+leerobbo92 As a complete newbie to the band I must say it is a controversy filled comment section on every video. I would agree with this statement completely. Only I've only watched videos of Floor live, she still rocks it. That being said I've watched some early era stuff with Tarja, and while I recognize her incredible vocal talent. I tend to lean Floor's way as she does fit the metal queen role fairly well, and jive with the band perfectly. All this aside Marco the bassist/vocals is the real shining star for me. Damn that guy rocks, amazing voice and facial hair. As long as he's in there all is well in my opinion. Which doesn't matter much as I'm just new.

+Shawn Powerz I absolutely agree with you. Every Nightwish lady has brought a little something to the band, and they should be respected for this. No matter the frontwoman, they were all epic in their own way. But I really can't imagine the Nightwish music without Marco, even if he's not one of the founding members. For me he's the special vocal (and bassist) thing that makes NW.

This is a good SINGLE. A lot of people here didn't understand the purpose of a SINGLE. The song has to be short, easy-listening and, in the case of Nightwish, meant to give us some kind of preview of what the album will be. When I see "too weak", "too poppy" it makes me laugh. Heavy guitar is still there, can you tell me what is not "metal" in this song? 'Cause I can't see it... IMO this single is in the same path previous Nightwish singles' took. Ever Dream, Nemo, Bye Bye Beautiful, Storytime... In their structure, they are kind of similar, so stop complaining and wait for the album to come... This song is beautiful and it's what I expect from Nigthwish. Heavy and melodic. Sick of all these "That was better then before"... EVOLVE!

I am 43years old finnish man. I can honestly say that most of the times i cant remember when i had cried, like watery eyes that is result of emotions, feelings, memories etc in my brain. Sadly i can add one milestone when i allways remembered when i cried, that was when my, close to me and dear dad suddenly passed away from bloodstroke in his brains. He was 73. When i heard that, i remember the shock etc, no tears. In funeral, ofc i was carrying coffin on the heart side, like oldest son have to do. Bo tears. After funeral day, me and my sister were taking couple drinks my late dad apartment. I had all feelings for that situation, i think, but no tears, until i just before going sleep was going to smoke last cigarette on the balkony. Walking there, near of balkonys door, i just suddendly see picture of my dad, with casual sports/comfort clothes on, standing hand in pockets, and having that funny, peacuful smile he had, i collapse in that second, and tears start to flow, my sister who was in kitchen, scared that subben burst of scream and cry..her and mine children was sleeping in one room, i dont know they woke up or not. My point is, what this band do, that when i follow story, lyrics, visuals..everything..i often have to pause, that i dont start to cry. Two things made me cry last years, my dads death and nightwish🤔😅. Have to remember that i love my two children more than myself, but they also hasnt been able to make me weeping. At least not last couple years. Still, i say again, all the feelings, pride, worry etc that father must have, i definetily had. I am not saying, that this kind of trait is good or bad, its neutral and useless theme for deeper analyze, i think. But finnish culture is very stoic and cold, or it can be seen like that by outsiders standards. Problem that i dont cry easily, i feel like at least, is just some technical thing, tears just dont come. I can harden myself also convenient way, but it is fact that i am quite emotional person, and that makes it more interesting for me... Sorry, just have to share in this nightside hours... This band do something correct. Allways appreciated, no matter genre, if somebody deliver with quality that, what and how they try to deliver. I am fan of metal music, and liked to listen this band from 2000-->...only last couple months its gone this deep, strange but enjoyable level...

I wasn't a big Anette fan either really. I preferred Tarja, but I never disliked Anette at all either. Escapist is one of my very favorite Nightwish songs, and I think it's a song Tarja wouldn't have been able to do as well as Anette. (I know, blasphemy right?)
@artsenor2549 жыл бұрын
I can't agree with all of you, I still consider it's getting worse and worse, but not that much. Yeah, Tarja's voice was something (Though I've never been a huuuuge fan of Nightwish and I just don't like Tarja's solo project), Anette would certainly not have been able to sing as Tarja did, but she didn't try. She was singing her own style on a Nightwish instru'. That was still fine, but I kind of missed the little plus Tarja's voice was giving. And as far as Floor's concerned... I don't know, I hear the new songs as mere symphonic metal songs, just as I could hear a song from Within Temptation or Sirenia (If you're actually a huge fan of either these bands, my deepest apologies, I can't stick with them that much). That's pretty much it. I think Nightwish has lost step by step what made this band so unique, to become something more usual. I'm sure many persons used to listen symphonic metal will be fine with this (but the pro-Tarja haters, of course), but I'm kind of done with this band.

@beldin29872 жыл бұрын
In the beginning they wanted to be more of a folk band, but then when Tarja came back from her classic studies Tuomas thought her voice was now way too powerful for that and then he tried something different. The first album, "Angels fall first", has also still quite a lot folky stuff on it. Who knows, maybe Tuomas also one day does what Ritchie Blackmoore did with Blackmores Night and goes back to full folk and medieval stuff.

