complete, Tutankhamen, Elvenpath, Sacrament of Wilderness etc)...

Tapio was great at stuff like this. He has the perfect voice for it. This was one of the downsides of Marco coming into the band. When he replaced Sami tuomas looked to him to be a jack of all trades and take over duties like this so they didn't need "guest vocalist" like this for special roles. I guess that was probably a lot more practical for them and probably saved them some money, but It feels like a compromise to me.