Nope. I hope she leaves and... MANUELA KRALLER or DIANNE VAN GIERSBERGEN replaces her :) I don't get it. I don't get all that hype about Floor. I couldn't find anything I can catch myself to in EFMB. Everything seemed to me like "chew-and-spit-Tarja-era-like-album" but without the proper opera vocals it just sounds like a power metal cliché. NOTHING original there (I could stand and even like Anette's period because it had some very nice tracks like Ghost River; Master Passion Greed, Bye Bye Beautiful; Slow, Love, Slow; Seven Days to the Wolves, Eva, Song of Myself) (nothing against power metal though). I haven't listened to After Forever yet (don't know when this is going to happen though - in may be 5-6 years will be my next symphonic metal series) but I on that purpose heard the first album's first tracks... And there... Surprise! She actually sings decent opera! Where is this thing now??? If I can ask Tuomas for bad songwriting or even her? And where are the growls she can sing? This voice and what she's capable of - this is the perfect prerequisite for great variability... And what do we get? That generic meh. I think Nigthwish is ABSOLUTELY waisting Floor's potential as a singer. And another thing to note - the highest note she hit on that stupid album was like E5 or F5. Once. In one song (I forgot which one though) While, in ReVamp, she used to hit G5 on a songly basis. So, even only at the CLEAN vocals she is singing here, she is NOT at her full potential. The only thing I have as hope is the next album in... 2020 said Tuomas? (And note this - 2 albums in the span of 9 years - 2011 Imaginaerium, then 4 years until EFMB and 5 years until one that is yet to be released, while they used to release an album for every 2, 3 or worst case, 4 years - which literally, combined with what EFMB is, SHOUTS to me that Tuomas seems to have lost inspiration). I hope it will be better because I'd officially get the band out of my "to-trace" list and won't care for the following album after 2020 unless the community starts shouting that it is a change.

@@gabmir Hi there. Yes, you are right. We have our personal preferences in how we like singers to perform their songs. I like Nightwish-Tarja era live shows since I got and watch their "From Wishes to Eternity" and "End of an Era" in December last year. Tarja is memorably soulful when she sings ballads like Swanheart, Sleeping Sun, Siren etc, and powerfully compelling and edgy when she sings songs like Kinslayer, Planet Hell, Slaying the Dreamer. I really doubt Anette and Floor can put me in a bit of a fear and awe in her renditions of those songs as it should be. I know. We are supposed to have a jolly good time at a rock concert and the current Nightwish lineup delivers that. But, I envy those who saw Nightwish live during their shock and awe first era when they were like Nordic gods and a goddess hectoring, recounting, reminding mortals of human foibles and failures with alternating soulful sorrow and thundering convictions. Regards

Alexander Kolev I can't decide which I enjoy more... the album track or the alternative... it will probably depend on my mood. Either way, I find myself liking the song more and more. It is no Ghost Love Score, nothing compares to that song, but I am beyond excited for the full album. Nightwish will always be my favorite band

Leave the sleep and let the springtime talk In tongues from the time before man Listen to a daffodil tell her tale Let the guest in, walk out, be the first to greet the morn The meadows of heaven await harvest The cliffs unjumped, cold waters untouched The elsewhere creatures yet unseen Finally your number came up, freefall awaits the brave Come, taste the wine Raise the blind They will guide you from the light Writing noughts till the end of time Come, surf the clouds Race the dark It feeds from the runs undone Meet me where the cliff greets the sea The answer to the riddle before your eyes Is in dead leaves and fleeting skies Returning swans and sedulous mice Writing's on the gardens book, in the minute of a lover's look Building a sandcastle close to the shore A house of cards from a worn-out deck A home from the fellowship, poise and calm Write a lyric for the song only you can understand Come, taste the wine Raise the blind They will guide you from the light Writing noughts till the end of time Come, surf the clouds Race the dark It feeds from the runs undone Meet me where the cliff greets the sea Riding hard every shooting star Come to life, open mind, have a laugh at the orthodox Come, drink deep let the dam of mind seep Travel with great élan, dance a jig at the funeral, come! Taste the wine Raise the blind They will guide you from the light Writing noughts till the end of time Ooh, come, surf the clouds Race the dark It feeds from the runs undone Meet me where the cliff greets the sea, come!

Current mood: the bewildered old guy on a push trolley watching Metal Santa playing bass on a burning bridge. Fun fact: there weren't any special effects involved, Marco just started playing and the bridge did that.

Look at the end when Empuu teh guitar player puts his 3000 dollar ESP around the shoulders of one of teh extras. I bet they worked all day. Maybe more than that to get some of these shots visually its a lot of detail in their music videos thats really cool. It's not super expensive production but its really high quality still.

Nightwish music never frustrates me. Not every songs have to be heavier as hell. Elan is a single. The begining, the intro to the album. And it is still very very very beautiful. I've been expecting their work, their collaboration for so so long. When Floor is still in After Forever, already imagined what if they work together. Her strong powerful voice will make all this perfect and intensify the emotion. ERrrrrrr the album pls come quicker!!

Considering how often the vocalists for this band change, I've begun to look at this band in terms of being a more musical instrument-based band. Each new vocalist is just another instrument making another sound. The band has some great songs for each vocalist. First album I heard by Nightwish was Wishmaster, so Tarja's vocals are more nostalgic. Just love the whole soprano vibe with a decent range that it adds to the rest of the band. Marco is a great addition to the band, both in terms of his bass playing and his vocal work. There's only two albums with both Tarja and Marco, and I would have to say that "Once" is probably my favourite album by Nightwish. The Islander is a great song from the Anette era, but other than that I rarely listen to her vocal contributions to the band. This new vocalist is a great combination with the rest of the band, IMO.

Jesse Lapham I agree otherwise, but don't think twice in 19 years is "often". :) And Floor is the most versatile and interesting "instrument" they've ever had... There are a lot of very good compositions in Anette's era too, e.g. The Poet And The Pendulum, for me it's one of the very best among Tuomas' creations. I'd really love to hear it live in Tampre at the end of this month.

***** Each to their own, of course. I might have to go back and listen to some of those songs again. I'm thinking about seeing them live at the start of next year, here in Australia.

Jesse Lapham Their concerts are really worth experiencing as they always play wonderfully well. I enjoyed it even with Anette. :D The jazzy song Slow, Love, Slow was a nice surprise to me, though a lot of fans didn't "understand" its charm... Anette's voice suited it well. Scaretale is one of my favourites from that era, one of the few songs that really suited her. A funny "horror story" with many different elements.

Many give their interpretations of the song, so I think I will share my small analysis too. I think this song is a call to do and create if you want and push forward no matter what. Élan - the word came from French and means a combination of style, enthusiasm and energetic confidence. Verse 1 "Leave the sleep and let the springtime talk" - It's time to wake up and listen to the "spring". It can be a literal call to look into the nature but metaphorically spring can mean a start of something that will bloom later. "In tongues from the time before man" - The nature has its own unique tongue that cannot be characterized by human standards. "Listen to a daffodil tell her tale" - Throughout the song there are lot of references to the nature, which can be treated metaphorically or literally in a way of finding inspiration in the nature. "Let the guest in, walk out, be the first to greet the morn" - Welcome other ideas, remember to search for your own answers and find something that was not discovered before you. (Or just enjoy your time with other people and appreciate the nature in search of the inspiration). "The meadows of heaven await harvest The cliffs unjumped, cold waters untouched The elsewhere creatures yet unseen" - all three lines basically tell that there is a lot left to explore, create and try. "Finally your number came up, freefall awaits the brave" - it's your time now, will you make an attempt to step into the light or continue leaving in a fear of fail without even trying? Chorus "Come, taste the wine Come, surf the clouds" - Do it, get caught by the inspiration and enjoyment of creating. "Race the blind They will guide you from the light Writing noughts till the end of time" - leave the blind people that drag you into the routine and monotonous work, telling you that you won't succeed. They just waste your time and guide you into the "darkness", creating nothing themselves. "Race the dark It feeds from the runs undone" - The "darkness" grows from the things that you didn't even try. "Meet me where the cliff greets the sea" - Land and sea are different environments and that line can mean a meeting of two creators in different fields. Verse 2 "The answer to the riddle before your eyes" - during the process of creation many people face the problems that they find hard to solve. "Is in dead leaves and fleeting skies Returning swans and sedulous mice Writings on the gardens book, in the minute of a lover's look" - These lines can be interpreted both as trying to find inspiration to solve the riddle in different sources and as finding the solution in simple things (the greatest ideas are the simplest). "Building a sandcastle close to the shore A house of cards from a worn-out deck A home from the fellowship, poise and calm Write a lyric for the song only you can understand" - while creating something for others, find time for something you personally appreciate\while creating something from already existing concepts, don't forget to develop your own ideas. Verse 3 "Riding hard every shooting star" - get the maximum of every opportunity you take. "Come to life, open mind, have a laugh at the orthodox" - start to live, open your mind, don't take seriously the conservators who don't want to develop further. "Come, drink deep, let the dam of mind seep" - do it, dive deep into the process, break the borders of your mind. "Travel with great élan, dance a jig at the funeral, come!" - be enthusiastic about every opportunity, break the groundless stereotypes created by humanity, do it! "Come!" - Just do it!

to me it's simpler: life is bullshit. you're tired of this bullshit. unrewarding jobs, cleaning up other people's shit, endless labor keeping the system running, they don't even know how hard you're working. not even a thank you. ...so tired. So come. Just leave it all behind. Dance at your own funeral. here in the afterlife, have a great time. it's my nightwish.
